I know it’s madness but have just bought a second hand iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen so I can laze on the couch and easily use headphones and use this app. It will be interesting to compare performance of it to my iPad M1 when it arrives.

I have an irig midi keyboard (3 octave full size keys) with a lightning cable adapter so I can jam on the kitchen table with headphones on and not a single dongle in sight.

Yes. I missed having an iPad with a dedicated headphone output that much.

My iPad mini gen 5 has a shattered front screen, but that dedicated headphone jack is still great to have. Apple Pencil + Mouse & keyboard means no shards of glass in my finger, and a tactile home button is nice. So sad the screen is chipping off and I’m afraid to move the thing - kind of defeats the purpose of such a portable device.

What about adding a paperlike substrate ?

That definitely helps unless the very edge of the screen is shattered. I tried similar approach to frozen the damage on my old iphone screen

  • Thanks @wim & @cokomairena.

    Have you updated your app?
Muting or pulling down the fader both stop the trigger. The only thing I can think Ive changed was the name of the track and an update.
Ive tried swapping the effect for another and going back and then changing the trigger source.
Thanks for the info to contact Jim!

I actually thinking about doing the same .
I like GR2 so much that to use it on a 13inches screen will be the perfect experience for me . I actually use it on my Ipad 9th ( 10,2" screen ) and it's great but i want more for eyes confort and bigger UI .

Anyway for me this is it ... GR2 is all i wanted . Simple but deep , The amazing Song mode and Piano roll editor that reminded me why i loved NS2 so much , the excellent sampler with a vey good timestretch algorithm and some very smart sound design capabilities , the synth with the addition of the Soundfonts and wavetables workable in layers , the Arpegiator , The smart AUV3 integration , the top sound quality and effects, all is there !
I read that the experience is Teenage Enginering in an app and i agree !

The only thing i don't like so much is the step sequencer that i find too basic , i wish Jim will enhance it a bit to be more like the one in Pure Acid to allow simple tasks like easy changes of note velocity and ratchetting for exemple .
For now i use mostly Patterning 3 ( this one is the most Elektron feeling you can have on Ipad ) to make drums so for me it's not a concern anymore but it will be good to see some upgrade in the future .

Edit : And also ! I would like to see an option to generate some random midi notes in the Piano Roll like In BAM and Pure Acid for exemple . It's sometimes great to generate a happy accident and more so if this can follow the scale mode .

I’m having a blast using my IPad Pro 13 1st gen on GR2.. IPad Air 13 may be my next buy…

You have great FR for this beauty.. yes, a PA type generator in the PR (along with midi import) will be classic..

Not talking sass about the app

Oh no worries friend!!! Even if you were this is the place to be critical of the apps !! I want you to feel free to express yourself about how you honestly feel, good or bad reviews included

Im sorry I misunderstood your interest and experimenting as enthusiasm ; it wasn’t my intention to put words in your mouth

It’s just for me, I have trouble with DAW (whcih is why I usually work with my Op-1f and ko2) so this is the first app I’ve had that I’m actually making music with , and it’s not so bad i like to think

But by all means express whatever you feel : if you wanna dog it dog it. In fact the manual should say it’s a groovebox not a DAW, so HA! I threw sass now lmao jk

But i am curious to know how you feel and how you’ll end up getting on with it , or if you find it useful or not useful to you?

Are you a Cubasis 3 user?

  • Thanks for checking @cokomairena, Im also on 1.0.7 hrmmm. Even prior saves to any changes Ive made do not remedy this issue.
With this issue Gr-16 2 will not print stems with sidechain effect without the trigger being audible. One must un-mute any track selected as a source for the sidechain trigger in my install of GR-16 2 for the sidechain to work.

  • Ok folks, the sidechain is remedied.
For clarity the ‘STOP MUTED PARTS’ option in the Settings menu affects this issue, if the muted track ‘stops’ it doesnt send a trig 💀. Im a goof.

My initial thought was this option is to save processing power, but happy to learn that it also affects muted side-chains! Learn from my derp, much love and thanks all 😁

Ahh. That makes sense. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't reproduce that issue.
Thanks for taking the time to clear up the mystery.

I can’t get the midi learn to work on my Arturia controller

The pad won’t change to the acid drums pad and it won’t respond to my drum pad

Yes : it’s just the pads that aren’t responding
I can key in the drums on the keyboard but I kind of prefer using my drum pads for the velocity and finger drumming

Should I try another way to test pads or something else ??

Arturia keyboards have pads set to difrent midi channel than the keyboard. That might make it not work. You will need a pc to change the pad midi channel.

Ohhhhh thanks dude wow ok makes sense

EDIT - upon taking that rumple note , I put midi channel to ANY and guess what??? Pads are working

    So anyone with this issue

FIX for pads - set midi channel to ANY

  • Btw

When in song mode , can you loop/cycle record ?

Iow , when I try to do that it just overwrites

Is there a setting to combine and overdub rather than just overwrite each pass thru

Oh no, it's all good @yellow_eyez ! I'm enthusiastic and will continue to experiment but I think at the end of the day, the more trad DAW approach with access to all the wonderful midi and fx plugins is how I work best. I perhaps wrongly feel that if I'm using the timeline as the main compositional approach in GR2 then I don't see any great advantage (and a number of disadvantages) over using Cubasis (again for my own use cases).

Yeh I am using Cubasis 3 on iPad and Logic on desktop. To be honest, if Logic for iPad wasn't subscription that would probably be my main iPad compositional tool however Cubasis is great and very fluid for my own use.

I do sincerely love, however, how much people are getting from GR2. Too cool!

    That sums it up nicely.

  • Is there a way to import midi files?

    No.

You can import a midi file to a plugin like Midi Tape Recorder, Helium, or Atom 2 running in GR2, then use GR2’s print midi function. That’s pretty quick to do, really.

    That doesn’t sound too painful.

Now if someone also has a clever workaround for MIDI Out, I’m in! ;)

Sounds reasonable. I’m looking at Helium, and it looks like 4Pockets has a MIDI toolkit with Helium included. Anyone able to speak to if the bundle is worth it for the other two?

Does anyone know where the user patterns are store?
I got a new iPad and want to copy things over.

    EDIT. Figured it out.

You can load Loopy Pro into an AUv3 layer. Then add a MIDI track to Loopy and choose “Midi In”. You can now sent the output of that track to other apps or hardware. It might work with other plugins that provide their own MIDI output as well. Sadly this has to be done for every GR2 part.
Important: It has to be an AUv3 layer, MIDI FX layer doesn’t work.

  • Could someone please confirm if they are able to sync Harmony Bloom in GR2. I can do it in Loopy Pro but can't figure out how in GR2. Maybe I'm missing an option...

    Works perfectly here!

It’s the same button in HB. Just make sure you load HB in a Layer before the Layer you want HB to play.
