I discovered that using SampleCrate or Files to copy sample folders into Files/Grooverider 2/Samples is easier than using the built in method.
Had one crash so far. But I totally love it. It’s a great groovebox. I hooked up the LaunchKey Mini MK4 and it works awesome.
I wish you could map play, rec, etc. as well.
GR 2 definitely matched or exceeded my expectations..and best of all, it’s probably the most CPU efficient grooveboxes I’ve tried with its level of feature density. Demo songs with 11+ tracks didn’t even seem to top 5% on my new M4 iPad Pro.
There’s plenty of room for improvement though, but it’s an incredible start. Hopefully he’ll enable automation of the rectangle performance MFX (Mod Delay, DJ Filter, Filter Slicer, etc) or the X-Y controls on the master FX. It’d also be nice to resample in the background while you’re performing, but it seems to lock you to the sampler screen when recording.
It would be great to have an easy way to copy clips to song mode
Edit. Select clip, long press, add to song.
Some oscillator types have two "edit" parameters. A wavetable, for example, has wave position and "warp". These qualify as targets for modulation by envelope or lfo. But I can;t figure out how to direct either of those to the "E2" destination. They only target E1.
Anyone noticed the pan on the built in synth is the wrong way around.
Consistent crash:

I open new project
Change part 1 from Melodic to Drum Rack
Hit oscillator edit
Load sample and hit one of these highlighted menu entries - instant crash
Is there another way to get my drum samples into this? Or surely it comes with some already?
It doesn’t crash when I try that
Thanks @cyberheater i will report it then
i love how quickly the UI enables a basic psy squelch
@dendy
Good bye Cubasis, Zenbeats, Gadget. I salute you.
Going to the gym then teaching this morning, but when I get back…
If you’re wondering how to do scale locked keys or how to turn off velocity for the onscreen keyboard:
Tap the tiny arrow at the very left side of the keyboard, then tap the 3 lines on top right of the pitch/modulation wheel for a hidden menu.
Pan goes to the correct speakers on my m4 iPad Pro.
If we ever get an AUV3 version of iWavestation, I’ll be all out of reasons to use Gadget. GR2’s effects are better. internal resampling!! better clip mode! I think the only thing I’ll miss is Ableton project export, which may eventually come to GR2, given the developer seems to be an Ableton guy.
Edit: sorry - found the answer!
It's fantastic!
iPad 9th gen.: Very modest CPU usage (running the factory patterns) and excellent UI experience. Great app and not regretting the purchase. I only would love to have a text search for AUv3 plugins to avoid scrolling the list.
genius
How can I add my own drumkits ? Answered - just long press there
Jim responded to my report - this is known to occur on low versions of ios 16.
Anyone on ios 16 should expect to upgrade if they want to use GR2
Sounds about right. I’m on 18.3.
Brilliant cheers @Samu works a treat saved your video for future reference!
Using it now on an iPad Mini 6, works great, even fills the screen. Had no issues so far with adding my samples folder via the UI though it’s a bit counterintuitive having to press the import bit twice. Would also prefer drag and drop as there’s no sample preview. Also surprised to see no reverb in the IFX. I tend to use a big reverb and a delay as my main FX and shorter ones on the channels but can’t do that here. Ultimately I hope you will be able to add AUv3 FX there though. Oh and ‘insert before’ would be useful to add midi FX.
As long as I have my GR16 head on, though and don’t expect it to be Logic or a full on DAW, it’s great.
Long press Part! Had to look for it lol
Even time I see the start up screen I think I have a dusty iPad screen !
Mmmh, auto-save would have been nice…
Or an AUM style “Last Save State” option
I noticed an odd behavior - maybe I'm doing something wrong:
Here's the process I followed:
Also, the editing modes are a bit unclear to me. There seems to be a way to place the clips page in Edit mode - the Edit button remains lighted even though tapping different clips, and it's not clear how to exit this Edit mode. And while editing a clip, it will show the Part #/Cell # in the upper left, but I'm not seeing a visual marker indicating which clip is being edited after I go back to the clips page - there are play markers, but they may appear on multiple clips and there's nothing marking out the clip being edited from the others.
Overall, I'm very happy with the app - the visuals are stunning and it feels very responsive and quick, and fun to work with.
Update via Jim:
„ Just found out how to fix it for iOS 16, so if you don't want to update you'll have to wait for GR-2 update with a fix
Thanks for the bug report!“
Wow, hats of Jim. I pre-ordered this purely to support him (as Pure Acid is still probably my all time favorite app) but I am extremely impressed with version 1.0. The Parallax demo song is awesome (I’m a house lover). I’m loving it.
My only wish is to AUv3 on the insert effects, mostly because I like to put Saturn on everything individually haha
