I’ve wanted to get into making IM style music. Anyone have thoughts on where to start and what direction to go? I know that’s broad, but I’ve had that goal for a long time. Kinda what got me into this whole iPad production rabbit hole/money trap.

I can't tell you how much I wish I could answer that. 😂

The best I ever get to is trying to take just one aspect, such as the kick, or the parts of the structure I can follow, and make things starting from there. I don't ever get close, but I sometimes get something else that I like well enough.

Trying to pull together something so complex on an iPad would be a huge challenge. Not because the iPad isn't capable of it, but because the format is too small to work with such complicated arrangements with so many parts without a lot of creativity busting pain. Making the bits and pieces on the iPad, then taking them to a proper DAW to arrange seems like the way to go to me. I never seem to get that far though.

  • Nice update to step editor, will have to try later.

  • Can you automate auv3 parameters? I cant seem to see where

  • Ok..no midi import for this update… sad..

Create a clip, hit record, then play. Move a knob. The parameter will show up in the list of automations for the clip. The automation can then be edited.

  • Might be time to dig out the Launchpad Pro MK3!!

oh sorry, I meant auv3 effects. since they can only be loaded in a send slot, i wonder if it’s possible to automate

It seems you need to be in Song Mode to do that. But then it works the same way - by moving the knobs while recording. There are lanes for FXA Return, FXB Return, and MASTER in the song timeline.

  • oh cool thanks

  • Sweet. 😎
Now when you add a step in the step sequencer it’s automatically selected in the note editor. That’s a big time saver. Tapping notes in the keyboard at the left in the note editor selects that note in the step sequencer. That’s nice too, and sensible, though I also like to scroll with the first pad.

  • LPX support would be great.

Has anyone tried the Launchpad Pro MK3 support? Launchpad Pro doesn’t start in session mode when hooked up to the iPad, even though it shows up under MIDI IN devices in GR 2’s midi settings.

Edit: I just needed to update GR 2.

Maybe you should open a new thread for that as it seem to be a very specific use case that will be lost inside all other features?

I mean a thread about all info of the launchpad integration not your specific problem

Its been bugging me that Scaler won't print to MIDI properly on my M1 iPad Pro - as mentioned earlier a known issue with Scaler on some iPads. Its seems that Scaler expects 44.1Khz audio for MIDI timing or something and GR2 defaults to 48khz.

I found a workaround using AUM:

Load GR2 in AUM as an Inter App Audio app

Load Scaler 2 in AUM in a MIDI channel strip

Enable MIDI clock out to GR2 in AUM in tempo settings *** important

Route Scaler MIDI out to AUM Source in the AUM routing matrix

In GR2 MIDI settings verify that AUM is the MIDI input device

In GR2 Audio settings, enable background audio and make sure IAA Host Sync is Allowed

Set up your chord sequence, performance or whatever in Scaler

Set Scaler's MIDI channel so it matches the part you want to record in GR2

Set up the part in GR2 and make sure the clip bar length matches the Scaler sequence bar length

Create a new clip in GR2, or enable Song Mode to record to the timeline

Hit the stop button in GR2 to reset the song pointer, hit record button, then hit play

AUM will start Scaler and GR2 will record Scaler MIDI into the clip/timeline that matches Scaler's MIDI output channel

Hit GR2 stop button when the Scaler sequence is complete

Not tested extensively but so far working pretty well for me. Once you get it set up it’s very fast to record Scaler MIDI. Just remember that GR2 will always record into the part that matches Scaler's MIDI output channel.

If you need to change bar lengths delete the clip and create a new one with the correct length set in the pattern menu - GR2 seems to screw up recording external midi if you change bar lengths in the editor.

Did a similar thing with Loopy Pro and GR2. Works good except, misses the first chord in recording. You can hear the first chord being played, you can see the pads light up, but it does not record the first chord. You can se recorded notes starting on the second chord. Played with midi clock Offsets in LP Syncronization setting, but no help.

  • The mk3 integration is very cool and works well for me

Happy to create one but I don’t think it’s really needed. The problem was me 🙂. I was just missing the latest update. Otherwise it’s working as expected. No issues.

    Launchpad X

  • The Launchpad Pro MK3 integration does indeed appear to be very comprehensive. Having some troubles working out how to navigate it all. eg: Switching to different modes. I can edit velocity & probability but can't seem to add/remove notes.

But early days, only had a quick play around with it. If I can get the hang of it I think it could be a great integration. Seems like there are some really cool features.

I'd love to see some kind of midi control of a selected parameter. Instead of midi learning everything... if you touch any UI element the assigned midi control automatically controls that UI element. Even better if it can work with relative encoders or if it can do two way feedback so that the relative encoder is updated on touch.

  • Can we record automation for third party Auv3s, I though we could but was trying with Sunrizer last night and nothing happening..

I just tried with Sunriser Filter cutoff, and recording automation worked fine.

Just realized the Ableton Link of GR2 only sync tempo without start/stop. I don’t get it. Why missing this out?

Sorry just want to confirm if that my side issue or GR2 Ableton Link issue.

All other Ableton link enabled apps on the same device and the same local network all can sync tempo and start/stop. Except GR2 and I noticed GR2’s Link doesn’t have the start/stop option.

Anyone can confirm this is the missing start/stop Ableton Link sync is simplify not implemented yet rather than a bug?

  • It is a feature, not a bug, me thinks.
