He thinks the other country pays the tariff but the buyer (here in the US) must pay the tariff.

Surely when the price of everything goes up the voters will turn on him?

During the election he promised voters lower prices but he might just give them a recession instead.

Mid-term elections (in about 20 months time) should be interesting.

There is an empowered reckless about Trump this time. And the powers that could put him in check have been co-opted.

He will need to be restrained if not outright blocked by elections. Mid-terms and beyond since like any good dictator he will never give up power willingly.

The resistance will grow and start to organize around leaders that step forward with compelling framing for these overreaches.

I was looking forward to solid action to control our deficits but only using tools that maintain order, stability and a return to the rule of law.

I wouldn’t say all has been co-opted just yet, are tariffs a form of taxation, if so that power lays with the Congress, so they may yet have the final decision if the Supreme Court passes the authority to them.

    Isn’t this outcome still possible?

When his term is up, in 4 years time, he will be a physical and mental wreck.

Presumably there are a lot of ambitious Republicans who want him to move on so they have a chance at the White House.

He doesn’t exercise, has already had at least one stroke, and eats shit. He will be wormfood in 4 years time.

That’sTrump’s vision… ocean front property for Trump Hotels and Golf Courses. Lot’s of service jobs for Palestinian people.
Trump is a job creator and supreme grifter. He proposed a similar scheme to Kim Jong Un…he was not amused. Netanyahu on the other hand is going to use Trump as a shield against his land grab.

It could take generations to rebuild Gaza unless there is a global community that commits to the effort like the Post-WW2 rebuilding of Germany. That effort may payoff as the EU needs to decide on how to deal with Putin.

Yes it would take generations to build trust at least, buildings and infrastructure a little less with effort, but nothing except misery will continue unless the mirage of a settlement isn’t actually enacted.

Before the world and a large and growing number of people in western society this reveals the west as an hypocritical monster, sadly.

Of course, the west is a hypocritical monster… ever since the Colonization of the Americas.
There’s a movie “How the West Was Won” which is just about the gene code of Native Americans.

The true irony of the “west” is that the immigrants risking all to just work in america have a “Native” lineage to
the America’s which include South America and Canada. Everyone that thinks they are “Real Americans” came on

Have you read Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States”. Brutal details on the techniques of conquest just to get to the original 13 colonies.

Then “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” to complete the history of ethnic cleansing of the original inhabitants.

I’d imagine there are similar atrocities for Canada, Mexico, etc.

The Palestinians have a lot of examples of how hard it is to get your land back after the new inhabitants gain a foothold.
Of course, England played a big part in re-assigning the deed to Palistine to Jewish Immigrants fleeing the genocide of
the Nazi’s. (I hope you accept that fact).

I think he's just making it up more or less "day to day" and reacting to what happens after he announces something and it goes wrong.

What company would invest in setting up a factory in the USA with Trump changing his mind every second day...? Business loves stabilty and hates uncertainty.

what he and Axis fElon have in common is that they suffer from the dunning-Kruger effect.

It’s called bullying and flip-flopping is something they do when they meet their match, unfortunately the USA has a sizeable number of military bases around China (and the world for that matter) toys that have to be used, got to keep the MIC happy, it’s one thing the USA still makes, machines for murder.
