    That wasn’t me 🙂

it was me. so which app (most you said) supports midi import?

Not sure if you’re serious here. Most apps that support a piano roll of some kind support load of midi files.

    xequence 2
    Nano studio 2
    Atom 2
    Fl studio
    Cubasis
    Loopy pro
    Groove rider 2
    Korg Gadget 2&3

I’m sure there are many others

these are more or less all daw's

Helium is the one I use when importing midi

The price is still a big issue for me. But, there more I dig in, the more I enjoy. I'm finding it a bit like a puzzle. Every time I tinker, or look at something a different way, I get a peek at something new. I doubt I would ever use this in a musical context but as a fun way to play with sound and simultaneously ward off dementia, it's pretty cool indeed. Still very much a mystery though. I hope they do sales.

"a fun way to play with sound and simultaneously ward off dementia" - this NEEDS to be added to the appstore description haha > @EnvelopeFollower said:

I usually use Atom2 for that

Can add Midi Tape Recorder to that list, too, mpe compatible (but no editing)

hi, i can’t for the life of me figure out where the transpose buttons that were once on the right hand side are. does anyone know where they went or how to unhide them? i used to create whole songs just playing those buttons. thanks!

Are you talking about the global transpose slider in Fugue Machine Classic?

It’s not there any more. Instead, we now have much more detailed control over that through the Point Grid and automation. (Of course you can still use your finger if that’s what you want to do)

To do global transpositions, first tap on the globe icon, lower left corner, then automate or manually manipulate these settings on the right. (Circled) Again, these are the “global” controls.

ahh thanks! found it inside there!

My favorite MIDI file importer is Imaginando LK. It can swallow quite large MIDI tracks, has very good editing and some generative functions too, you can even mutate an existing melody to add variations, reverse and mirror notes etc.
Its clip grid lets you play with different melodies easily.
This and ChordPolyPad are probably my favorite composition tools.

  • Thank you for suggesting LK, as I bought it on sale a couple of years ago and I’ve while I’ve dipped into it now and then, I always exited still not really knowing what it did. Sounds cool. IAP recommendations?

Hey Trash Cans (is that correct?), I had LK as a favourite for a long time but then it started to grey out (screen take over) in AUM and no one could figure what it was (is?) so I had to try others and Helium have saved me as it's the only one that can do all that LK can (I can't stand Atom2).
Anyway I have the IAPs but never used them so I think it's safe to say: if you have the midi import and clip tracks going, you don't need anything else. LK's automation edit* drives me completely nuts, they have improved it several times but it's still a nightmare in my opinion. Best of luck.

  • Sorry for not scrolling through the whole topic. Is it midi in/ out ready?
On mac I would like to trigger playheads. Play/stop them by using physical pads. Nothing to fancy?
    Kind regards

  • With all the intricate programming each playhead can have, there really needs to be a way to save playhead presets, or just a way to copy and paste settings from one playhead to another.

I was thinking the same thing, that would speed things up considerably.

A copy/paste for not just the PlayHeads, but a copy/paste of all of the automations and settings in the Point Grid would be a huge help.

  • Sounds like some good suggestions. I really starting to have some fun with it in just stand alone and fooling about.

What's been said before about dark UI has another vote here - it's nearly unreadable and I have bad eyes but am near sighted so small text is usually not an issue but a small dark grey font on a darker grey backplate, that's just nasty.

It's beatiful, but it's awful design from a usability / readability perspective, sadly, imo

Yeah agreed (on the Reason part). They really nailed that one.

  • Has there been any interaction from the developer since this was released?

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • The dark text could surely be fixed by a user setting the text contrast in the app… some display optimisation for accessibility for instance… maybe 🤞

    On their YouTube channel

    Good to know 👍

  • Changing the rate is so frustratingly fiddly. Very hard to dial it in accurately. The alternative, i.e using the “esc” function to bring up a window so that the rate can be changed using arrows just doesn’t seem to work…

  • edited June 2025

@Kashi try this; tap on the word “rate”, then the menu button (circled in screenshot below) on the left to bring up the “parameter keyboard”. Here you can tap/select any of the rates you want, instead of trying to drag up/down to choose your rate.

Btw, this works with pretty much everything in FMR.

  • Oh and FWIW, I haven’t figured out what those up/down arrows do either.

  • Great, thanks @Edward_Alexander , will try that :)

  • edited June 2025

Using FMR in AUM with 8 Iconica Sketch channels DSP is maxing out on my iPad Mini 7, as AUM only uses one core. Which CPUs would make a significant difference to single core performance, M1, M2, M3 or M4?

  • edited June 2025

    I found the answer, M2 adds 4%, M3 adds 20% and M4 50% to single core benchmark.

  • Thanks to a good friend, I was able to purchase FMR. 😳 I'm going to see what videos on Youtube exist of this (perhaps Jakob Haq has one out already). I'm going to watch a handful of videos on Youtube about this plugin (including Doug's, of course!) and try to grok how to use it. If I can't figure it out, I'll just muck about with it until I get something decent sounding to use as a basis for Ambient.

    (I'm also working on a 10-track album.)

Excited to hear what you come up with. Both the app and the album. Maybe BOTH?!?
