So I can now load Koala as an AU inside koala with koala in an fx slot that hosts koala goto 10?

Lol I actually wanted to do that just as a joke for the forum but apparently Marek wisely avoided a few headaches by not making Koala available in the AUv3 lists

I’m not sure why Koala wouldn’t be available as an AU. You can’t host inside an AU anyway so what @MonkeyDrummer is talking about isn’t possible.

@elf_audio I have a request that can be added to bazillion of requests you already have 🤪 It would be cool to be able to automatically time the beginning of a resampling with the beginning of a bar! Something like, when a new pad is clicked on during a bar, it waits for the next one to record. This would ease the recording of sequencer based AUv3s. Especially sequences that don't start with a sound.

+1 Ideally both start and stop of sampling could be synced to either beat or bar when transport is running.
And doing multi-pattern resampling could be fun too :sunglasses:

  • @oscillotus You can resample a pattern from the menu. There’s an option in there somewhere.

yep. That's how I do it. Just set the length of the pattern and pick the Resample Loop from the menu.

Yes, would be nice. When resampling a loop with reverb or delay applied to the sounds its better to capture the second pass to make sure the effect trails are added to the start of the loop.

  • Other nice to have things in Koala would be 'snap grid' in the sample editor that reflected the current tempo.
Personally I still accidentally change the start and end sample when zooming in and panning around :sunglasses:

Will check that out! Thanks @mistercharlie @wim 😎

If you’re in touch with him, maybe a search bar for these special auv3s that are sorted by developer, could be added.
This is a special update. Thanks for testing,

That is badly needed. I feel like a heel saying anything negative about such an amazing free gift update, but oy, slogging through by developer is really not fun. It's worse than having them all in a huge long list even.

Agree on this one. I am going via the app store to find the name of the developers (UVI for Beathawk for example)....but while Radio Unit is listed as BeepStreet on the store, it doesn't appear in the list....would be very handy for most of us (who have altogether too many apps :)....

I did find Radio Unit (in case anyone else is looking!) under 'BPST'.

@mistercharlie @wim When I try resample loop, it leaves a small silence part in the beginning of the new sample. Is this expected? The function is cool, I'll need to try some more later when I have a bit more time! Not exactly what I was looking for, but there are instances where this will come in very handy!

Are You using any plug-ins that might add some latency anywhere in the signal chain?

Oh this might be it. I have Grand Finale on the master channel. Will try later to remove it and see! Thanks for pointing that out!

Tried to track down as many bugs as I possibly could during the beta, sorry if there's some left...
...I know that it doesn't yet have a built-in preset browser for those AUv3 plug-ins that don't have one built-in.

I don't think it's a negative thing to say. Just a feature request, and I think a lot of people would like it. A search bar, and maybe even the option to just see the apps in an alphabetical list.

Anyway, I'll add my voice to the chorus: This is an awesome development! Thank you! And just a week or two after the release of Audiopipeline, another very welcome addition to iOS music production!

Is it possible to map a midi controller to AUV3 parameters in Koala?

  • Absolutely incredible. Koala has always been a fun sketchbook, but I never felt I could actually finish a song in it. I think it just eclipsed Drambo, Loopy, and AUM for me as a productive songwriting environment. Loading up Radio Unit WILL cause you to lose 2 hours, be warned 😅

  • I had the mixer extension on Android but not iOS: @elf_audio When buying the extension on the third info screen where you can learn about features before buying, it says No AUv3. I guess this needs to be updated or removed 😅

Ahh, I hadn't really tried it that much, so haven't noticed that. Besides, I usually turn on "Auto trim on record" so things are usually queued up fine for me anyway.

I get audio dropouts when resampling using the "Resample Loop" command, especially when using heavier auv3's (i.e Moog, Waldorf, etc). My iPad is old, but I don't get such dropouts when re-sampling directly via the "Resample:Main" option.

Another thing I have noticed since a few versions back, it takes a long time to open folders with loads of wavs in them (>600). It did not use to be this way in the past, but now it's a problem when loading samples from Koala's own Samples menu, or importing audio from System. Is it just me or are others having a similar issue with load times?

  • Arturia iSEM doesn’t appear to open that’s the only app I found that fails to load.

  • This is a great day for updates. Thank you, Elf Audio. I like creating with Koala so much, this makes it one better.

  • Genuinely amazing update, bought the Expansions I didn't own to show some gratitude.
Is there any plan for MIDI routing a la AUM so we could use Scaler, Octachron etc for sequence building?

Yes this confused the hell out of me but then I realised (hoped) no AUv3 hosting was true when the mixer first came out but it does now with the latest update.

  • Really Great Update.

I found a bug… sometimes auv3 will be in Mixer Not correct. EG an auv3 reverb was in Mixer section a Compressor. Anybody

The work arounds I experimented with last night were using AUM and the new Ableton Link audio plugins (AudioPipeline or LinkEffekt). I was able to record scaler with any AUv3 as audio directly to a koala pad.

Another option that doesn't require anything and works automatically is to use Tonality. It automatically plays chords for any instrument selected in Koala (must be in keyboard mode).

To get around using Ochatron I'm thinking of getting the new TEMPO-1 plugin to see if it can achieve the same thing.

  • Is it normal for Skulptur to appear in the instruments but not the FX?

  • Quantized recording IS here.

I saw mention of gaps in recording - it's been officially stated there's currently no latency compensation inside Koala, so anything you add that adds latency (anything with lookahead or latent instruments or effects added to buses) will result in slightly off recordings (latency gap at the start)... record a smidge longer, and tidy up the start (or use auto crop start if that works for what you're doing)

    Enjoy :)

Hey! Thanks for pointing that out! I had the hold to record switch off, so this didn't work. But with the switch on, it works as described. I am really stoked, thanks again!!

I always forget the swipe-down thing when transport is running :sunglasses:

  • @elf_audio, in line with some others it seems, I feel the AUv3 browsing/selection is a bit more long winded and awkward than it could be.

How about simply having the plugin icons and names simply placed next to developer’s names as I’ve mocked up here for the Audio Damage instruments. This would make things a bit more immediate and longer lists of plugins from a developer than would immediately fit could be accessed by scrolling left/right on the list?

Part of the problem with initially having to go via the name the developer’s have chosen is that this name doesn’t always look familiar (for example, NIRA makes sense as Alexander Zolotov’s handle once you know he uses the NightRadio name for the music he makes but if you don’t know that, NIRA could be a bit confusing). By adopting an approach like I’m suggesting, you’d immediately see some of the plugin icons and names so you’d know what plugins belonged to that developer even if the name didn’t look familiar.

    Just a thought, cheers.

Yes, I just can't help but feel that this is a browsing system designed by someone with a very small number of AUv3s on their system. A search bar is essential really.
