@Sinapsya, no problem together with UR28M in Cubase as an aggregate device.
Yes me too, got it for 3weeks try out, but send it back for NOW....cause of....look back in the thread....
If the iOS iCONFIG app is coming out + people told that they have no more crackling issue....i will give it a second try, for SURE.
All in all this interface is brilliant. There are issues, but the support is friendly and responsive. My midi issues have been already ironed out with a firmware-update. The preamps are way better than with my old IO-dock in my opinion. Routing options are fantastic. I've ordered a second lightning-cable and am using my iphone as a guitar amp and effects. I've routed input 1 and input 2 in different ways, so in most cases, I can simply plug my guitar into another port to get what I want. Very happy camper.:)
it's definitely a keeper for me as well.
I seem to have a stable setup at the moment but I haven't tried many different setups just iPad to computer or two iPads.
I want to get another lightening cable but it seems in the UK they aren't easy to buy, expensive too but I guess these are the only ones which will charge the iPad too....
Does anyone know of places in the UK which stock the cable? I found one but out of stock.
@Carnbot,
this looks like the one that came with the ica4+:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/iconnectivity_iconnect_midi_lightning_ios.htm
Wound up taking a leap of faith and picked one up, thus keeping Guitar Center afloat for another week. It really is a great device -- my external synths Just Work with it with minimal fuss (and Midiflow helps with what fuss there is). Would still like the iOS config app however -- I'd like to be able to route iPad synths out to my Moogerfooger and back in to the iPad, and switching from that to a more sane config means I'll need to route it without a computer.
Thanks, I saw that one too..but £7 for delivery, £37 for a cable. I can get an iConnectmidi2 for £69 including a cable so I was actually wondering whether to get one of those too!
I think it might be cheaper to get one imported from the US but I found these guys http://www.rubadub.co.uk/iconnectivity-inline-lightning-cable so will wait for them to get stock maybe.
Just got prompted for a firmware update. v1.0.7. Looks to have been released on 5/27
• Fixes issue with OS X 10.6.x versions not seeing audio
• Fixes issue with iConfig hang when monitoring mix meters while moving large amount of other MIDI data
• Fixes issue with iCA4 front panel and MIDI Manager hang with large amount of MIDI data.
I also realized I hadn't checked for an iConfig for Windows update in awhile. The latest version has a nice new configuration file save. Make sure you have the latest drivers.
Thanks just updated. I'd been using the last version just before this which also had preset saving. Unfortunately this doesn't fix the preset loading issue I have which crashes iConfig. So basically right now that's not working for me.
I might try a complete reinstall.
Got this last week and am excite. Could someone help me on a basic thing (@MusicInclusive ?) --
I have a MIDI Fighter Twister plugged into the USB Host on the iCA4+ and a Qunexus plugged into my Mac (which is on USB 2 of the iCA4+). I can't figure out how to get MIDI from the Qunexus into the iPad (on USB 1). Audio is going into Live right now. Is this a matter of configuring MIDI i/o properly within Live?
Hm, I'm having trouble getting audio at a decent volume of the outputs without clipping. I'm sending audio from say iMini through output 4, just barely hitting the orange and sending it into my Moogerfooger low-pass filter. That thing has a drive knob that's basically a volume control, and turns orange when you're just barely driving the filter. With my hardware synths that starts around maybe the 11 o'clock position, but out of the iConnect it won't drive the filter even maxed out -- the output is just too quiet. Turning up the gain from the iConnect and it clips pretty audibly.
I can work around it by running the output through something as a preamp -- say, the ESP of the MS-20 but I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong here.
Unrelated, it looks like I'm finally gonna have to hunker down and figure out how MIDI clock works and UGH I don't wanna.
If you are interested, there are few new videos trickling out on the iConnectivity YT channel on various iConfig setups. E.g. using 3 FX simultaneously on an iPad to pre-process mic, guitar and synth via the analog input and then route via MiMix to Live.
Another shows adding a new mix bus for USB1 to be able to mix different levels in the iCA4+ mixer before sending the combined mix result to Live. If you'd like the links, holler and I'll add them to the thread. :-)
There should be more trickling out shortly. (I think another 4 or 5 - and some more to come too after that).
They've elicited some editorial work over at iC before publishing which is why they've not appeared sooner (although they've been queued for a little while).
Enjoy! :-)
@dumbledog - you might find the USB1 mixbus vid I mentioned above useful in particular - among others. You can lower the level coming from a USB source on the iPad in the mixer before it gets to the next level - wherever you are sending it - analog out or a Mac/PC DAW or whatever. Do be aware that iMini's signal is very hot anyway - always been an issue with iMini, but it's true of a number of other synth apps on iOS too - e.g. Sunrizer, Animoog - depending on the patch. But iMini seems to have a lot of patches that are very hot out-of-the-box. There is some (deliberate) signal attentuation when going via the mixer (I can't recall the dB value) but you'll do better adjusting the levels down yourself in the mixer pane in iConfig to suit.
@taroface - I should have a MIDI routing tutorial submitted to iConnectivity very shortly that will likely help. Once that and a couple of other edits are in, I'll try and do some ad-hoc ones on my own YT channel to answer specific questions if I'm able - as time permits. Meantime, you can glean a lot of information about how to do MIDI routing from the iConnectMIDI4+ tutorials. The MIDI routing is very similar (although not identical) between the iCA4+ and the iCM4+. The main difference is that the default MIDI routing in iConfig for the iCA4+ is set up to facilitate the iPad+DAW (or, at least, two computing devices) to / from MIDI input devices in a nice default manner.
It's just as flexible on the iCM4+, but the routing there wasn't as focused on getting the MIDI to/from those devices in quite the same way.
Hope that helps in the interim. :-)
@musicinclusive - Thank you, those are helpful! I haven't had time to screw around with it the last couple days but I'll try to give it a shot tonight or tomorrow.
Thank you, it does! I also got some helpful direction from iConnectivity support. I will probably go for a USB hub after all, so the issue is moot.
What they said:
Sorry guys...but after yesterday I try the new Audiomux 2 and is simply fantastic: I use it with Turnado + Wow2 + Borderlands on the same iPad without any problem, and I have an iPad 4 :-)
Since the last firmware update I've had no issues with the mixer page locking up. I can just leave it running all day which is great.
Additionally, even though I've posted how to host an iCM4+ on the USB host jack of the iCA4+, enabling insane MIDI routing possibilities, I've recently just committed to using just the iCA4+ with a powered USB hub and multiple iConnect Mio MIDI Din-to-USB adapters for my Din connected devices. It works wonderfully. So I'm going to sell my iCM4+ for someone else to enjoy.
Eager to see an update to iConfig for iOS.
@Siapsya So true. Also to mention, MusicIO. Main problems with ICM4+ and AB. No go with AB and ICM4+ meanwhile when using 48khz/24bit. Cubasis complains about the 48/24 settings when using IAA, but nevertheless works. What I don´t understand is why the audio device has only 32bit floating when 48khz is chosen.
But best working solution is in my eyes MusicIO. Audio and Midi in one app. No problem with routing all through Audiobus and Cubasis to Cubase. And this with 48khz/24 bit.
But that does not mean I will sell my ICM4+. It offers a lot more routing abilities and you can connect much more audio and midi stuff. But than I have to stay with 44khz or when using 48khz passing on Audiobus.
P.S.
Have to crawl back with MusicIO 48/24 through AB and Cubasis. Not working with this settings.
Hello,
Discovering this great post...
I wonder if Audiomux 2 or MusicIO can connect 2 Ipads ? How could that be setuped in that case ?
Anyway, the ICM4+ seems also a great soundcard, and brings all the needed, so I may think that this hardware + other app like MusicIO might be usefull at the same time...
And what about midibridge, that I actually use, regarding the very advanced routing tricks that I need...(shut CC on some midi connexions, change the midi channels, and so on...)
EDIT : just saw the midi interface of ICM4+, wow, I guess I don't need midibrige anymore...
I still use Midiflow/midibridge with mine, if only for the master clock and to make sure I know what's being routed where. It may become less relevant when the iOS Config app is updated.
You won't need Audiomux or MusicIO anymore, but MiMix is vital for routing the various sound channels around. And while I haven't tried it you should be able to connect two iOS devices to the USB ports, but you'll need either an extra one of their proprietary lightning (grr!) cables or a camera connection kit (grr!) for the other device.
Hmm yes, I didn't realize how important was the midi app on the ipad !
I use midibridge, I didn't know midiflow...And it seems clearer and more powerfull also !!
I thought the midi setup was saved using a computer for the soundcard, am I right ?
So does the midibridge override the config of the ICM4+ ? It might result some conflict at some point I guess...
I'm defenetly getting the extra cable...I guess if it can be done without it (Audiomux, MusicIO) when the software will be optimized, we may have a better stability or some extra features...?
And honestly, if I could FINALY get stability I'll be so pleased...
I'm absolutely loving mine. It's really changed the way I integrate my iPad into my music. The one thing I'm having issues with is changing the sample rate/bit depth. I have some projects using 24/96 and some using 24/44. When I need to switch audio configurations it resets everything and then I have to re-setup my patchbay which is a bit annoying. I grabbed a screenshot so I don't have to remember the configuration everytime, but I really wish I could have multiple settings in the memory or, when changing the bits/sample rate it didn't completed reset the patchbay. Anyone know a workaround here?
Isn't it possible to save a 24/96 and a24/44 - configuration separately as presets, so you don't need to rebuild your patchbay?
That is what I would think, but as far as I can tell there is no preset saving. Am I missing something mega obvious here?
Save/Load of presets is available in the "File"-menu of iConfig. Perhaps you are still on an older version. The most current iConfig is 4.1.0.
That was it, I was on an older version. The file save option was grayed out. Strange, I never got an update notification. Thanks!
Have to agree here - I'm on the Audiomux 2 beta and the first major improvement for me is that when using the new VST, there is no longer a requirement to set up an aggregate audio device and I'm not having to mess with the audio in/out config in Ableton should I have started it up before starting Auduomux 1.
@Kdub How much for your iConnectMidi4+ (I'm in Europe, Italy)??
@Synapsya If you are looking to record into a desktop DAW I totally recommend geting the iCA4+ you won't regret it.
Audiomux is great for little cost but the differences and advantages in using the iCA4 is like night and day.
It's been a game changer for me. I've been recording 14 channels into a DAW whilst charging the ipad and using keyboards and midi controllers at the same time....
