  • This is quite something.......reminds me of those long night shifts at Goonhilly Earth Station

  • That demo video sounds fantastic, anyone already bought into the sonic madness ? What's your opinion

  • Fuck it. I'm in. I could listen to sounds like the demo vid all day. Mind expansion.Awesome!

  • Yep, bought and played with this but no idea what I am doing. Use open in to bring files in from AudioShare.

Sounds like an awesome place to work!
Just googled it, ...Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall. Must be related to the famous Eclipse/Lizard Festival/Megadog events. Nice !

  • Thank god I'm not working tomorrow...this thing is nuts. There are so many options to interfere with the sound progression.. It's a completely unknown entity and its gonna take a day at least to read and re-read the help files, never mind understanding what everything does.

  • @gsm909 Sounds brilliant, please take copious notes and then distill them into five to seven key statements/technical tiptricks etc :)

If it can be broken down into five or seven key points, then I think that job belongs to the dev, or Doug! It's more likely to take five or seven days to get my head around it!

Been a long time since I was in The Lizard, but I think your Goonhilly ref, looks like a great call. The app looks like the wet dream of the Radiophonic Workshop in a box. ...

I've been checking the forums, google, and the app store religiously for the past three days waiting for this to drop. So happy it's 7.0 friendly!

Kewl stuff! I was the director of WIT (Washington Int'l Teleport) for a couple of years along with working at several others over the past ~30 years.

I was iffy on whether or not I would buy this app since I'm usually not impressed by "glitch" apps, but this video convinced me:

    Sounds useful for ambient stuff!

  • Damn, they say 3rd gen iPad is required - anyone tried this on an iPad 2? I really like this one.

  • I think this app set a record for me: shortest time between hearing about an app and purchasing it. Just saw the demo and boom, bought it. Fortunately I have a holiday starting on Wednesday so I will have some time to play with this.

  • Awesome....that's tonight's gig sorted :)

@monzo : Seems to be working ok here on iPad / ios7.

  • Though must add I've only just fired it up & haven't pushed it at all yet, so cannot vouch for results of stability under pressure tests.

  • @Paul16 are you using an iPad2?

  • @monzo - Yup, sorry inadvertently dropped the '2'. Seems to be running ok as standalone with all three sample slots active. Have AB'd it into AUFX dub & was all ok, it struggled (unsurprisingly) with gliderverb & dedalus with resultant overloaded processor crackles. It's absolutely lovely though & if you like experiMental stuff I'd say its a must have.

The only difference between 2 & 3 is the extra RAM and modified GPU on the iPad 3. CPU wise they're the same. So unless this somehow eats RAM it should work just as well on iPad 2. The iPad 3 requirement could stem from it being AB compliant (I think they made some policy in the early days that AB apps should recommend iPad 3 as minimum)

Edit: (don't quote me on any of the above kthx)

Thanks for the confirmation @Paul16 - yes I love this stuff. Looks I'll be getting this one very soon.

Thanks @ChrisG - I didn't realise they were the same CPU. I was looking at Auria yesterday as a replacement for my broken GarageBand and it stated iPad 3 as a minimum for Audiobus use - maybe I can use that as well after all, as long as I keep things simple.

  • Was looking forward to this app and had just enough juice to snag it, looks fantastic from the short play I've had with it, very excited.

    @TIckletiger

Very beautiful part of the country, have a lot of happy memories from down there and a place called gunwalloe just up the road, love the night sky around there outside of penzance, don't get to see all the stars enough living in a city.

Nice app this - managed to put it through DFX and record into Audioshare. It glitched a bit when I played with it, but the glitches didn't come out in the recording. No glitches when playing it standalone.

I like this, and getting samples in is a piece of cake via 'open in'. You can change pitch, reverse them, glitch them and generally squidge them about. Not completely sure what some of the controls are doing, but I like a bit of mystery in an app. The 'random' option for each channel is good too.

The Goonhilly reference is a good one - this is a great app for generating 1970's Tomorrow's World style spacelab blips and exploring the universe in an old synthsizer. Please note you'll need to wear a white polo-necked jumper when playing with this to get the full effect.

This probably isn't going to be a lot of peoples cup of tea, but it's almost custom made for what I do.

  • @monzo

    squidge them about

    Sold.

  • You guys that own it, do you come with very different sounds from the same sample, or does it all sound kind of "samish"?

  • edited February 2015

I've only been using it for a few hours but it has a good range of sample mangling power. I think though, like a lot of iOS apps, particularly sound 'manglers', it tends to come across as a bit weedy sounding, and on the shrill side of the fence. Maybe a bit if post-EQ would beef it up a bit.

I love it though, it's amazing how the sounds evolve and I can envisage spending many hours with this one, drifting off into the void.

Definitely a 'glad I bought it' purchase.

This description was better than the videos, now I'm going to get it!

Completely agree. The possibilities with this one seem endless. Makes me feel like a kid on Christmas morning.

  • The app has a variety of filters and ways of placing the sound in space so once you learn how to drive it, so I'd anticipate you'll have quite a bit of control over the sound you produce.

  • Lots of possibilities but many of the controls are a mystery to me, and the built in help is not great

I hear my seventeen year old self thinking exactly the same about the opposite sex....but certainly true of Soundscaper so far for me....
