Thanks Carnbot, for the tips, I tried this, I believe this is what I was already doing, BTW in my haste I overwrote the empty scene, now I can only lower the volumes of the assigned samples, but does anyone know how to clear them? Anyway back to the problem I think it's a bug, what I was doing was playing a 16kHz mono sample from a speech synth, this only played about a third of the samples length probably a 16/44.1 ratio just a guess, I converted this in Audioshare, to both stereo and mono at 44.1 and it plays fine. Don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but if anyone uses a sample frequency other than 44.1, check to make sure it plays through. Still enjoying it all the same.

I did this too but i hadn't looked at the manual so assumed i was missing something, need a way to init a patch or select new and a save as dialog.

I had another issue with sample rate; loaded a 48khz sample and didn't play back at all. Does Soundscsaper change the length of the sample when you change the rate?

When I used a 16kHz sample of 3.9 sec it only played and showed 1.4 sec on the left hand side when I set it as the sample to use. 48kHz, I haven't used, but from what you describe it sounds like the same sort of problem, but it least a work around is to use Audioshare to convert to 44.1kHz then that worked.

  • I meant to resample the wav but never got that far cause of the preset issue. Maybe a bug cause i was under the impression it preserved the length when you changed sample rate. I'll try with some more samples.

  • Yes, it really needs a confirmation dialog before overwriting presets, perhaps in the process making the factory examples read only and also a look at what is causing samples to not play at all or only playback in part.

  • I have contacted the dev about scene saving/loading and he responded directly. I don't know if he frequents forums so I'd suggest anyone with input contact him through his website. I uninstalled and reinstalled so I could get the empty scene back and made a few extra copies after I saved over it LOL!

  • Dev is on the iOS Musicians FB page now and then...

  • here's the results of some experimentation, I hope you enjoy it.

  • Encouragingly non-tinny, but why you no say 'Welcome to the bonso room....' ?

  • edited February 2015

"Encouragingly non-tinny" surely a quote for the album sleeve.

TBH slowing down my original sample to 1/4 of its original speed and several stages of (excessive) low pass filtering was enough to ensure that very little treble escaped!

If the Developer is listening : I would like to suggest finer increments of control for the trigger pulse/LFO rates please. (perhaps even via numerical input?) This would make more tempo synchronised results easier to obtain.

  • @bonso
Contact dev via his website. He responds.

    @anickt I will do that :)

@Flo26 You're welcome, cheers for the feedback.

This was an attempt to do something somewhat musical.
I started with a phrase that I made in Changeling sequencer triggering a couple of synths and used this as my main source (OSC1) at 1/4 speed. By roughly synchronising my trigger to the original tempo of the phrase I was able to introduce some rhythmic pulsing that fit pretty well and which I enjoyed.
OSC 2/3 are providing the granular type noises and the occasional resonant weirdness in the background.
Shamefully, I actually clipped the original recording which you can hear occasionally, although the glitchy nature of the piece helps disguise this a bit.

@JohnnyGoodyear You dangerously insane individual. <3

  • @bonso
    PS - nice track!

  • Thank you.

  • Yeah nice track bonso. Didn't pick up the clip till you mentioned it. Just say that glitch was meant to be there! Should be good for some David Lynch and Kubrikesque industrial ambient.

  • @bonso Really nice sounds there! I listened to it a few times. Hope you post more.

Cheers for your kind comments. I'm glad you found it listenable.

I really should fix the clicks somehow. The lack of fade out and subsequent click at the end is really sloppy.
If I make another one, I might firstly learn how to edit video.

scanning the airwaves sound for childhood flashbacks

This sounds like an painfully apt description of my last ten years or so.....

Aren't we all !!?! Perhaps it's a modern equivalent of the 'midlife crisis' & explains the popularity of all that 'hauntalogical' nostalgia ;)

  • soundscaper will be the resident john williams to my personal film oeuvre.

  • Love this app, just did a spaced out soundscape thing with Turnado and think it turned out pretty well but sorry for the clipping! First 3:30 is just Soundscaper switching the address circuits in and out then Turnado. I uploaded it to DropBox but it plays from my browser. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lnce43vb8gyqo6/Turnado.wav?dl=0

I did another thing in this, sounds a bit like the last one but I don't care...

Damn I am going to have to break down and purchase the app eventually! Thanks Monzo! Very nice. It even got me to hook up the headphones for the full effect.

Thank you! It's great fun sitting there letting it do it's thing of an evening, especially after a couple of glasses of wine. There's a bit of editing and layering in the track, but it's about 80% Soundscaper, 10% Dedalus and 10% boozes.

@monzo I have decided this will be my thundering phrase this weekend.

To keep perspective and from swearing in the traditional forms at those around me (12 year old and wife) I have taken to picking a few words that I use repeatedly as my angry epithet of choice. So when She asks me the same thing for the third time (about something I care for not) or the Boy begs snivelingly to be allowed to play Deathscrewer when he knows full well he must not, I will pull myself up to my considerable height, dig deep into these ancient English lungs, and bellow:

    RIDGES OF JUPITER!

before stumping off to my dudgeon dungeon.

What? The tune? Yes, yes. Very good. Didn't care for the whistling five minutes in, too friendly sounding, but the rest of it scared me shitless. Excellent work. May take it to Maine with me this summer, put it on a mix of one and stumble out in the fields after midnight to find The Fear.

  • Thank you for your lovely comments. The original title was quite rude, but I toned it down for my younger fans.

  • Very nice Monzo:-)
    Thanks for sharing

I'm not very good at using it properly, I'm a randomise and see what turns up kinda guy. Worth checking the tutorials though as it is possible to get more control and steer it towards the sounds you're aiming for. Personally though I like to let it do it's own thing, record everything and then pick out the bits I want. I'm looking forward to getting a more powerful iPad at some point and feeding it through some effects.
