Yep, with maybe higher resolution screen and (maybe) an advanced multi tasking everything under 4GB would be screaming for low ram issues. But they need a reason to sell the iPad Pro 2 a year after it
I sincerely hope the iPad Pro has tiered options such as 4gb/8gb ram etc...
Well said.
@monzo
Sure, they got a ton of HP's, and I doubt they are very expensive.
The point is, if Windows was that terrible, the whole workplace would grind to a halt, what with all the technical difficulties. But that isn't happening....
Mac vs. PC is a tedious argument with no winner, but I notice it always seems to be the Mac people who feel the need to make it.
With security, there is historically a very clear answer, beyond any comparison whatsoever.

Well obviously, or no-one would buy them. But my experience as a PC and Mac user over the last 25 years is that overall, Mac's need less TLC and tinkering than Windows computers, and they are a whole lot more secure. At the end of the day it depends what you want to do with them - if it's general office work then Windows is a cheaper, more customisable option, but for creative types Macs usually let you get on with the job with a lot less fuss.
In my experience it's the other way around - I've found Windows/Android users seem to feel the need to strut their superiority over Apple users.
For the record I started on Macs, but switched to PC's around 16 years ago when they upped their game. I'm on a PC now, and we're almost completely Windows based here. I don't have allegiance to any platform, as long as it does the job I don't care, but with all the Windows issues we've had over the last few years we feel it's definitely time for a change, and my Macbook Pro, iPhone and iPad experience just confirms this is the way to go. With the next iMac refresh this PC's days are numbered.
@monzo
Which issues you had? If you mean Vista ,ok.I totally agree !
Well if this thread is any example....
I'm on here defending the iOS platform. I'm not bothered if people use Windows PCs or Macs, after all I'm on one most of the day. I just think all this 'grass is greener' talk needs a bit of balance. Yes iOS has well discussed issues, but so does Windows. At the end of the day it's horses for courses.
Personally speaking I'm not that bothered about the lack of a full DAW on iOS - I find touchscreens pants for editing, give me a mouse any day. For me the iPad provides a creative, fast platform for getting ideas together, with an excellent selection of cheap tools to do so. It's fun, and if I want to record a pro version I'll export everything into Logic.
I get that some want to use it as a live instrument, but for me that's not a requirement.
interesting....

Hoax.
April 1st is the big giveaway.
playing and editing ableton live sets on a touchpad is no small thing, it's at a minimum equal to the importance of the entire iOS music platform.
Well, simple answer, ableton on the surface, touchable on a cheap iPad 1
I was contemplating this but with touchable on iPhone....but only have the iPad version at mo
Live control via Lemur on iPad looks good for Ableton but I've haven't had time to try it out yet. Have only just bought Lemur...

For me this is the best way at the moment. Keeping the worlds separate but bridged is working for me until the next best OS is developed to combine the two effectively.
touchable looks great as well as lemur, conductr etc... but it's the same problem with these as it is with all of these controller apps for monome style grid play, none of this stuff runs self contained on the ipad, at least on the surface it does.... frankly I don't understand why apple would lag behind in this area and I also don't understand why no devs have tackled these cash cows yet, do you know how much moola a dev would make if he created an ableton style app for ios with only 8 tracks or a monome app, look at all the money novation have made for making people jump through all of the launchpad hoops . aarrgghh I don't even want a surface, but I want ableton on a tablet
It seems like Microsoft are already where Apple are planning to be with Windows 10, ie: one operating system for all hardware desktop/laptop/tablet/phone.
The game looks more and more interesting the more I study it...
have you decided to pull the trigger, I'm thinking about it, it's extremely difficult for me to imagine a tablet without audioshare or Samplr, soundscaper, and a few other apps.
Is this really a thing? IIRC, Surface 3 is essentially a laptop, marketed as such, running full versions of all one's favorite Windows software. You can touch the screen of the Surface all day long (and it may respond quite nicely), but that doesn't necessarily make it a tablet. Full-blown Windows = full-blown DAWs at desktop pricing. iOS = leaner DAWs at App Store pricing, etc. ... Pick your poison, the game hasn't really changed, has it?
Maybe I missed something. I do that whenever I have the opportunity, out of habit ...
it's not too complicated, most of us already have desktop software in addition to iPads, what we don't have is anything like ableton live as well as some choice other apps, renoise comes to mind on iOS and we will all be in our 90's by the time we get it
Yeah I pulled the trigger....didn't bother with the keyboard attachment tho..
.....just finished all the installation work and setting up of user libraries etc....
I have to say it's surprisingly intricate to work with the pen whilst using Ableton...
....feels quite natural and creative...still tinkering at the moment....
Just to have a fully functional Ableton Live 9 on a 12" tablet is quite something....especially with my entire sample library at hand and a plethora of vst's that save with the project...
First impressions:
Sounds great! I'm tempted in the long run, I would use my Air 2 as a controller into the surface and as a virtual instrument.
On the other hand I've just had a lot of fun last night with the iConnectAudio 4 playing with an Air2 and a mini retina synced together and felt great not having to have a desktop OS involved.
Both options have their advantages, glad to see the choice is evolving
so which one did you get Dave, and what are the specs?
Animoog MIDI out on the iPad, plugged into the Surface via Music I/O might be an option.
Otherwise I'd love to hear if there are good multitouch synths for windows.
Intel core i5 256gb ssd 8gb ram....apparently the i7's are prone to overheating...
I am mulling over Emulator Pro....but at desk top prices I might have to opt for touchAble mini on iPhone 6
You could also wait one or two years or search for an ipad air 1 with iOS 7.1.2 and save some money and frustrations.
love to hear more about the latency you're dealing with and what sound card you're using it with.
Just trying this at the mo and the latency seems fine but will do more testing and report back...
....seems the best I've found so far to keep production all on 1 tablet...
