Anyone know the internal specs of Audiobus? Is 32bit or 64bit?

    64bit.

Maybe Sebastien can give another hint. Is it something one would use in an everyday-type recording scenario? Or more of a novelty thing - fun to use on occasion?

    Depends on your studio setup.

  • Ha! You set "studio set up", that means the app serves the input / output of more than one device ...

  • There are 'grid' and 'arrow' icons too among the others where I found the 'camera' icon So maybe it's some kind of bi-directional inter-app routing with snapshot & record functionality? (I woild love to have a 'mixer' baked into AudioBus).

  • Use a photo from your library as a background. That would be sooooo cool!

  • ...not as cool as that girl tying Neeson's shoes....but less sexist.

  • A patch browser with a tagging system would be great.... but that's not fun just functionality or? :)

  • No he was absent for a day I bet he is enjoying your guesses. I am too :)

Yep, nice trick... there is no new app. He just need some brainstorming ;D

  • I wish Kymatica would expand Audioshare into a sort of barebones DAW, just so I could stitch different wavs together without needing a 600mb+ app on my limited storage space.

I think it has the potential to be used everyday.

  • Could it be an app that turns our iOS device into an external effects unit? Takes external audio in, routes it through effects, and sends it to the iOS audio out, without noticeable lag? Maybe this is already possible (I don't yet own the Audiobus app, sorry).

You can already do this with an iConnectMidi device, I think.

    64bit.

Really, you are using double precision floating point for internal mixing in AB?

  • Nah, we're not. But every app has to be 64 bit these days, but then I have an inkling that we're not talking about how to address memory... :D

  • Compiled as 64 to fit the store but 32 inside? @Sebastian

There's a difference between what kind of bitrate the audio has and the executable file. The executable binary is 64bit because Apple requires this since a few weeks. But the bitrate of the internal audio (as far as I know) is dependent on whatever the input and output apps use. If both support 32 bit, that's it. I don't know of any apps that support or require 64 bit of audio bit depth.

  • If you’re doing internal multiplication, convulsion, fnarkling and startling on two or more inputs at the same time to produce a single result, although both might be a certain bit depth and the result is also to be that bit depth, you want the internal processing gubbins to be much greater depth to avoid clipping and loss during the mathematics and stuff.

  • Yeah, but Audiobus doesn't process anything.

But it limit me still to 16bit output.... or?

It's an alarm clock, which locks you out of AB and tells to go to bed

  • No, as mentioned above, it's all about what input and output apps support.

  • can we get more hints? is it audio, video, or midi based app? does it have to do with creating sounds, processing sounds, or recording/storing sounds? what kind of apps do these 3rd party developers make, synths, drum machines, effects? as you can tell I'm very excited.

I have been noticing for a while that a lot of recent updates to music apps have been an update of the AB SDK and in many cases specifically updating to AB 2.16. Check your app update list and you may see the same thing.

As Sebastian said AB is waiting until a few more apps have updated their AB SDK so there are other apps we can use with the new secret app, no clue what it is. Sampler/mixer/signal router??
    Very curious, can't wait!

  • it will be a painting add on... we will be able to paint our synths and drum machine, useful and fun

  • 8k views, peeps are drooling , hoping for another game changer..

    Hope so!

At least tell us the price @sebastian?

  • Perhaps it's a game.

It's neither audio nor video nor midi based.

The apps we're launching with are a drum machine, many effects apps, a markov chain sound slicing app, a looper, a midi controller/ sound slicer. Patterning will also support it but that's only going to be launched in August, so after our launch. Did I mention how much I love Patterning?

But then all Audiobus compatible apps are also supported, just not with extended functionality.

It could be the first of a new class of applications and some of your suggestions came very close or have already guessed our upcoming project(s) after this. It all depends on how much you guys like it :)

It's not going to cost a lot. I don't want to mention a price now because we could be adjusting it shortly before launch.
