Dang.. can anyone tell me how MixBox is on cpu???

I’m also curious why they used the CS after MixBox when in the past that was used to denote a lite version of an app… like Amplitude CS vs Amplitude for iPad?

From the looks of things, IK is consolidating its branding. The CS doesn't denote Jnr, it's the IAP mechanism IK use across multiple channels. It stands for Custom Shop.

Ahh ok, I was curious because I know it’s not the lite version yet they used that in the past.

Can you speak on the cpu usage of MixBox at all? My iPad is getting up there so this is more and more of a concern for me particularly for bigger sessions?

It’s very efficient on cpu usage. Obviously it depends on the effects but anything aside from a few of the reverbs and you won’t incur much overhead. Even the reverbs are pretty minor hits on the cpu on my iPad 8.

Well that seems like a no-brainer.

    Agreed.

    Even I’m tempted.

    I already have ToneStack Pro
so the combination of ToneStack Pro
and MixBox CS would be very similar
to Drambo and MiRack for me.

It would be worth it for the LA-2a
    and the Pultec emulations.

It’s until 7th December which is
    plenty enough time to consider.

Shoot! At that price, even I might buy it.

I also already have ToneStack Pro, but I really never use it. I’d probably never use this either.

Since the sale is supposedly until Dec 7th, I’ll hold off another week until Black Friday/cyber Monday, you never know, they might do a one day flash sale for $19.99 or something!

Either that, or something else will pop up on sale that I’ve just got to have.

I think you might have a lot of fun with MixBox, Ed.

I don't know how it is for others, but I cannot recall any crashes or system freezes due to MixBox.

Jacob Haq did a video a few months back and I remember him saying that he had to do a lot of track freezing to work around the CPU limitations. I'm guessing it's not a plugin you'll be putting on every track in a project.

But which iPad was he working with? I've never faced such problems with my old model iPad Pro.

  • Just looked the video up, it was a 2018 iPad pro, he had about 24 tracks and had at least 3 rack fx on each track.

Still, it's encouraging from your experience that it's not that heavy. At £25.99 I'd be crazy not to.

Some of the FX definitely hit cpu harder than others as to be expected. It really depends on the module. Ex. The EQ 81 pushes me up to 25% while the other 3 available EQ’s sit around 8-15% depending. This all on the efficiency cores. I find most FX in MixBox to sit between single digits and the low teens. The heavier ones around 20-25%.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I am not expecting to get any new modules for free and their business model on desktop is to sell additional items a la carte as well as selling lots of different bundles of gear.

In any case, they have lots of sales. There will often be an opportunity to get any new stuff at a discount if you’re patient. :-)

    Ok. Wow.

  • CS may also mean channel strip in this case, but I don’t know for sure.

IKM aren’t exactly consistent. SE sometimes means cut down version, sometimes special edition. There’s nothing cut down about T-Racks SE for example it’s just a different collection of widgets. I guess it depends on how much espresso they’d had that morning.

Trying to understand what makes them tick ended up being fairly entertaining during the group buy :-)

Not sure if this has been mentioned along with all the other IK sales but you can get the al-in IAP for AmpliTube for $29.99/£25.99.

That’s a pretty big saving. I wish AmpliTube was auv3 though, that would make it a must-buy.

    The same.

Luckily there is possible to transfer purchased IAP between "Amplitube CS for iPad" and "Amplitube CS for iPhone". Here is the link to instruction.
