@MatthewAtZenbeats do you think we will see note repeat and pad groups on the drum sampler? Id really love to be able to layer sounds in the sampler but Atleast pad groups would be a quick and dirty way of allowing this.

I'd love to see note repeat in ZR1!

    Pad Groups
I would think supporting multiple samples per pad would better achieve this. What do you think?

Please pass mucho kudo to the team. I’ve been around since Stagelight and those early dev/user live chats with the team. I had a different sn here but we’ve exchanged quite a bit. Congrats on the progress. Come along way.👌🏽

I see myself using Z3 a lot this year. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words and the support man! We have come a long way, but still have forever to go, lol :-)

any ideas about koala sampler, hammerhead, etc just giving a blank white screen? no matter what we try to do i CANNOT get those apps to integrate..

also, if there was a way to midi out everything to xequence2 on different channels and then create tracks in xequence2 for each zenbeat channel, and use midi thru to keep xequence as a midi hub where i just go into xequence and change the selected track and it will change the zenbeat instrument with my external keyboard? cant seem to figure this out either, ..... so yeah my main issues are koala sampler and using xequence2 midi thru..

    thanks for an awesome app!

  • Does the new slicer only work on samples you record into the app? I’m trying to slice an imported drum loop but can’t find a slice option

On another note, since I have a feeling folks will be following, asking and requesting more of Zenbeats development….do you guys want me to merge all or some of the Zenbeats threads?

I think it would be easier on @MatthewAtZenbeats to respond and inform us in a centralized thread. I think there will always be other threads for more specific issues with it but it would be great to have a clear home base for the latest update, FAQ, tips and tricks.

    What say you Zenbeaters?

from me +1 for merge (if the flow makes sense) , or at least lock the other thread :)

Yeah, looks like audio editing is restricted to the drum sampler. I initially imported loops into an audio module thinking I could come back and slice em up once arranged. Negative. Or…I’m missing something.

Ah ok, thanks. It doesn’t seem to work importing audio onto a pad in the drum sampler either. I can only see slice options if I record the audio to a pad. Seems a bit of a strange limitation.

You can slice an imported loop. Import to a pad and then tap the arrow on the right edge of the pad. It works but I think it needs some tweaking in the transient detection because the slices are not always what you might expect. At this point it seems there’s a lot of manual tweaking that needs to be done but I need to spend more time with it to be sure it’s not just user error.

Hmmm. New to the mod tools and didn’t even know locking threads was possible. Perhaps that’s above my pay grade as I don’t see the option. Sounds like the best option indeed. Hopefully hear from a few more Zenbeaters on the topic and I’ll also check with Michael about how best to move forward should there be consensus on merge/lock.

Maybe lock the other threads and start a Zenbeats 3.0 thread?

  • Having tried Zenbeats for the first time last night, I could very easily see this becoming my DAW of choice. I've been using Cubasis for the past year, so I'm mostly comparing things to that.

Firstly, The drum sampler is amazing - to be able to work on the drumkit as a whole, yet have quick LP/HP filter & waveform editing per sample, along with each sample getting its own mixer track (allowing individual per-sample effects) is super useful. This thing is begging for drag-and-drop iOS Files app support though!

Cubasis has no pattern ghost/cloning which bugs me a little, but I'm pleased to see with Zenbeats it's very easy to drag out a pattern to create 'clones' (and all pattern automation is neatly duplicated too.

When it comes to automation, the editor is a breeze to use, both in pattern and track automation modes, and I was especially pleased to see spline curves between automation points! Editing automation while the track was playing did seem to continually crash the Auv3 effect however, although I suspect this will be patched fairly quickly. (Maybe a similar issue to Auv3 synths failing to load & displaying a white background?)

Being able to list all automate-able parameters is a nice touch, but unless I'm missing something, i don't think you can record parameter tweaks to automation in real-time? (this would make it nigh on impossible to recreate a manual X-Y pad pattern/sweep - I'm thinking Wow Filterbox for e.g)

One final thing, @MatthewAtZenbeats are you able to comment on how well this DAW handles multi-core processors (M1 iPad specifically) as I know Cubasis excels in this department

If I import a drum loop (or any longer file like an a cappella) I get the slice editor button. If I import a single drum hit I don’t. Not sure why that would be. I think the new drum machine needs a tutorial because some of it is not intuitive. Sometimes it’s hard to know if it’s “a bug or a feature”!

    I think that’s the best option @anickt

Currently don’t see the thread lock tool so awaiting instructions from Michael.

BTW, how are you feeling about Z3 so far. I definitely remember you from those early live chats with the Stagelight team.

Have you stuck around the whole time?

    Ahoy Capn!

I was a big Zenbeats fan but they made some changes (particularly to the UI) that didn’t work for me so I got away from it. I tried CB3 but couldn’t connect with it overall. Nothing was really working for me other than NS2 but… no audio tracks.

Toward the end of last year I found that FLSM has a lot going for it and IMHO was as close to NS2 with audio tracks as I had seen. Much of it (including MIDI editing) is as good as NS2 which is my gold standard for workflow. Of course no AU but that was less of an issue than I thought.

When Roland dropped Zentracker i saw some interesting improvements to the UI I was hopeful they would get ZB back on track and for the most part I think they have.

    😎👍🏼

@MatthewAtZenbeats do you know if this topic (or any general v2 vs v3 topics) may be covered in one of the Zenbeats Cloud Academy courses or any other online material?
It could be interesting to have some documentation on this, as apparently it is generating a bit of confusion now.

    Quick tip—

One thing I see is that if I create a new drum kit and start adding samples, the parameter controls (chosen on the left ie: Gain, Pitch, etc) can be wonky and pads sometimes get arbitrarily deselected until I save the new kit. After that it seems to work as expected.

  • How do folks use session and arrange view together? I’m assuming there’s a way to record session clips to the timeline yes? Is that the only way the two views can interact?

Ah... I feared as much, that's a pain, thanks for confirming

  • Didn’t we used to be able to drag fx to rearrange their order? Can’t get it to work.

So far this new ZB is very good given the few teething pains that are sure to get ironed out.

    Thanks @MatthewAtZenbeats and team! 😎👍🏼

I believe so. Don’t see anyway to drag and drop or send scene to timeline. Id love if there was more flexibility here.

Yeah right now the only way is to set the record mode to "Record To Timeline". I agree, an easy way to copy all parts or individual parts to the timeline would be nice!

You should still be able to drag and drop to rearrange effects.

If you have an external controller you can map it to an AU parameter and record the automation that way.

... at least you could in previous versions. I haven't tried yet in ZB3.
