nope, discord is ultra-mess 🤣
nope, that’s basically just another forum with sophisticated tags and categories system, but unlike the thing I have in my mind…
there is no forum, social network or chat system, which would properly handle navigation within multiple branches of smaller threads naturally growing from one main root base thread..
maybe I should try to create some prototype and see if people would like it
it's called reddit
If we count on topic messages this thread is like 8 pages long xD
How is that different from a Discord server with a group for GR2? Have a few specific channels like song creation, troubleshooting, tips, etc.? You can start branching threads from a channel that diverges from the main conversation which easily link back to where it originated.
I'm thinking ai could at one point be helpful with some sort of automatic indexing, sort of auto generating sub threads. I can see a sort of cloud with topics and branches generated. With even replies to a question together instead of replies to a question spread over multiple pages interspersed with other questions.
Doesn't this need a new thread? 😅
Finally found some time to put into learning GR2 and so far I love it. I have two questions that I’ve not found an answer to though: 1) is there no way to use the Pure Acid sequencer with the built-in Pure Acid bass? And 2) how on earth do I record the output of a midi generator (Rozetta Bassline) into a clip?
Amazing, thanks @Frank303

subreddit sounds like a good idea to me. Not only about Groove Rider, but also Poison, Pure Acid, and whatever could comeThere could be a tag per app, and a tag to showcase tracks. That way it would be easy to identify the different topic types.
GR2 🙌 (Maybe my fave music station alongside cb3)
Works also in Loopy Pro, will post a video later of setup, if people are interested.
Loopy Pro, Garageband also works both via IAA
testing N-Track studio with it now, just got the 7 day free trial for N-Track. Anybody else use this app? How do you like it?
Is there a way to input a guitar in the sampler without having to use something like loopback?
Sure. Go to settings/audio and enable Audio Input, then select your interface. Then pick the audio interface from the list of audio sources.
Now when you go to Edit in the sampler and create an empty clip, pick Audio Input as the input.
I prefer to minimize the sampler window before recording because the jerky waveform drawing updates are distracting.
Great, thanks.
I’ve always had a hard time getting good guitar tracks going in loopers. Any general tips on setting bar lengths, synching start/stop timing to sound natural, getting a good flow, etc.? It’s a pretty broad topic but a skill I’ve wanted to nail down.
If you're into guitar looping, there's no better tool on iOS than Loopy Pro. I started to list them, but the list got long, and it's off topic.
With a more limited sampler like GR-2, I get best results if I:
Unfortunately, GR-2's sample editor is somewhat basic. Other editors such as Meow, Neon, and Auditor have more features for making better loops. But GR-2 gets the job done, and it makes up for lack of some things with its good warp time stretch.
To record dry in GR-2, you can set up your FX on one of the busses so that you can monitor with them while you play. You can always resample with the FX to burn them to a loop once you have the loop trimmed and have tweaked the FX how you like.
Is it possible to record sounds into Koala inside GR2? Let's say I want to record a Bleep bar into Koala?
Not especially straight forward, but you can do it. Put Koala in as an effect on one of the FX busses or on the master. You can route the track straight to the spot where you put Koala using the button under Output on the right of the part screen. Mute any other tracks and start playback. Now you're ready to record in to Koala.
In some cases it might be just as easy to export the audio and import it into Koala by the time you go through all that.
Loopy Pro didn’t quite click with me back when I tried it a year or two ago, but I was very new to iOS music production. Was thinking of trying it out again now that I have a much better understanding of fundamentals. I wanted to dig into GR2 more before tackling Loopy again.
Those two are the only hosts I use these days. Each is almost perfect in its own way.
Cool. Do you find the two work particularly well in tandem? Or do you use each for different scenarios?
Separately, as the mood strikes me. I know you can output GR-2 into Loopy and you can host Loopy in GR-2, but other than just figuring things out because I like to, I don't see much utility in that.
Thanks @wim, as you said, I think export/import might be the way to go then! I haven't verified yet, but is it possible to record into GR2s native sampler? I'm looking for a way to add a Bleep bar into the song timeline.
something isn’t clicking for me. I have my interface recording but I can’t get it to “record during playback”
I want the track to play while I go to sampler>edit>create new sample > select audio interface> record so it is recorded to the timeline at the correct place. ; or is this not possible ?
What I've done is open Koala standalone to record and open the same project in GR2. I record in KS, save project then re-open in GR2 to update it. This gives me the best of both worlds without. I suppose you could do the same thing inside AUM as well.
I've done this. I've got the Connect 6 audio interface, so direct digital input to iPad. I record VSTs directly from my computer into GR2.
I have found that there's a bug in GR2 where it makes the recording sound like it's distorted and bit crushed. Happens quite a bit. Only remedy I've found is to re-record it again and see if that one is OK.
I've also found that sometime it gets the sample rate wrong - does 44.1 instead of 48. So I've had to quit/restart and this eventually seems to fix it (sometimes it takes more than one go).
There are a few other improvements I'd like to be added to the sampler also.
1) Threshold recording - so it starts/stops when level goes above the selected input level
2) Be able to see the sample window as full screen (like the record window). Currently way too small, (even on a big iPad).
3) Be able to map start/end sample to E1/E2 knobs when in slices mode.
Thanks! I will look into it! I do not make use enough of standalone apps, I should!
Anyone else having issues with the latency in this app when using on-screen drum pads etc? I’m on iPad Pro 12,9 M1 latest iPadOS. Triggering from external controller seems fine, but practically impossible to do any finger drumming/playing using the touch screen. I’ve tried changing buffer size under audio settings, doesn’t help much at all. I don’t have this issue in any other app at all.
