I think that if worms carried machine guns then birds wouldn't fuck with them but that’s irrelevant. That will never happen. America is an imperialist power and the only way they will withdraw forward deployed power is if some one makes them….and China is the only contender but here’s the catch…with no combat experience. The movie Three Days of the Condor has a scene in it where a character asks “What do you think Americans will do if they don’t get their goods and comforts from the rest of the world?” And then explains that society would eat itself and that if we don’t do horrible things to remain the top dog some one else will. So in some weird logic model the horrible things the government does are necessary and justified. Well, thats how every government feels. It just took me forty years to realize it. Government is a terrible thing.
If my thoughts were the basis for society there would be no military because militaries are the cells that serve a cancer called war. Destroying what you create only to have to rebuild it is counter intuitive.

A good and funny summary of feudal overlord, but me thinks, they would seem quite ordinary in reality, except for their own petty insecurities, encompassing the man-child within.

Trump believes in “I win - You Loose” transactions. This tariff argument dates back to interviews he gave in the 80’s.
He thinks it will generate huge revenues and could effectively run the country on that income. He thinks the other country pays the tariff but the buyer (here in the US) must pay the tariff.
The MAGA case knows even less about global financial transactions than Trump does. But just follow his lead here.

During the election he promised voters lower prices but he might just give them a recession instead.
Mid-term elections (in about 20 months time) should be interesting.
There is an empowered reckless about Trump this time. And the powers that could put him in check have been co-opted.
He will need to be restrained if not outright blocked by elections. Mid-terms and beyond since like any good dictator he will never give up power willingly.
The resistance will grow and start to organize around leaders that step forward with compelling framing for these overreaches.
I was looking forward to solid action to control our deficits but only using tools that maintain order, stability and a return to the rule of law.
When his term is up, in 4 years time, he will be a physical and mental wreck.
Presumably there are a lot of ambitious Republicans who want him to move on so they have a chance at the White House.
