Another beauty. I'd love a $trandberg
. One thing I don't get about these guitars is there seem to be so many brands with such a similar if not identical shape. I know other manufacturers have had legal battles as a rsult of body similarities.
That statement nails the headless appeal for me. So nice to play because of the weight distribution.
I have a baritone ESP but not really able to comprehend the scaling of a fan. Never mind the microtonal fretboards.
@NeuM thx man - yeah the resonance of the instrument is unlike ANY other brand on the market atm thanks to their proprietary secret sauce and the chambering. It’s ALMOST like a semi hollow body it’s that loud acoustically
@Ailerom thx, yes I know right!!! It just feels like “how did they not figure this out sooner!”(and they did 40 years ago but it was too ahead of its time , NEd steinberger, the first greatest electric Luthier of all time made the first headless in 1984….only to be matched finally 10 years ago by the one and only Rick Toone who’s work is beyond comprehension and touch of mere mortals and wallets lol (his cheap build is $5,700 and his most intricate piece sold for over $35k) but yeah , Aristides has perfected this and actually made a manufacturing line like a ford plant! This is worth a watch as it BLEW my mind, and I truly mean anyone who’s interested even slightly even guitar making luthiers you must simply watch this
In re: to the fan…that was my only reticence in this aquisition. It was spec’d exactly as I wanted, even color, but I asked I I could have straight standard fret scale as I was concerned about the fan in the first position. They assured me the 6 string fan being 25”-26” is not only within the feel range of a standard to the point I wouldn’t notice it, they said I might actually like the nuance when applied and guess what dude - they weren’t lying
The fan is only somewhat noticeable when you play like an F chord in first position ; aside from that you don’t notice it whatsoever. The advantage is quite striking: the 26.2” low e is so much clearer with that extra .7” of length as the tension increases with using lighter gauges as opposed to needing a heavier gauge string to compensate . So I can use a 8-38 set and it’ll feel like a 9-42 set, and on the high end, having it half an inch shorter actually facilitates smoother playing in the upper fret register …
so while I ALMOST almost went with a standard headstock version without a trem !! and no Lundgren pickups!! (wah wah) until I was assured I had to try it to understand and this opportunity wasn’t going to come up again (traded two guitars, one $4k, the other $2k for one $4k guitar) for this model; and now I am so 😇 grateful I listened to the guys who I thought were just shills for the brand
I have a 27” scale baritone (8 string, straight fret) and I DID not like the fan on the 8 string, as it was 26.5-28”, whcih is not only a big fan but 28” is far too long for a guitar neck if you ask me; I mean really 8 strings are too much, which is why I sold my other 2 and just kept 1 for the sake of posterity and because it was a 5.5k ESP custom shop so I won’t ever get what it’s worth so I rather enjoy it once a month or whatever it is. Baritone and 7+ strings are so silly man lol, but this ^ LOOKS like a gimmick and it’s the furthest thing from it
Have you guys heard of Lundgren pickups?
That was a good read and has given me a new outlook on fanned frets, so thank you. I also didn't know (should have been obvious) how they are simply two scales top and bottom. I love my 7 string baritone but I can see how it would not be for everyone. It is a huge guitar.
I just saw the Aristides construction material. Sounds very interesting. Given the carbon fibre and unique injected material, how is the tuning, weight, strength? Compared to other guitars.
My first recall is of EVH playing Steinberger with the up AND down tremolo. I think he used it on Get Up which is one of my favourite Eddie riffs.
Lundgren is new to me. I know these are in a different league but I was happy with them over stock Squire pickups (http://irongear.co.uk/irongear_pickups_038.htm)
@yellow_eyez Wow, I did NOT need to watch that video.
I had not, thank you. Cool stuff (they're located about a 90 minutes drive from where I live) and always interesting with options and the fact they got Schecter to order from them says a lot (because they do their own mics).
Does anyone with a Vox Air thingy use the USB with their iDevice and AUM for extra effects? I’m wondering if it’s a viable prospect for a lightweight amp to jam with mates. I can’t find anything about whether the USB allow simultaneous input and output, and if the latency is in any way acceptable… also considering the MV nutube things they do as an alternative to use with either a speaker or simple PA setup…
lol I know right $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lol
But dude, idk if you remember but I traded $6k for $3k cuz THATS how good it is. I took half a loss just to touch the entry level best. Idk where you’re located but I urge you to try to find a trade dude…
idk if you’re into trading but I mean it’s something we do a lot in the online guitar community and it’s somewhat dangerous now as scammers impersonate legit people. But luckily I found a reputable dude. IF you’re in the USA , and if you have like one hi end axe and one medium tier axe, he’ll take them on a 2 for 1, and he has about 6 atm I think… pm me if u need/want any specific or more info Re: that
I thought of you first when I mentioned it. You’d love them. In my opinion the finest pickups are made by Swedish Lundgren and English Bare Knuckle pickups … but that’s just my personal opinion
If you like metal, the ULTIMATE METAL PICKUP is the Lundgren M series , my goodness; it’s like Thors hammer when you strike a note and let the string ring
Sort of into trading but it's not often a winning move. I recently sold some things and traded a few things to get a rockerverb and a 7 string. I'd probably have to let go of the 70's LP I've had for over 35 years to get an Aristides. As great as they look that's not going to happen.
So, the M must stand for Mjölnir then... 😃
I'm fairly happy with the ESP's I have on my LTD, but it's always good to know.
I do not like metal, I loooove metal. I was about 8 years old when my older brother put on Black Sabbath - Paranoid, and it scared the life blood out of me. Loved it and went cold on my big idols like CCR and Status Quo 🤣 (the latter is a bit embarrassing to admit but man, they were big then).
Metal is energy so it's not something I put on to just listen but instead when I need to get shit done. Nowadays I'm trying to be open to all sorts of sound and music.
I just watched 'Death of a Unicorn' (was okay) and when the end credits rolled with someone called St Vincent playing - I had to look them up, and it is a real cool she person 🙃 who mix in heavy guitar in more modern music, very cool.
That’s literally too funny - I was trying and almost traded my 7 string for a Rockerverb only a week ago if not less wow
Yeah trade usually implies you go into it knowing you’ll lose but sometimes you do get lucky and find a good deal or good trader who is fair and interested in ur offer (TGP is full of them; I did two trades on there successfully so that’s also a good place altho FWIW my first Ari scam was on TGP too…)
But for sure Yeah don’t ever sell that LP dude , not even for an Ari. I get it man, it’s an LP from 1977
Your post made me very happy to read - 🙌
Metal f’n rules dude !!!
That’s what I’m trying to do atm (metal + whatever it is I do on the op1F)
Trying
And yeah; I looked it up and your most likely right about Mjölnir! See, no metal guitarist was able to tell me for 20 years what it stood for, and in one post, an electronic multimedia artist/guitarist figured it out in one post without even knowing the pickup or brand - life is truly amazing , perspectives and insights you may not see that are right in front of you that others may, and vice versa
What a beautiful gift , what a wonderful world
@yellow_eyez @Pxlhg My children are now old enough (and I may have influenced them a little) to start me getting into bands I never did before. It seems you can only listen to Pantera so many times before it clicks.
Can you gentlepeople recommend a good cable, I've bought a brand called Supreme from the local music shop (yes we still have one, for now at least). One just fell apart the other day, at the contact, and was hanging by one(1) copper thread. The other one has started to make sounds you don't want if you touch the contact. I guess it's a bit like with headphones or anything that moves around but still would like to know if this is something you even invest a little bit extra in?
To be honest, no. I have not found that any I was willing to pay more for last so long that it would encourage me to pay more for one vs less for 2 or more.
You probably right, thanks for the input 😃
Man, that made me so proud and happy to hear that even if it’s forced osmosis, your kids have Pantera in their heart - or at least in the back of their minds !
Please 🙏 share with us some of the bands or songs that your children showed you that you enjoyed and would recommend , I’d love to see what they appreciate with such a great dad showing them the true and proper ways of the metal !!!!
@Pxlhg what kind of cable dude? 3.5mm or TRS/TS? If you need 1/4” TS/TRS, I have two I like: Ernie ball makes very good quality cables and lovely neon colors [not that it matters] and Mogami is super high quality. Then you have decent bulk like Monoprice, which is cheaper but not too bad. In re:3.5mm man, idk dude , it’s all the same mostly but again: monoprice or ANKER , but if you want to spend for the best, Teenage engineering , I know I know don’t throw stuff at me but they make the best quality stuff bro honestly
Just a standard mono guitar/bass cable, 6.5mm.
The Mogami seem to be the thing after reading your reply and checking options but the one for USD250 is not🤣
After all, and what Ailerom leaned towards, whatever the price they will brake of use, it's a poor concept to begin with.
There are some, for about USD50, that I can imagine go for and test at least one time if it's worth it, we'll see. Thanks bro!
Edit: this is a subject I never even thought of exploring before and as usual: it's a jungle of options and China copies. I will buy an Ernie Ball to begin with, from Amazon. Now, don't kill me but: cheap and free delivery - to your home. It's impossible to resist..
They are pretty crazy about a lot of bands but Pantera are high on their list. They have CDs and Records of all the big 5.
Ok, so some I knew of, some I'd heard, some I didn't like. This is probably an incomplete list of the impact they are now having on me:
Pantera- didn't like, now love
Anthrax- liked before, getting into it more and more
Megadeth- not a fan but have discovered quite a few songs I hadn't heard that are great
Incubus- I never knew they were more than Drive, but they are so much more
Suicidal Tendencies- I like a few songs but there are only some productions I like so I think it may be more about the production whether I like it or not
Mad Season- listened to many times but only clicked after the kids played it around me again. Sublime.
Misfits-trying to see what others see but it's a struggle
Nailbomb- nice simple metal, sound great. Didn't know they existed but yeah, Cockroaches!!!
Sepultura- never really listened to but realising there is some great music in their collection
Slayer- not so much. It's cool but I'm yet to feel the vibe
Helmet- loved them before and get a second go at a forgotten relic thanks to the next generation
Snot- never checked them out as I thought they can't be serious, but they are, and they are good listening
Stone Temple Pilots- always loved a few songs but my kids started me appreciate the deeper cuts
System of a Down-I liked one album but never searched deeper. Suddenly, thanks to my house DJs, I have a bunch of great new SOAD that I hadn't heard much of. Loving these guys a lot.
Soulfly- never listened to them but the have a great sound so chalk up a new band on my play list
Death- not there yet. The recordings sound bad to me. May a remaster would change that.
Acid Bath- can't recall hearing this so will have to check it out. Maybe they are doing staged releases to protect my fragile mind
Rage Against The Machine- 2, maybe 3 songs I was into. My son in particular loves them. I think every album is great now.
Deftones- more a joint revisit/discovery. I'd heard of them but they never clicked. Now I'm a huge fan. Possibly my biggest find in the last few years
Machine Head- listened to a little but with more exposure comes tolerance and I could listen to them for hours now.
On a side note: My wife's favorite band at present is Kublai Khan TX. If you can think of anything in that style I'll see what she thinks. The vocalist seems to be the deal breaker with other bands as she love the voice of Matt Honeycutt.
And lastly, my son is a great drummer at 15, my daughter plays bass so we play a lot of songs from the above bands. We literally created our own band!
Thanks man , that’s an eclectic but tight list, some of the best of the best of their respective genres and creators of their own in some cases like Death
Fantastic , I’m gona listen to some more of the ones I don’t know … thank you again
Dude can you curate a list for the bands like Suicidal Tendencies and Sepultura and you know some of the bands that are in that vein?
In other words, what are your favorite albums from the most metal?
I can do that. I'll need to have a chat to the kids as I don't know (for example) which Suicidal Tendencies albums I like as the kids were playing them. Will report back.
I like your list @Ailerom and if you don't have the coolest family relations I don't know what. Congrats on that.
Now, System of a Down and their Chop Suey blew the fucking socks off me first time I heard it. I wouldn't exactly list them as metal though (not important, jus' sayin'), Korn are probably more so. I absolutely love Tool, I was late to discover them but still listen a lot when I work on something not sound related. They seem to have two camps of hater and lovers
I also digest some Meshuggha on occasion (that drummer - oh my), often when I want to annoy my neighbour. 🤣
Listening to Kublai as I write, my sound but despite just mentioned Meshuggha, growl has no warm place in my heart.
Yeah I'm much into genres. Not one I got from my kids but I love Mastodon. It's a different sound but it really clicks for me. We love Tool, but I was already in love so it's not on the list. That is just what the kids have brought to my attention. Mad Season are an extension of Alice in Chain for me but Mad Season are certainly not Metal
Yes, it's amazing playing music with my children. We've written quite a few songs but no lyrics, just jams. My son and daughter are starting to get really locked in as the rhythm section which warms my heart no end.
Omg dude , I love you (in the most platonic way)….i was like this dude KNOWS his metal. I agree with your many comments
Awesome dude ! And post some jams if you have anything you feel like sharing man
I just realised, that I'm very stupid (actually a lie as well, I've known it long). I posted a video and a question about tuning your guitar in EADGFC, 4ths they call it, I think. I was curious if you do that, play with various tuning (not drop-d 🤪 )
I gonna move the video over as well, damn .. so dumb.🥲🤣
///here's that post🥹 ///
Are any of you trying different tunings, drop-d aside? I saw this tuning in 4th EADGCF thingy and it seems it might be useful, especially if you are "all over" the fretboard. I'm reluctant to do anything new (with the guitar) as I've become so thick headed. 🙃
Anyway, I got this in my YT feed for whatever reason, and watched a bit:
Tuning changes are cool
They can offer you the chance to step outside of licks and patterns
It’s something i have only recently begun to explore doing as well mostly due to my 8 string guitar
I’ve always just done drop E with it but now I’m curious to experiment
What do you usually write in? ( i often find I just revert to E because of the tuning and I wonder now what would happen if I messed around like that video….)
Yes! Open G, drop D, double drop D, DADGAD… all inspiring.
I recently decided to learn Joni Mitchell’s “Just Like This Train”. I had no friggin’ idea where to begin until I found this site. She’s tuned to CGDFCE for that song so it took awhile before I could play it through. Drones and suspensions for days…
Another open tuning fave, Jonatha Brooke
Love that Aristide @yellow_eyez
I’ve always wanted one of the headless designed Kiesels that looks like a strat (body-wise)
Or a Strandberg!
I don't think I'm good enough to start with, I mean I still struggle to keep tones clean whatnot. I did tune a half step down to Eb and the guitar got a bit beefier sound and easier to play, problem was I already messed with the truss rod and bridge what have you to get as low action as possible, when tuning down it became a problem only solvable by starting over. I need a second guitar damn it.
Speaking of:
Yes, I want one of those and if I could have two (dream big) I'll have one with that sustainiac mic.
All of us start from scratch and you’re definitely good enough to try out a non-standard tuning. I recommend open G. Instant Keith Richards. Plenty of YT vids to get you going.
