@ecamburn - What do you see coming from the Alesis with a midi monitor?

Hah, you beat me to it. I was just looking

The keyboard controller has note on and note off message. The alesis only has note on messages and some of the messages have velocity=0

Note-On at zero velocity is supposed to be treated the same as Note-Off. Probably the Alesis is sending this form of midi, and GR-2 isn't dealing with it correctly.

You should see that each note-on with non-zero velocity is matched with a note-on at zero velocity. If so, the midi is valid, but GR-2 has a bug.

  • Thanks @wim. Anyone know how to get ahold of Jim? I tried [email protected] a while back and didn’t get an answer.

That's the way I've reached him in the past. The App Store support link opens Facebook. I'm not signing on to contact him there, but it might work for you. https://www.facebook.com/jimaudiodsp/

Which AUv3 plug-ins are you having issues with?

I ask this because it's up to each individual AUv3 plug-in to adapt to its UI to the view-port size given to it by the host. Some plug-ins (if they don't fit horizontally) add an option to pan/scroll the UI as one example.

Aurora DSP's Rhino and Mammoth. They're both cut off from the bottom, especially Rhino, making it impossible to use properly. It's really too bad since they're the only good guitar amp simulators I have.

And yes, their scaling is up to the developer. The only thing Jim could do is add either a windowed or a full-screen mode for auv3s, which is a much bigger task than Aurora DSP fixing scaling of their plugins.

  • I am curious. I have a Ipad 9th generation. Would this be enough to handle like 8 tracks of Groove Rider 2?
Second question. A 2nd generation Ipad Pro is recommended, but would not the latest Ipad 11th generation be more powerful in processing power?

Can anyone recommend a good price / performance Ipad for use with GR2? What second hand model would be the best option for casual use?

I would recommend to try first and see how far you can go with your iPad 9, it's not a slow device.

    my iPads are 9th gen.
no problems when using GR2 by itself.
you can run out of CPU if you use several CPU-heavy 3rd party AUv3s but for me the whole point is avoiding that since GR2 by itself is well optimized.
(also, i suspect Jim is working on multicore support, at least it was planned when we talked abot that)

  • GR2 can handle 8 tracks no problem on my 9th gen. I could probably bring it to its knees with a lot of heavy plugins if I tried, but I never run into that need.

As I shared in the other GR2 thread, I have multiple emails out to Jim that have gone unanswered. I'm not sure it's a great assumption that he's working on multicore support.

FWIW, I resent my emails sent about a month ago. Fingers crossed that all is well with him.

It's sad that we still don't have AUv3 support in each layer yet. That's the main thing keeping me from using this more.

I don't think "yet" applies. I don't think there's any intention to add that.

The Ipad Pro 2nd Gen is the first model recommanded to be able to run GRII in a correct way . An Ipad 9 with the A13 Bionic processor is more powerfull than the older chip in the ipad Pro 2 . In fact to find a better CPU than the one on the 9th Gen you'll need to go for an Ipad Pro 4 at least and of course starting from the 5th gen the M1 has killed all the other chips available at that time .

Beside this i have an Ipad 9 and i run GR2 with sometimes 16 tracks in a perfect way :)

True, but the question is why. Seems like an odd decision. In-built fx are good but AUv3 make sense from a user perspective, given how many AUv3 already exist. If this was 5-6 years ago, I'd understand the limit.

I’m wondering again if he is okay and safe. Anyone see him on Facebook or anywhere else? I’d check but I don’t have Facebook.

In all fairness, it seems like he has sales in October for Halloween / fall and skips on Black Friday sales, at least historically, so I guess nothing to yet be too concerned about until Christmas time when he typically has sales again..

He replied to my emails a couple of weeks ago.

  • When using Korgs Electribe Wave, how do I access its presets. I’m stumped.

You can't .. Electribe AUv3 doesn't have interface to browse presets innit, it just exposes prestes to AU host app - unfortunatelly Groove Rider 2 doesn't allow browser AUv3 plugin presets (or i am idiot and didn't find them - don't trust me, verify :))

Thanks so much. It somewhat makes it a bit useless. Shame Korg did a half arsed AUv3

So typical for Korg, they do same in HW .. But this problem is something Jim can fix by just exposing plugin's presets in GrooveRider UI .. so maybe @jimpavloff if you will be bored and will have some free time, maybe you can look at it :-)

It's the same problem in Drambo too.

  • People who are already using the app, would you recommend an 11 inch or 12.9 inch M1 Ipad pro for use with this app?
Is the big screen worth it? Or is it more convenient with slightly smaller Ipad?

Feels great on my 12.9 M2. Can’t see it feeling better on a smaller screen.
