Yes, just get the new, totally free one with no IAP, I guess.
I guess it’s either a loss leader for the desktop version, or perhaps a temporary measure to grandfather previous buyers in while making some sort of necessary business change…
Yeah, I was confused downloading it after I paid for the other version 🙄
For anyone getting crashes in the new version: in the "App Sales" thread the dev said they will have a look at the problem and see if they can fix it.
Weird how the original version (w/iap) runs fine on iOS 15-17, but the new version crashes instantly. Haven't seen any crash reports from iOS 18 and up.
Just for the record: the new free version runs fine on my iPad Pro with iOS 17.7 - both stand-alone and in AUM. No crashes.
Interesting. It crashes in launch on my iPad 6 with 17.7.6
Was the old version also compatible with Mac? The licence…
I’m on 1.7.6.1 and it’s crashing. Interesting
This problem with Beat Scholar Mobile on some older devices may be related to memory size. It will not load on my iPad 6, iPadOS 17.7.10, with only 2 GB of RAM. In stand-alone, it fails to load, and does not generate a log file. As AUv3 in AUM, it quits, logging SIGABRT. Compatibility with newer iOS (18 and 26) may be due to their larger memory requirements.
Hey all - I've already submitted a fix that hopefully would help fix some (?) of those crashes, and also add the missing MIDI FX plugin that was missing in the initial release. It's Christmas so Apple might be a bit slow in a approving it but hopefully it would be out soon.
I'm not sure if this is related to the memory of the device or not, although it would be interesting if it did - so far none my simulators or devices show a crash in either standalone or any of the DAWs I own (Loopy, Cubasis, AUM, Logic Pro) but I did manage to run some sanitizers on those simulators to detect something that in theory could be crashing some machines.
Thank you 🙏 happy holidays!
What triggered the new version of the app and free?
Well, the update was something that was coming for a while, we've had updated that already made it to the desktop app and just didn't get around to pushing to them to the iOS version.
The free thing started as a technical constraint - we started a new US business entity and as we're working on porting the app there we decided it might be the best time to just offer it for free and focus on selling the desktop version (and our other desktop plugins).
Free apps and plugins is something we do often, for example we have a free plugin host app/plugin called "Plugin Buddy" for desktop that we offer on our website.
Awesome, thank you!!!
Very cool app @eyalamir, and very generous to offer it for free! Thank you 🤩
Very grateful and blessings on your desktop business 🙏
Amen!
Not really but kinda - we had something called "Beat Scholar Pro" that was a special license you could buy to both, but it was way more expensive than what you would have paid for the iOS version alone.
If you had that license - there was a way to sync that license with our site so you could grab the desktop version for whatever platform you're using (Mac/Windows), and from them on the desktop license would not require the App Store.
Just download the update but it is still crashing on startup. Opens to a black screen and then quits.
iPad Air 2, iOS 15.8.2.
Thanks!
Thank you for letting me know! I've had a hard time reproducing this bug on any of our devices or simulators, but I've ordered a 6th generation iPad from 2018 which should get here in a couple of days, so I'm hopeful that at least that one would give me some ideas on what's going on - its seems to be mostly related to older devices, but I'm not sure yet!
The same for me on iPad 6, iPadOS 17.7.10. This device and the iPad Air 2 have only 2 GB memory, and may not have the space to load the app. The crash does not generate a log file, which probably means that the app did not begin to run. The loader is unable to allocate the required static memory. This may not be a fixable problem.
I mean it's very possible the problem is somewhat memory related but Beat Scholar on the Mac only consumes about 150mb of memory so I'm fairly sure it's quite fixable once I get my hands on a similar device.
Also, I suspect that if the problem was the amount of memory available on the device then the simulator for the iPad Mini 4 (which also has 2 gb of memory) would likely have crashed too, but it doesn't.
Bummer. The original loads fine. Might update to 18 anyway
Hi. You said you're on 17.6.1 and the new version is crashing. But you can update to 18, so your device is not limited to 17, as the 2 GB devices are. What device do you have?
9th gen
model: mk2l3ll/a
I'm actually not convinced the problem is with OS version (since I've tried it with simulators for iOS 15, 16, and 17, and it all worked in any combination of devices that Apple has, like iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4).
I've already ordered an older iPad and should get it in the next couple days, I'm fairly optimistic that once I get it I could get at least get iOS 15 (if not older) to work.
It is good of you to follow up on this problem. Thank you.
Right, so you have 3 GB of memory. And yet it crashes for you.
It’s working fine on an iPad Pro 2017, iOS 17.7.10, in standalone and AUv3 in AUM
Indeed.
