Just installed it to try it out, and encountered two significant bugs in the first five minutes: built-in instruments don't fit on the screen, and automation drop-down menu never closes, is that normal?
Built in instruments have never filled the screen since back when Zenbeats was Stagelight so that’s a design choice not a bug.
Not quite sure what you mean about the second issue? I’m not experiencing it. I tap anywhere other than the drop down menu and it disappears, or I select a parameter and the automation editor opens at the bottom of the screen. Maybe a iOS version specific bug? I’ve just checked on iPadOS 18.6.2.
I guess I should watch some videos then, because I can't figure out how to scroll it on my own. Just to confirm we're talking about the same thing, is it normal that the right side of the synth doesn't fit on the screen?
Doesn't happen after restarting the app and creating a new project (I'm on 26.1).
Ah, sorry, I hadn’t clocked the missing right hand edge. Hmm, weird. Not happening for me.
Maybe @MatthewAtZenbeats can help?
I think one way to fix this is would be to change the UI scaling in the settings?
(Don't have Zenbeats installed at the moment but once the transient-choking thing is fixed I'll likely re-install it).
Excellent idea @Samu, thanks. @alexwasashrimp, follow that advice and change the UI scale factor in the Interface section of the settings. That should work. Cheers.
Any irregular behavior of Zenbeats is highly appreciated with if you can either chime in here or report through the regular support channels🙏. Either way, it will reach the developer directly.
I have now been using the app for years, and I still find things that need fixing or changing but not very often nowadays. On the other hand, I can do exactly the same with ANY app. It’s just part of the game.
Zenbeats is undoubtedly though, very solid as it stands today and one of the most complete DAWs on iOS together with others often mentioned here on the LPF. And for iOS, IT IS NOT A SUBSCRIPTION. If you want to use it across platforms it is, but not for iOS.
Sizing issues for AUv3s are pretty easily fixed as long as we tell the developer, requests for new functions are noted and put on a list and prioritized for future updates and since the app might feel a bit dated when it comes to the UI, I can only guess there are plans for this as well.
Only the developer know about the plans and fortunately for us, @MatthewAtZenbeats is here on a regular basis.
Zenbeats still includes the old internal instruments from its Stagelight days, before it was renamed and included in the Roland portfolio, just as @Robin2 writes. They are there, but as far as I know, not developed or focused on at all. Personally, I do not use them at all and IMHO, Roland can remove them.
Today, Roland bases its synthesizers in Roland Cloud (which Zenbeats is a part of) mainly on the Zencore engine which is included in Zenbeats as ZC1, a rompler style instrument with limited sound editing functions. It is very useful as a “bread ‘n butter” synth and can totally stand on its own, and presets either included or bought in packs can be tweaked to taste or need.
Some of us have made Roland aware though that we’d like to see a fully editable synthesizer version, some kind of “iZenology”, or ZC2 for iOS. Adding to that, all of the AUv3s that we have at our disposal can be used inside of Zenbeats just like with C3 or LP. Development for Zenbeats needs to be synced though with both PC, Mac, iOS and Android and it has to work the same across platforms, which is not always an easy task. It takes time and resources.
There is a loop mode and a linear mode, a good sampler/drum machine and the package is finalized with unlimited audio tracks. If you “click” with the app it is a serious music tool.
I don’t know what else to write🤷♂️, I keep repeating myself in post after post. This is seriously a very good app and I use it on all my projects, it’s my “canvas”. All my covers I have put in https://forum.loopypro.com/categories/creations are Zenbeats based with many sounds coming from the internal ZC1, check them out if you haven’t and have a listen.

I disagree, it’s important they remain to ensure that old projects and old preset packs which use them continue to work. Plus, they’re actually really good and add some variety so it’s not just Roland based instruments (not that there’s anything wrong with them though). Sampleverse and ElectroPulse in particular are superb instruments from the Stagelight days.
Plus, spare a thought for Zenbeats users on Android - they don’t have the option to use plugin instruments and effects so the greater the range of built in synths and sample based instruments the better.
Wow, it was at 140%, that's a weird default. Set it to 100%, everything works well now.
Bought the unlock, seems to be nice after all.
You’re absolutely right.

Any news about Zenbeats 4?
@MatthewAtZenbeats
/DMfan🇸🇪
Glad you like it, saw your post in the DAW-thread!
A dedicated tempo track is in the backlog since before, but parts and loops can have individual tempos as a workaround. An updated and more polished UI is also on the wishlist from us users. Check Zenology out on desktop, my guess is that what you see there will eventually in one way or another trickle over to mobile, but only Roland knows. Zenbeats needs a UI overhaul for sure.
As a new user with fresh eyes you will most likely find stuff that you feel needs changing, fixing or to be added please do let us know here in the thread🙏, for both us and Roland to see.

Anyone know how to change the resolution in a project from 44.1khz to 48khz? I could have sworn there's a setting but can't find it at all.
Uncheck Force 44k.
😊
/DMfan🇸🇪
Oh wow, right in front of me lol 🤣
Wait, on my settings screen it is unchecked.
But my Audio Interface is showing project at 44.1khz.
Wait it worked! I started Zenbeats first. Then connected my Audi interface and it did switch to 48khz! Awesome 💯 thanks @DMfan 👍
👊😉
Have a productive weekend man!

Thanks! Will try. So grateful for this amazing DAW!
I find the way plugins are displayed quite weird. There's so much free space available that is left unused, and some plugins aren't displayed properly at all. Can anyone else confirm OneShot being cropped even at 100% plugin size setting?

It’s a known issue that some AUv3s don’t display properly, and the manual sizing options are not yet fully there for us to fix it ourselves but it is in the backlog. Since a while, the developer have asked us to report the issues here or through the regular support channels with a pic and the name of the AUv3. It’s a minor fix that doesn’t require any app updates, but it needs manual tweaking from their side.

Mariana by Moog could use more space

I don't know what view port size ZenBeats reports to the plug-ins, but most plug-in usually scale to the view-size the host gives them?!
Just for fun I re-installed ZenBeats a few days back and was quite puzzled that it still doesn't support pinch-zoom for zooming and I have to use the small +/- things near the scroll bars, for me personally this slows things down quite a bit...
Hopefully an update is not too far away
Yeah, it would be nice with an update with fixes to stuff we’ve mentioned here. I agree with the +/-, it’s workable but the app needs pinch to zoom. We’ll just have to see what Roland have for us in 2026. I doubt a sudden update this year.
/DMfan🇸🇪
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 , what's up with Zenbeats, have you guys forget about it, seems to be no major update in a while.
Hmm yeah, no updates at all since 3.1.12 which dropped 7 months ago. Thing is, it's hard to imagine that Zenbeats on iOS is actually a money maker for Roland, and on desktop they have to go head-to-head with some much more capable and popular DAWs. Hope the project picks up some momentum.
there is a lot to like about Zenbeats, but it’s klunky.
For sure. It gives Cubasis and Logic a run for the money in terms of feature functionality, but yeah, it's clunky.
@MatthewAtZenbeats

It sure is klunky, I just reinstall it after a while. Wish they could sort it out.
