So, as promised, here's a rough video of what's been up:
SampleCrate has been rewritten from scratch. I'm supporting iOS 18 at least.
• Pads use a realtime audio engine for playing. Fingerdrummers rejoice!
• Pads will have [oneShot, gate, loop] modes as seen in the video
• Pads will have ADSR
• Pads will be able to be played polyphonic (eat that "modern hardware samplers") with ADSR, Velocity. I'll add support for playing with ASCII keyboard as well for those who rock keyboard cases on their iPads. Will probably add MIDI too if there's time but it's not priority on my list. After all it's an app for managing samples and testing how they sound in musical contexts.
• Sample chain has been rewritten from scratch. It should fix the issues people have been having with mixed sample rates & such. Also I added toggles for "equal spacing" and "normalize".
These + a few more & bugfixes will be a free update.
Theeeeeen, I'm working on a wave editor (basic shit: trim, fade, slice to files). This will probably be an in app purchase. I hate subs.
I'm still coding when life permits it... so I won't promise a fixed deadline.
Also, I'll ask for some testers when time will come.
Yay. Who's excited?
PS: a ton of ideas and some code was generated by AI. So wow... interesting times. I'm glad it allows me to move faster though. And the sample chain bug... AI fixed it
I wasn't aware of a stupid noob mistake.
Also a lot of this new audio engine will take me one step closer to making Samplist an AUv3. We're now spoiled though with a lot of good AUv3 samplers, but it's a bucket list item of mine.
@alecsbuga would you be able to support dragging a single sample from the crate to another app?
Hmm I haven’t thought of that.
I’d have to add an “export” mode to the crate where you would pick a pad or drag the export button like you do now to export the whole thing. Good idea
Wow, cool!
I’m glad I got it.
Could you add a simple view of the sample length in time units while playing it? See picture. Down below, in the player?
Maybe there is no room in the iPhone but landscape mode and/or iPad , there is plenty of space.
Is Samplist getting an update or is this gonna be samplist 2 ?
I can add a wave view. I had this idea before but it was kinda cramped in height.
As for Samplist it will be an update. But don’t hold your breath yet.
Update sounds great! Thanks for a great app
What is the easiest way to sync my crates on my ipad to the ones on my iphone?
The update will migrate your current crates and save them in the app's iCloud drive folder.
sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant a view of the length of the sample? This is a screenshot of the native Apple player:
Thanks. That would be easy.
And it would be easy if you could select the samples in the crate to be “open in..”
to work on them.
Or is there already a way to do that?
I’ve collected the best samples in crates,
now I want to use them in wavebox, twisted wave etc.
Tap the export button instead of dragging.
Hmm. It used to work.
But it exports all 15 samples
not one.
Ah, so you want certain samples to be "open with".
I tried Export -> Open in Koala and it only took the first.
Gotcha. Good idea. I'll write it down.
I also made the Crate screen so you can add more to the crate without exiting
