Audio Evolution Mobile Studio 7.0.3 for iOS released:

    • Added a 'Project storage folder' option to the BETA settings where you can change the storage folder for projects to a USB drive for example.
    • Added an option 'Input velocity' to the MIDI input dialog which opens a dialog where you can set the input velocity curve. This can be stored either per MIDI device or per track. The 'Output velocity range' option has been removed and if it was set, it is now mapped to the input velocity curve.
    • Many changes to MIDI remote setup:

      • Added Latched/unlatched and MIDI channel columns to support a wider variety of MIDI controllers with different button behaviors.
      • Because of that, 'Play triggers at 127 only' and 'Arm toggles' have been removed since they can be controlled by turning Latched on or off.
      • 'First available input' is now changed to 'All'.
    • When loading a project with two similar USB MIDI keyboards attached, the app should now assign the correct input to the tracks, given the project was saved with this version.

    • Solved an issue with AUv3's not recording MIDI channel pressure, like the GeoShred Tenor Sax.
    • Ported the 'Load Project' and 'Instrument selection' dialogs to JUCE.
    • Solved issues with default note velocity in the drum pattern editor.
    • Mix-down to M4A format with a sample rate of 48000Hz was not possible anymore. Solved.
    • Solved bugs in and improved the Compressor.

  • Trying to automate the TB Filter in an insert slot on a group channel. I used the touch automation button and moved the appropriate slider in the filter but I messed up and have to redo it. Since the filter is applied to a group channel, there's no corresponding track where I can edit the automation. Doing another take via the touch automation button results in erratic jumps because I'm writing new values on top of the previous take. Is there any way to delete previously recorded automation short of removing the plugin and starting over?

I suggest contacting the dev. He’s very responsive. He may show up here, but a quick email will get you an answer.

When you press the Automation button you should first see the lanes for the tracks, followed by your busses/groups.

Doh! I've been clicking the "parameters" dropdown and didn't think to scroll down far enough in the arrangement view to see the busses. Thank you for the nudge and for all your work with AEMS! It's where all my projects end up for arranging and mixing.

  • Is there an easy way to 'pack' projects with all the referenced samples/audio bundled? I want a clean folder with the final version of the project along with all the referenced/edited audio files and none of the unused files/discarded recordings.

I tried doing it manually by copying my completed project to a new folder and opening it from there. I was then presented a helpful list of missing files that I copied over to the new folder. Upon reopening the file, I didn't get the 'missing files' list, but a few were still missing: the edited audio files and crossfades. These weren't included in the list and are easy to miss when selecting audio files visually.

I expected the "save project as..." option to allow saving a new bundled project into a new folder, but it only saves a new version of the project into the current folder.

Please have a look at 'Clean up project' from the Project menu.

That's odd since they are just part of the list of audio files.

That's indeed not going to work. You have a project directory and project files. 'Save project as' is more meant to save different variants of the project.

I actually used "Clean up project" the first go around, but may have gotten the number of remaining audio files confused.

I'm not sure why edits and crossfades didn't show up in the missing files list, but I went down the list as I selected the files to copy over and they tallied. Possibly because multiple files were placed in the same track? No biggie in any case, as "clean up" does what I need.

Thanks again for the ongoing support! I hope you don't mind me posting my queries here as I feel it might be of service to the community.

Not at all, I appreciate it!

  • Is there PDC?

Yes, it's in the app's BETA settings although it should work.

Yes, it's in the app's BETA settings although it should work. By default it works for audio tracks, but the PDC option is for instrument tracks.

  • OCTACHRON has stopped working with Audio Evolution Mobile The sequencer won’t run. But other MIDI sequencer AUVs work as normal.

It still works with my other DAWs (NanoStudio 2, Drambo, BAM). Neither OCTACHRON or AEMS have been updated since it was last working. I’ve not updated my iOS (16.7.14) either. I’ve restarted my iPad.

Anyone have any clues? I’ve posted this on the OCTACHRON thread as well.

It’s working fine for me. How do you have it set up?

  • Fine here too @watari_banzai.

  • I have it set up like I always have: In the midi fx insert slot (I tried all three), triggering Korg Gadget's Bilbao, London, and Recife. Also tried it with Koala and the SF2 players in AEMS. I opened up older projects where the combo previously worked and tried setting it up from scratch in a new project. It just won't run :(

  • Reinstalled OCTACHRON, which didn't fix the problem. Reinstalled AEMS, which did. Thanks, guys!

There is a reference in the manual that implies soundfonts can be created with this app, however the link to more info leads no where.

    Is this possible?

Edit; I’ll clarify that it’s the ios version manual referred to above; though I understood the Android version has had that feature for a while.

  • edited February 24

Maybe @dwrae can clarify. I don’t think that function exists in the app.

I don't think that feature exists in the iOS version. There seems to be an instrument creator in the Android version. It's covered in the Android manual.

If you're interested, SFZ instruments are text files that reference samples. You can create them with a text editor. See https://sfzformat.com for more info.

It's only in the Android version indeed and limited to one sample. On iOS you have so many plug-ins that the need is lower.

OCTACHRON stopped working again. Also discovered that Kai Arias' KB-1 didn't send midi to the connected instrument. I had to reinstall AEMS to get them working again. No other midi effect seems to be affected as far as I can tell. I have no idea what I'm doing to cause them to stop working. Anyone have any clues? I have about 20gb of free space on my 5th-gen iPad, iOS 16.7.14

Please next time do not uninstall the app and send me ([email protected]) the project with Octachron if possible. I have Octachron here and an initial test works, but it must be some sequence of events that triggers it.

Will do, thanks! Along with the log file entries from the particular session maybe?

    Yes, that would be helpful.

  • Audio Evolution Mobile Studio 7.1.7 for iOS has been released:

    • This update adds Evolution B3, a new tonewheel organ emulation instrument, and a Rotary Speaker effect. Both are included in one single in-app purchase and cannot be bought separately.
      Evolution B3 highlights:

      • models 91 tonewheel oscillators, key click, leakage, percussion, scanner vibrato/chorus etc.
      • separate upper, lower and pedal manuals with independent MIDI channels
      • full MIDI remote control of every parameter including the drawbars
        Rotary Speaker highlights:
      • models rotating horn, doppler effect, cabinet, mic etc.
      • adjustable slow/fast horn speed, crossover, mic distance and cabinet reflections
    • Unlock the complete sample loop collection in one low price purchase of 4.49 euro ex VAT. This bundle includes all 18 sample loop packs (869MB!), with a wide range of professionally produced loops from Function Loops. Loop packs cannot be purchased separately anymore.

    • BETA: Added a 'Live performance' mode targeted at people who use the app primarily for playing virtual instruments on stage.

      • The feature can be activated in the BETA settings (Live Performance mode (BETA)).
      • In 'Live performance' mode, the app creates 16 instrument tracks (or what you set as 'Initial number of tracks' in the 'Live performance' settings), mixer channels are optimized for arming tracks and switching instruments,
and there is a 'FX stack' option to display the most common effects at once for quick access.
      • Besides this, projects/songs can be added to set lists to quickly jump between songs, including by MIDI CC.
      • Note that this is a BETA feature, please contact us by e-mail when you find issues or have suggestions for improvement.
    • Improved mixer scrolling: now smooth instead of stepped.

    • Added a non-realtime Denoise option to the 'Apply effects' menu item in the audio clip pop-up menu.
    • Added an option 'Display master channel in track mixer' to the Mixer settings.
    • Added a 'MIDI learn' button to the key range option in the MIDI input dialog.
    • Added '-12' and '+12' buttons to the Transpose option in the MIDI input dialog.
    • Added a 'Tube Drive' plug-in.
    • Unfreezing a track while playing could cause a crash. Solved.
    • When pasting a MIDI clip to a different track, the MIDI channel of the note on's were changed accordingly, but not the note off's which could lead to hanging notes. Solved.
    • Added a Spanish translation.
    • Solved a memory leak when loading projects where Soundfonts remained in memory.

  • Damn dude! You’ve been busy! What a fantastic update. Looking forward to digging into it. Thank you for all your hard work!

  • Whoa that sounds like a great update. Does performance mode work with audio, or only plugins?

  • This has provoked me into completing all the IAPs, which I have been accumulating piecemeal for ages as I needed them.

Is there any chance the app could be modified such that it scales to full-screen on an M-series Mac? That would be fantastic.
