A really quick question ( well, actually three )
just trying out this beast. I deleted the audio on a track and when I try and drag another piece of audio onto this empty track it says I can’t because I have exceeded the number of tracks. But, I am still only working within the three tracks - not creating a new track.
Is it not possible to drag audio onto an already created track?
Secondly, how do I delete a channel entirely?
What are the meters calibrated too ( ie are they rms and peak or something else )?
    Thanks in advance.

Long press on a track and you should get a pop-up with an option to delete the track. Importing audio automatically creates a track so you need to delete the previous track to import audio in your situation. Not sure about your other question. The user manual for this app is pretty good.

I’ve been using this for several weeks now and it’s replaced any other DAW I’ve been using. Haven’t run into anything that can’t be figured out and a trip to the manual now and then can be helpful.

They are peak meters. If you cannot use more than three tracks, you probably have installed the app once years ago when it was free to download with an in-app purchase to unlock it. Normally you can drag audio onto an existing track.

Thanks. I was dragging the clip to the start of the track where it picks it up and aligns it. It locks it in and then wants to create a new track with the imported audio. If I drag the audio too far to the left of screen it wants to open my default wav player. It won’t let me drag audio onto an existing track. If that requires a pro update to work that’s OK, but I just want to know if I can do this before the pro plunge. It’s going to get boring if I have to create a new track every time I import audio. Sometimes I like to keep the track settings the way they are, remove the audio and place something else there.
I can drag and drop between tracks without an issue.
Are they true peak or peak? If you ever have the inclination LUFS would be a handy addition to the meters.

  • @dwrae Any issues with iPadOS 26 and AEMS? Thanks

  • In my opinion this is the best DAW on iOS. And it’s been working fine on iPadOS 26.

No problem. I’m using AEMS with iPadOS 26 with no issues so far. Thanks

  • Does this support MIDI plugins? Could I use Fugue Rubato and send the play heads out to other tracks?

It supports AU MIDI. You cannot send MIDI from one track to another though.

  • Wow, I’ve revisited recently this DAW and it is really the best one on iPad OS! I purchased it ages ago along with other big names but none of them really made it for me. Now I played around with AEM and went through this whole thread. Really great work and support from the developer!

The only last piece that is missing to being perfect is recording into plain MIDI track to sequence external synth.

Is there a technical barrier that prevents MIDI thru when the MIDI track is set to rec-armed state? How am I supposed to record the performance when I’m not hearing it? Are there any workarounds except external physical MIDI splitting/merging?

It is possible to record the data but ‘deaf’ only. Playback of the recorded notes works.

I’d like to record MIDI notes live AND hear it in realtime. Routing the audio from the external synth to rec-armed audio track is no issue but the synth has to be triggered straight from the MIDI controller.

    Hi there,

I assume the recording part in "recording into plain MIDI track to sequence external synth" is not the issue here. I have to admit that on Android, the MIDI thru option was implemented but on iOS it is not present yet. There are probably other ways to achieve this like having an other app (like AUM) route the MIDI and setting the MIDI input in AEMS to that app. I'll add the MIDI thru to the todo list and will try to find out if AUM can do this.

  • edited October 2025

Big thanks for both, for considering the MIDI thru feature implementation and for the sideways MIDI routing tip in AUM, I’ll give it a shot.

  • Hi @dwrae.
I have a small fresh UX question. I’m arranging a new project in AEM. I’ve recorded loops in loopy pro, then imported them into AEM, arranged accordingly to the desired track structure and then started polishing. An during this process I noticed several user experience issues that actually make the whole process quite annoying and painful.

    1. I bought vocal studio IAP to slightly fix timings in my loops. It is integrated very nicely and it was a very pleasurable experience. But when I finished it I decided to apply fade ins/outs to remove clicks between the clips. But it seems to reset the result of vocal studio changes so I have to repeat everything from the scratch. And I don’t see any options to “bake” or “commit” the changes made in the vocal studio destructively into the clip itself.
    2. I also don’t see the option of applying fade in/out to the whole batch of clips. That’s strange, I don’t remember I faced such issues before, but right now I was pretty confused when I selected all the clips, used triple dots button under one of them to open the context menu and fades were applied only to this exact clip
    3. Also when you edit the fade in/out time the input field is hidden behind the onscreen keyboard. And if you hide it you won’t be able to return it back until you close the modal fade settings window and open it again

Undo would have hopefully done it. But yes, applying 'offline' fades/cross-fades modifies the actual audio in the clip and therefore the VTS clip is replaced. Only applying real-time automation could be used here.

True, that's still on the todo list I'm afraid.

The downsides of using JUCE I suppose, but I changed some code that will move the dialog. This requires some thorough testing before release though!

Audio Evolution Mobile Studio 7.0.3 for iOS released:

    • Added a 'Project storage folder' option to the BETA settings where you can change the storage folder for projects to a USB drive for example.
    • Added an option 'Input velocity' to the MIDI input dialog which opens a dialog where you can set the input velocity curve. This can be stored either per MIDI device or per track. The 'Output velocity range' option has been removed and if it was set, it is now mapped to the input velocity curve.
    • Many changes to MIDI remote setup:

      • Added Latched/unlatched and MIDI channel columns to support a wider variety of MIDI controllers with different button behaviors.
      • Because of that, 'Play triggers at 127 only' and 'Arm toggles' have been removed since they can be controlled by turning Latched on or off.
      • 'First available input' is now changed to 'All'.
    • When loading a project with two similar USB MIDI keyboards attached, the app should now assign the correct input to the tracks, given the project was saved with this version.

    • Solved an issue with AUv3's not recording MIDI channel pressure, like the GeoShred Tenor Sax.
    • Ported the 'Load Project' and 'Instrument selection' dialogs to JUCE.
    • Solved issues with default note velocity in the drum pattern editor.
    • Mix-down to M4A format with a sample rate of 48000Hz was not possible anymore. Solved.
    • Solved bugs in and improved the Compressor.

  • Trying to automate the TB Filter in an insert slot on a group channel. I used the touch automation button and moved the appropriate slider in the filter but I messed up and have to redo it. Since the filter is applied to a group channel, there's no corresponding track where I can edit the automation. Doing another take via the touch automation button results in erratic jumps because I'm writing new values on top of the previous take. Is there any way to delete previously recorded automation short of removing the plugin and starting over?

I suggest contacting the dev. He’s very responsive. He may show up here, but a quick email will get you an answer.

When you press the Automation button you should first see the lanes for the tracks, followed by your busses/groups.

Doh! I've been clicking the "parameters" dropdown and didn't think to scroll down far enough in the arrangement view to see the busses. Thank you for the nudge and for all your work with AEMS! It's where all my projects end up for arranging and mixing.

  • Is there an easy way to 'pack' projects with all the referenced samples/audio bundled? I want a clean folder with the final version of the project along with all the referenced/edited audio files and none of the unused files/discarded recordings.

I tried doing it manually by copying my completed project to a new folder and opening it from there. I was then presented a helpful list of missing files that I copied over to the new folder. Upon reopening the file, I didn't get the 'missing files' list, but a few were still missing: the edited audio files and crossfades. These weren't included in the list and are easy to miss when selecting audio files visually.

I expected the "save project as..." option to allow saving a new bundled project into a new folder, but it only saves a new version of the project into the current folder.

Please have a look at 'Clean up project' from the Project menu.

That's odd since they are just part of the list of audio files.

That's indeed not going to work. You have a project directory and project files. 'Save project as' is more meant to save different variants of the project.

I actually used "Clean up project" the first go around, but may have gotten the number of remaining audio files confused.

I'm not sure why edits and crossfades didn't show up in the missing files list, but I went down the list as I selected the files to copy over and they tallied. Possibly because multiple files were placed in the same track? No biggie in any case, as "clean up" does what I need.

Thanks again for the ongoing support! I hope you don't mind me posting my queries here as I feel it might be of service to the community.

Yes, it's in the app's BETA settings although it should work.

Yes, it's in the app's BETA settings although it should work. By default it works for audio tracks, but the PDC option is for instrument tracks.

  • OCTACHRON has stopped working with Audio Evolution Mobile The sequencer won’t run. But other MIDI sequencer AUVs work as normal.

It still works with my other DAWs (NanoStudio 2, Drambo, BAM). Neither OCTACHRON or AEMS have been updated since it was last working. I’ve not updated my iOS (16.7.14) either. I’ve restarted my iPad.

Anyone have any clues? I’ve posted this on the OCTACHRON thread as well.
