  • @Kaikoo I think the word is contrarian. Stop what exactly? Do you want me to stop having a different opinion or do you want me to just shut up?

  • Stop to say something dramatical different when someone comments! Leave a space without tentions. I found myself usually not agree to others, but I kept myself quietly because I respect others opinions.

  • This is a public forum. I'm expressing my opinions here. Nothing wrong with that.

  • So just.. wait for next update

  • 1: Auxy should really, really, Really (re)offer full velocity as a Settings option and,

2: It's fantastic that the Audiobus forum is as user-global as it is: A broad crew of characters acting as one iOS-Hive-Mind. I suppose the price for that broadness is the occasional language / semantics / interpretation hiccup but compared to most forums this remains one of the most productive and graceful.

  • agreed ^
This forum is one of the best for iOS musicians.

  • Speaking of Auxy - I find the workflow allows me to do some cool things but when things start to get complex it's impossible to switch patterns manually. I would see this as frustrating for any level of musician. I suggested a song mode to the dev. I'd pay for it. I also think most of their sounds are useful and would gladly purchase more.

PS - I have nothing but respect for those whose native language is not English but still manage to communicate effectively here. I have NO proclivity for any language other than my own. I was "removed" from French class in 7th grade because of my F average and only got through Spanish because our quizzes were exactly the same as our homework so I could write all the answers on my desk. I've said too much....

  • I appreciate that the developers of Auxy are still updating the app, and are continuing to provide great sounds within the app.

Which makes the decision not to be compatible with Audiobus all the more puzzling. I don't use a PC, so all my recording is done on my iPad. If I can't record those sounds on my iPad, then it's like creating a painting with disappearing ink.

  • @Seangarland The top left white square stop turns into red circle record when Auxy is stopped. Once you're done recording you can export wav/open in.

Maybe this time you'll read it.

With respect, exporting wavs is clunkville, and at odds with the clip-launching jamming nature of the app.

They're missing a trick, and without AB support and the other dumbed-down features this is more toy than tool. Shame.

In my opinion it is as simple and as elegant as the rest of Auxy and no matter how much you want AB or IAA you can't make that disappearing ink analogy like @Seangarland just did while knowing of it.

  • the dev told me on two occasions, once on synthtopia and once on discchord that he was going to make auxy a professional app that could be used by more than just those people who've never made music before.
would love you hear anybody's opinion on that.

Do you have a link for any of that?

I'm not making a 'disappearing ink analogy', I'm saying that recording sections as wav files, which have to then be exported, then imported and arranged in a DAW is clunky, and you lose the jamming/spontaneity potential of the app which would be achieved by recording inbuilt instruments and MIDI channels live.

Earlier you were defending your right to voice your own opinion, well this is mine.

  • we have to accept it . . . they changed directions with auxy.

i still like it a lot and hope they will not remove more features.

and it is one of my favorite free apps that i payed 10 EUR for , along with 53 paper ;)

I know that. I didn't say you were making it.

Why would you record sections? Record the whole performance. Especially if you don't want to lose the jamming/spontaneity potential of the app. That's the only way I ever used the recording in Auxy. That's what I believe it is for.

  • you can search synthtopia and discchord if you want, I'm just curious of you guys thoughts. to be honest I didn't think much of it at the time, it was said in response to complaints of some basic features the app lacked when it first came out but I didn't take it seriously.

ok, I'm assuming we may have another language glitch, as when you said "you can't make that disappearing ink analogy like Seangarland just did" it makes it appear you're suggesting I'm implying the same thing. If you didn't mean that fine, we can ignore that, have a cup of tea and move on.

Yes, BUT. You can't record MIDI recordings this way. What's the point of supporting MIDI and internal instruments if you can't record the two playing together?

It frustrates me because I like the drum sounds - simple and clean, so I want to use them along with say, a bassline from Cyclop. But I can't create a recording of the two together without recording them separately, exporting/importing then matching them up in a DAW.

I can PLAY it, and enjoy how great it all sounds, but I can't RECORD the performance. Internal sounds alone don't cut the mustard. So for me, it's a toy not a tool, and because of that I don't use it.

ok well I couldn't find most of the exchanges I was looking for but, check here on cdm
15 post from the bottom, henrik responds to mathieu I think, here's the quote and link

    "Hi Matthieu,

Glad you like our design! We're definitely working hard at making a pro grade product, but we're careful about throwing in all imaginable features because we really believe that a simple design makes a better product if you get the balance right.
    "

check the comments section here, make it easier on yourself by doing a page search for the keyword ' grade'

The whole point of me explaining the recording to Seangarland (again) was that his disappearing ink analogy was wrong. You then jumped on it with your clunkville comment, so I replied to you and brought it back to the main issue - no one should make such false statements, at least acknowledge that before you start telling me again about why you don't like and don't use Auxy

I've explained why I don't like using Auxy - my own completely valid reasons for not using it (you can't record MIDI and built in instruments at the same time).

I'm going to butt out as things seem to be getting a bit weird and I'd rather not fall out over differing opinions regarding one app.

Oh shit @monzo!!! I was just about to reply with a killer comeback and then I saw you edited all the mean stuff out. Good move man! I got nothing now.

There was no 'mean stuff', as you misleadingly put it, I edited it because it was rambling and going over what I'd already explained - your "you can't make that disappearing ink analogy like Seangarland just did" comment that I tried to make peace over and suggest there was a language mismatch between us, but that you seem to want to continue bickering over.

I also said you were "one of the good guys on here" and that I didn't want to fall out over an app.

Anyway, you like the app, I don't. Go and pick a fight with someone else, I've got better things to do.

  • Good for you.

  • This thread has been so emotional.

Starting with the "dickhead" comment last week.

    WTF

    AUXY is intense subject.

Personally, I never have time to use it when I am choosing with all my other options.

    It is on an island.

Not sure if I will ever make it.

SO many apps so little time.

  • I think the auxy devs are nice people, I just think they have a different idea of what this side of their user base thinks of the direction of the app and it's ok it's their app, nobody is forced into anything here, but I think that in the beginning they were a little vague on how much they were really going to cater to this part of the community but it looks like its all cleared up now. they said they were going to make a pro grade app and it looks like they've changed their mind.... changing ones mind is not against the law. Sometimes within my frustration for desiring a certain kind of tool on the iOS platform I forget that.

I read your comment the first time you made it. It still doesn't fit my workflow, which involves Audiobus. You may use copy/paste/export, I don't. The overwhelming majority of iOS apps utilize AB. For Auxy to choose not to is a poor decision in my opinion. Just as everyone criticizes Retronyms for the same, I choose to criticize the Auxy devs.

Your attitude sucks, by the way. Save it for someone else.

  • To see Oscilab attain new midi functionality kind of puts Auxy's development to shame. To defend the developers decision is fruitless, clearly they aim to do things with Auxy, that will cause users of Audiobus and Midi, defined standards, that are still evolving on iOS, to totally dismiss this app, they may gain a greater user base, but then any serious user of this app would outgrow it's limitations.
