Hey guys,
We're getting some mixed feedback about removing the stop buttons. Our intention is, of course, to make the app better over time, and we're pretty happy with not having small buttons that clutter the track titles. Might come up with a better way to get around running out of empty slots in columns though.
About sounds... we had to replace the old sounds since we have rebuilt the sound engine completely. We tried to recreate the old sounds though, and the ones we removed were the ones that we're used the least and we weren't really happy with them.
I know it can be frustrating when products change and that it might sound strange that we cannot simply keep things we've added. In the long run though, keeping backwards compatibility ends up being a huge investment. So in order to be able to move somewhat quickly with a small team and little resources, we decide to sometimes remove things. And sometimes we make the wrong decisions but then we try to correct as soon as we can.
Thanks again for sharing your feedback and sorry if some of the changes cause inconvenience!
Henrik
Did you make a poll by asking major users here? Did you listen for the feedback that users want a audiobus connection for recording? That is called supports! Why you don't learn like @Diode108 did! Don't be a 2nd Retronym!
Thanks for the update @lenberg
You such a dick from my experience when people complain a thing, anyhow, I know you like to make a contrast! You have your own good but don't agitating.
We made our points.
If you buy an app,you buy it for what it is.If you get an app for free, you get it for what it is.
If you encounter bugs, you can report them.If you want new features (audiobus),you can
ask for them.I miss the audiobus-feature too.But this forum is known for being POLITE
and friendly! Not only the notes make the music,it's also the tone.
Thanks for your explanation of why the sounds were changed, @lenberg.
@Kaikoo Why? Because I enjoy the app and I respect the vision of the developers and I appreciate the updates? Because I'm not joining you in complaining about no AudioBus? Is that why you calling me a dick?
I only do complaining to developers! A bit harsh! You are a good pal, no offence and do apology to you!
@lenberg Henrik, I appreciate your response and your honesty. Change happens. We adapt with our hearts or our wallets or whatever. Audiobus however is the elephant in this nursery as regards Auxy. Could you please comment on this?
@Kaikoo Too much coffee there dear Captain, most of us boys don't appreciate the dick-word
But we do appreciate an elegant apology, so good for you
@Kaikoo Alright man, no worries. Let me just clear something here - I don't ever make contrast for the sake of making a contrast. I hope that makes sense.
I just did some scramble fry here! Did any of you have messages why they don't making Audiobus connection? I don't always do complements! I do complains sometimes! I don't just play high tones without low tones, which is my melody! So I do wish you have Audiobus connection plus positive developer feedbacks BEFOREHANDS. I am Richard, so I am Dick too, I like it! I am polite enough.
@Kaikoo Erm. This scramble fry, what's in it? Beyond the eggs. Chorizo? Squid? Bacon? Shrimp? Asparagus? Seriously. This is my area of expertise etc.
Austin Powers: “It looks like a giant… ”

Squid and asparagus together? Don't go rookie on me here johnny.
Ok, let me share some more of our reasoning behind this...
The challenge when building a product is to prioritize and stay focused. If you choose to do one thing, you're inevitably taking time from doing something else. I personally think that the MIDI features are super cool and that's one of the reasons we added them in the first place. However, when we look at the data, we see that the amount of people who actually use the MIDI feature is single digit percentage.
This means that if we spend time working on more MIDI and inter-app features, we're building for a small subset of users, whereas if we work on e.g. better internal sounds, we're building for the majority of users.
Besides, the majority of support questions we get is related to MIDI and using Auxy together with other apps, and this is why we're hesitant to go further down this path.
Given the fact that most people seem to think that it's too expensive to pay $3.99 for the whole app + MIDI features, the business logic for investing more in this area starts to look pretty ridiculous. And this is unfortunate I think.
I should also say that we don't have the intention to replace the sounds now that we have the new sound engine in place. We're not really happy with the drum kits though so we're looking for ways to take them to the next level.
The synth/sampler we have is pretty awesome though so looking forward to release more sounds for it.
Happy times!

@lenberg Understood. And fair comment. So, where does Audiobus fit into your dataset/demographic etc?
@lenberg The single-digit "specialized user" point definitely makes sense so speaking from this minority of users who recognize Auxy is a small miracle of wonderfully intuitive MIDI fun would you ever consider an 'Auxy Pro' option that caters to the (currently) smaller percent of users?
If so you could keep "Auxy for the masses" as simple and inviting as possible while also developing specialized use for us gearheads.
Not only would the "specialized" group of Auxy users be willing to pay for Pro features but looking forward a percent of the entry-level Auxy users will (hopefully) graduate to novice-and-beyond level and perhaps be ready / willing for 'Auxy Pro'.
We feel that there are a lot of other music app makers building apps with a lot of features that cater to the "pro" users, so we're more excited about doing something for the type of user who just wants to have a good app and make some music. At the same time, we're serious about taking Auxy to a point where you can make really good music with it, and thus we're setting a high bar for where we want to take the internal sounds and features.
as i understand AB is a no way, right?
It's definitely on the feature list but not a high priority at the moment. I wanted to share some more light on our reasoning so that you don't think I'm simply ignorant when you ask for the feature.
this is a better answer, at least better than before
Thanks
Lenberg I have a completely different question to ask you, would you make a completely separate app that mimics the basic functions of ableton lives session view........I would pay handsomely for an iOS app like that and I'm quite certain others would too?
Lenberg, I do think it's weird that a music app doesn't see Audiobus as a high priority in development, given how many people who make music on iOS devices have Audiobus.
One day, I'd like Sebastian to share some sales stats with us so we can see just how prevalent Audiobus usage is. I don't think you get to a mass market audience (which is what you seem to be aiming for with Auxy) without satisfying the hardcore audience, who then give you the word of mouth that eventually penetrates down to further demographics. It's kinda like the cycle of videogame consoles in this way - you need the core base to be present, enthusiastic and happy before you're able to break into a different market, unless you get lucky.
As an example, in my opinion there's no way that Figure would have become as successful without the core music audience singing its praises in the first place. No pun intended.
If you add Audiobus, your audience will use Auxy more as a matter of course, and you will also see that MIDI stat start to creep up.
@lenberg: I like the strategy behind Auxy. Think about Propellerhead Reason. In early days, Reason was a unique piece of music software: A slim synthesizer/sampler studio with a huge creative potential. Nowadays it's an over-featured DAW monster that has completely lost his soul.
Mh, I think in terms of pro features, we already have what is most essential: very good midi implementation including midi export and midi sync. Of course audiobus would be a really nice addition but not quite as essential as midi.
@lenberg what surprised me is that the velocity feature disappeared (and we paid for it!), I do appreciate that auxy is not getting bloated, and is even refinded from version to version but it is always sad to see good features disappear.
Hi @lenberg,
I think Auxy is the best midi sequencer if you make it work further! I bought you IAP is because of this feature only! I don't know where your stat was from! According to your mail feedbacks, almost all the qustions was regarding to midi. So where is that single digit contribution says midi feature is not the priority (including Audiobus and Audiobus Remote) ?
People think your Auxy sound is good! I ask you a quenstion 'How good is that be'? Do you want to compete for sounds from all the synth apps to say you are uniquely best? I doubt! Do you want to be a synthesizer? Do you want to be a midi sequencer? Do you want to be a sampler? Or Do you want to be a close environment like Retronym? So instead, Why you don't show up here to do a real poll here to ask! Then you prioritize things from here! What is the objective of Auxy is?
I know you want a simple and clean interface for Auxy, maybe? Perhaps you have being bothered by bringing lots more buttons and knobs to be complex monsters! Yes, you can do a pro version and public free version.
I here again to urge you discuss your future development for Auxy with Audiobus forum users as this place is the core user group for ios music world! All the core things and comments will be digested by Google! Please, what you says here is googled by new users to define what you are and what you will be! Fortuned or unfortuned! Please, @Diode108 by far is the most users friendly developer here! No matter it won't be the magic no. 1! But it will be respected and protected by majorities!
I tell you, you are the most amazing 16 step clipping based sequncer in the world! Gadget can not compete, not to say others! So what the hell you think you are sampler sounds sequenced player? You can be the best ios midi sequncer potentially! Don't forget!
Think twince and don't be shy to ask users here what they want. You can keep your designing for secrecy, in addition to the infomation you provided here!
Regards,
Kaikoo
A MIDI sequencer is not a mass market product. But Auxy aims to be that. It's going to be tricky to cater to hardcore and casual users at the same time.
I kinda like Auxy as it is. In fact I think it Rocks!
Not sure about on my Air 2 but it glitches like crazy when I open a midi app like iprophet on my iPad 3. So the workaround is KISS.
I can record into Samplr or Audioshare for further mangling if I wish, but I like the simplicity of just popping in groovy little sequences with the internal sounds n twiddling the internal fx. It feels old school.
After a day of working with the complexity of Loopy n jamup and drum jam n thumbjam with vocals n guitar thru audiobus : Auxy is a tasty midnight snack with a surprisingly nice aftertaste. Within a half hour I have a cool groove reminiscent of DrDre n his vocalist...
A direction btw, I sure didn't know I was heading..
It's great what we can do on an iPad these days but it's important for my process that I don't lose the forest for the trees..to mixup a metaphor..
Sure , Auxy could be the greatest iOS sequencer ..but at what cost to the ease of its current way of working?
Sometimes , maybe, one box can be enough..
There's plenty of other toys in the cupboard....
IMO....Peace n Out
I'm guessing they are hoping more people will download it, it will go up in the charts, and they will get good reviews.
It's a competitive ocean of apps out there
