My pleasure, was psyched to get ED working in there myself...
Make sure to set the root note on the pads to C1....(selector is a black circle just above and to the left if the pads, will say C3, Modstep default I think, Elastic pads starts at C1)
So @Littlewoodg do you reckon it's possible to trigger ED from IAA midi within MTS then?
I tried before and no go. Someone reckoned that Stoke Machine was the only drum synth that would. All the others want to use their own sequencer when they are IAA.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
I don't know why ED works in Modstep the way it does...I think I tried ED in MTS the same milliionty ways I tried in Modstep (without success in MTS) and I'm pretty sure it didn't work. But I'm stubborn so...also the AB always works in MTS, but don't quote me in the case of ED on that, yet. Stroke Machine! So cool in anywheres!
It might be to do with MTS sending IAA 'start' messages and ModStep not.
Or something like that.
Probly, I recall Mr Bremmers talking about them start messages, note ons and note offs...
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
No luck again with ED as IAA in MTS, but Mr Bremmers comes through with his AB set up, same settings in ED as with Modstep ED as IAA. In MTS, ED selected as Virtual Midi app in midi track, AB audio track for the ED
I have ED on Modestep IAA to play perfectly! It works by using Modstep drum sequencer, let Modstep to set patterns within itself. Just let you know! don't know what the problem with other people! I did not say it before, because I forgot it was ok or not until now I have checked it again! So DrumJam, ElasticDrum, FunkBox, Beathawk all work well on IAA slot from my finding!
Air2 iOS9.2
Also without works without using EDs own sequencer, all note messages and sequences from Modstep, unlike Beathawk, can be sequenced alongside other instruments at the same time by Modstep, also all note and sequencing data from Modstep
To clarify something....
Some of you are talking about triggering patterns, others triggering notes...
I would like to know if you can trigger notes in ED, while the sequencer is empty (in ED.)
If the clock runs or not is not important...
You would be using ED as a sampler, the notes are sequenced in modstep.
It works this way?
(I couldn't, using external sequencer)
Thanks.
Use ED as an IAA sound generator inside Modstep, all notes, sequences all on Modstep track. Emptiness on ED sequencer is a way for this set up. Modstep c1 is your base. On ED side, selecting clock in and note in on any one of the 16 channels.
@soundklinik
Here are the pics for sequencing ED in Modstep as IAA that I posted above, per @cian question, Tues. (is this mic on?)
I included the pics, because midi settings in ED are counterintuitive (to me at least), and there are 16 possible combinations for clock and note in ED and only one works for this
(As @Kaikoo mentioned, and was discussed per another @cian query up thread, base for ED kit is C1, if u set this in Modstep u can use Modstep's pads for live play of EDs kit. The button for setting the note base is a button just above and to the left of modstep's pads, it will say C3 (it's default until u reset).
What happened to 1.0.2?
They said it's been submitted.
According to their FB it was submitted on the 6th and other sites show an average current wait time of 9 days for app updates. I am hoping it arrives before the weekend.
how's the additive synth? do you even use it?
personally I don't love it that much. But have only played around with it for maybe 15-20 mins. Maybe it's the presets that are underwhelming ... have not tried going in and tweaking any of the synth parameters though...
As @JohnnyGoodyear says horses for courses. I'm a big fan of additive...I think it shows devs smarts to include it: it has the widest sonic pallete in terms of timbre with a relatively small footprint
Electrify NXT, the other kickass iOS clip launcher went with 4 op FM for similar reasons, but additive is so sexy. I'm betting folks will warm to it.
So is there a manual or tutorial for Modstep, yet? It's completely inscrutable to me, and is making me feel like a complete idiot. I have no idea how any of you are getting anything useful out of this.

There is one for 1.01 ... It does take some playing with, but makes sense eventually
Silly me. I was actually looking in the app for a manual...
Still no sign of 1.0.2. Surely can't be far off now. I need a less crashy version! Back to Ableton for the day then....
Ah. Electrify NXT: another app that is only available in the US AppStore. I am always confused when this happens, and what the reasoning behind it might have been.
Electrify nxt is abandonware of the highest order... Shame. Never going to support the Dev again at the current rate of no comms, no audiobus support etc
Unavailable everywhere, links from webpage etc are dead in US too. It was pulled by the dev from the store some time back.
Not sure there is a way to support him anymore anyway, whereabouts unknown. I support him retroactively, in spirit: it's an amazing app...I left him a thank you/best wishes note on his apps support page after I referred to E-NXT here, hoping to find out if the guy is still alive...and I kinda want one of the t-shirts,
It's a bummer that it's not available for sale to users now, even in its present version. iOS and iPad caught up to it, runs without fail for me on air 2 at least. Clips render and paste to ACP, Open-In works etc. Though different in so many ways, it's as amazing and nearly as useful in my kit as Sunvox
On an iPad3 and ModStep is still crashing at startup. Really hoping 1.0.2 comes soon and fixes the problem.
I had that problem too so I backed up my sessions in ifunbox, reinstalled modstep, copied my sessions back over and it has been starting fine now.
iPad 3 and have no problems
What is the difference between backing up in ifunbox (which I don't have...yet) and just backing up via itunes file share by exporting then dropping the files back into modstep? Sorry for the questions but I REALLY want this to work.
No worries, I totally understand the trepidation as there was some nail biting on my end the first time I tried it. I just tried it now in itunes and it worked just as well for me.
Did you uninstall after backing up and then drop the files back in after reinstall?
