AUFX and Matthew Caldwell apps not loading. Anyone else see this?
thank you for this, there needs to be many more videos about what the sampler can do
btw I wonder if you've ever sampled your own voice as it's extraordinary
Hmmm, yah AUFX Space does not load anymore. Plus it is shown as being called 'pace'.
I love the ambition of ModStep, but I feel like it is challenging enough without ongoing bugs.
Has anyone had success importing midi clips into Modstep from iTunes or other? Modstep will see my wav clips but not midi clips. I thought after the new update one could do this but I can't seem to figure it out. Perhaps Midi import is still not supported.
Are there going to be any tutorials that anyone has heard of? I've thought of making some myself but not convinced I can wrap my head around this enough.
Need tutorials/videos, too
Hi @cblomert
Is it possible to have ModStep talk back to controllers ? My thinking is to have it control the lights in a Launchpad to match up with the clips display, or to send Midi CC to a mixer with motorised faders (BCF 2000) ?
Can this be done using templates ?
thanks
Can anyone point me in direction of comprehensive and well done tutorial 101 type for MODSTEP?
CREAM as well actually.
I never seem to have time to "Figure them out" as I used to. Way too much going on.
Thanks a bunch for any assistance in finding.
Yes
This is huge and will make a big difference.
1. An easy way to enter triplets and other tuplets. Just being able to change the grid view to triplets would be fine.
2. A better interface for doing more complicated time signatures. I can do 5/4 at the moment, but it's clunky.
3. Groove templates would be cool...
Suggestion: The ability to mark some loops as one-shots not loops. In song mode they should simply play to the end and not loop around if there are longer patterns in the scene.
Is anybody here trying to use Modstep as a live MIDI looper? I am having the most annoying problem- if I set a track's input to the same port /channel as the output (so I can record notes, and play/ loop them immediately on a hardware synth) I get terrible MIDI feedback, completely unplayable. Also happens with IAA, if I have the input channel set to the same number as the output, I get MIDI feedback, hanging notes etc.
It doesn't seem to matter if the track is armed or muted, it's like an automatic MIDI input monitoring that messes up everything.
The only way I can work is to set the input, disarm the tracks output, record notes, then disarm the input and activate the output to listen. If all is well, I can go from there, but if I want to re-record, I have to restart the process again. Boring, and complete buzzkill. I can't do overdubs either. Anybody having this problem as well?
I guess this is more tailored to manual input of the notes, but it's not how I work. Genome does the job perfectly, although the workflow is a bit complicated (you have to expand a clip before recording).
And yes, no Undo is like a bad joke in 2016...
+1
I am having a ton of fun using LP-5 in conjunction with Modstep. It is kind of like having 'audio tracks', very cool.
Hmmm, well looks like the sampler can import recordings now so that is awesome, no need for LP-5 now... In fact all of Modstep is turning out to be pretty amazing. I just got with the step sequencer. this thing is amazing!
@cblomert
What''s the deal with some IAA effects not working? IAA synths seem OK but AUFX for instance won't load and Frobulator and that group of fx freeze my system. Thanks!
@Tau
Did you update to the latest version 1.0.2 yet? This sort of thing should not happen - overdubbing and actually your whole use-case is exactly what modstep should allow. Could you take a screenshot of the general settings and the track settings and send them over?
@anickt
on it right now - i assume it's due to an error in the way we access the FXs IAA - handles. There is a way apple prefers the handles to be formatted, and most of the apps follow this preference, some do not however and that we tried to account for with some changes in the last update. I think we screwed some of the ones that do follow it in the mean-time
@JiggyWig
great idea - will be included
@jimatwood
Sorry, midi im/export is not included yet - at the moment we only export Tracks & Clips in the internal modstep format. But it will be added in one of the next updates.
@AndyPlankton
That is actually possible without configuring a template - all midi mappings done via the global map-menu will automatically send feedback on the same CC/Note number and channel. Most controls just report their value,
Clips have the addition of sending synced on-off pulses while they are triggered. We have not tried it with a launchpad yet, but other controllers worked well
To the general request for tutorials / videos: Working on it!
we'll have some more in depth explanations and howtos soon!
Nice, is there any way to 'zoom' into the the wave-form for more accuracy?
Is there any way to 'trim' & 'normalise' the recordings?
Do the markers 'snap' to any kind of grid?(would be handy for beat-chopping).
And finally Is there a way to record external sources (with monitoring) or is it only all AB/IAA/AUi?
Thanks for making the video
@cblomert WOW, you thought of nearly everything
Now I'm gonna push it ...hehe.....What about colouring the pads based on the clip colour
And for one shots allow them to be not launch quantised, or even better, individual launch quantise per clip ? (I can see the global setting but not one for individual clips)
Snapping would be great for this!
@cblomert
THANK YOU!!
Oh yah, huge thanks! this thing is awesome. Total game changer for me. It ties it all together for me. I now feel i am mostly focusing on music and ideas as opposed to constantly trying to figure out a mobile workflow.
So no triplets I'm guessing...
Hehe - thanks guys! We're really really happy to read that after the disaster on release
@cian
Sorry, skipped your post in my reply - triplets and other grid-sizes will be added to the piano roll in the next update.
Signatures will come at a later date.
@AndyPlankton
hehe, unfortunately no clip colours for now, maybe after we got us a launchpad
but the individual launch quantization is intriguing! quantization to 'None' will also be part of the next update.
@Samu
you can zoom into the waveform up to 1 sample per pixel, but no snap, or normalize yet. trimming is possible - but only non-destructive at this point.
We will add the possibility to sample from microphones, inputs & audio-share in the update after the next (1.0.4), and some basic editing features like normalize and destructive trimming at the same time.
@cblomert
Wow - it just keeps getting better. Thanks
cblomert: No worries. I'm just glad you're adding it.
I love this sequencer. It's just so playful, and flexible and damn fun. But all the stuff you're adding... Just wow.
Have to agree with this, there was a thread not so long ago asking us to give nods to Dev's who give good apps and service, I mentioned Christian (@cblomert) in that thread as the response and speed of development during beta was excellent. I am glad to see that that has carried on and even increased since release. Keep up the amazing work and congrats to the whole ModStep team on an amazing app!
Sure thing, I even made a short video... Where would you like me to send them to?
Edit: sorry, here they are
I don't have a Launchpad yet, but it is my birthday in a couple of weeks and it is on my list thanks to ModStep
, perhaps @Launchpadforios could hook you up
, If not I'll lend you mine for a bit while you make it work
With the individual launch quantisation, it would allow you to have a clip with 4 parts for say Bass set to quantise 4 so it will always play all 4 parts and start only on a 4 part cycle, but to also have a 1 part clip for kick set to quantise 1 that can be started and stopped during the 4 parts of the other clip.
Another idea is to have separate start and stop quantisation for each clip, so that a part will always start on time but can be stopped before the end of the quantisation cycle, a use for this would be when wanting to do musical stops, so having a clip that will only start on the quantisation cycle but that can be stopped before the cycle reaches the end. You could achieve this currently by either creating a clip with the end blanked but you need to know beforehand that you want to do the stop and when you want to do it, you cannot just react and make it so. The other way would be to mute the part before the end, but this won't work for external gear (unless you mute on the hardware mixer) and would mean not using the pads to get the stop to happen.
Another mode that would be good is retrigger, so if a clip is playing and you press the pad it will start from the beginning again based on the quantise setting. This would be used for getting stutter type effects.
Would you like me stop now so that you can get through the work you already have
@cblomert
Feature request: Any chance of having fractional nudging?
The nudge/move notes in a track feature is very useful and its great that it's midi mappable. You give options of 1 to 16 nudges/whole steps. I'd love to be able to nudge 1/2, 1/4 and and 1/8 of a whole step. In percussion this can alter the pace of the music, I've read. I cant see an alternative way to do this apart from doubling/quadrupeling the speed but then the whole bar wont be visible in the step sequencer view.
Ps its a great app
