Great... loving this app..
Ooo, this got through quicker than expected! Mini update 1.2.0 with the new copy/paste functionality now available: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fugue-machine/id1014191410?mt=8
midi channels will be a win for recording into Photon.
Thank you for all of this! AUv3 and Universal were pipe dreams (it's amazing to actually have them), however the scales and usability tweaks are just as fantastic. Also the AU extension takes care of two other wishes I've had for a while: independent loop braces (just run another instance of the same pattern) and saving the playhead MIDI routing with the preset (now it's saved in the host configuration)
But, since you're documenting requests....
These are, hopefully, minors tweaks that wouldn't be a PITA to implement:
-Could you make the transpose bar a little more contrasty? It can be hard to see the markings. This is especially tricky as the transpose bar is the only control that's activated on finger down so you can't "preset" the transposition, you have to get it right when you press.
-With "Note Labels" enabled could the transpose bar show the transposition amount (+1, -1, etc.)? Currently trying to hit e.g. +4 involves some quick counting of hard-to-see markings
-Regarding "Note Labels" could you have a setting to allow the user to set what middle C conforms to? FM uses C6, which isn't common. Typically MIDI note 60 is referred to either as C3 ("Yamaha style") or C4 ("Roland style") a switch to allow those other naming schemes, as well as showing the raw MIDI numbers, would be very helpful when mixing and matching programs
-Could you put the play control for each playhead in the Audiobus slide over panel? While they're in Audiobus Remote, it would be great if they were in the slide over panel too!
-Could you have the ability to set a playhead “on" without triggering? I.e. the sequencer only starts when the global play button is pressed, not the individual playhead buttons. Pressing an individual playhead button merely arms it if the sequencer isn’t already running. This could be a switchable Setting for people who like the current functionality.
Heavier lifts. Probably a long shot to ask for (but crazier things have happened!)
-Exposed AU parameters for the controls. Would be amazing!
-Transpose based on MIDI note input; even more amazing.
-Record input. Being able to play the notes into Fugue Machine would be great. Especially if this recording could happen during performance.
-Have a HUD for controls (See MIDI Designer Pro) - your finger blocks the label. This is especially problematic as the knobs require rotary control, so…
-Have the ability to adjust knobs with vertical or horizontal drag, not just rotary movement
-Global quantization up to full bar / change values only on next Link loop (or define Ch1 as the loop definer) / Cycle mode. The idea here, is that sometimes you want to make a few adjustments and the current quantization maximum of 1/4 note is too short. This could be the global setting, but I think it would be useful to have different quantization values for starting / stopping than for parameter adjustments.
Regardless, thanks for keeping this amazing program going!
I asked this in another thread but I think it was over seen 😁
But the demo using midi control to change your patterns with the PC work around, it seems to be using the stand alone / iaa form of fm...
With the audio unit FM I can't figure out how to create multiple patterns with in one instance...
I tried to create patterns as bar 1 , bar 2 , bar 3 etc... So that I could use the work around to have it change bars which I set up with pattern variation,...
However when I shrink it back down to 1 bar, the other two bars get deleted...
So is this only doable in the stand alone or am I doing it all wrong lol
@aplourde, noted, and very much appreciated :]
Instead of shrinking down to 1 bar with the Loop Length slider, use the Overview View and Loop Brace on the main interface (the long horizontal controls at the top). This allows you to keep the full pattern, but play within the range you'd like.
Perfect!
That deff solved my problem
Just accidentally found out you can use Fugue Machine to trigger the Slate drum kits inside NS2 and get some cool beats going. Pretty. Neat.
Chromatic is the scale and C is the key 🤪
Try it on some SwarPlug tabla in AUM hoo boy lemme tell you what
Hey all, about ready to release another mini update (1.5.3), adding MIDI Channel support to the AU. To get this to work properly, I had to touch the sequencer code, so would really appreciate some user testing on this one. And since the same code is shared between iPad, iPhone, AU, and standalone, using the MIDI functionality in any configuration is helpful.
Here's a link to the TestFlight:

Thanks for the help :]

Hi @Alexandernaut Just tried 4 channel midi channel output with FugueMachine to 4 different synth AU all set to their own channels 1 thru 4 in AUM. All working fine no problems.
Awesome. Thanks for testing :]
Super cool.
@Alexandernaut So is it expected behavior to have to set the AU synth to receive from All FM Playheads in the AUM midi router and then assign the Midi Channel # in FM and in the AU Synth midi channel popover in AUM?
Hope that makes sense. Will try and post a video.
Or is the intention to solely use the new Midi Output drill in to assign arbitrary midi channels based on user preference?
Hmmm, not sure I follow exactly. The AU Synth midi channel popover in AUM only filters incoming midi data correct? It doesn't allow you to change the midi channel of the stream i thought... Or am I missing something?
Let me try and record a vid to better explain it. I may be overcomplicating things since I can assign MIDI channel numbers in both Drill in views. Could just be a nomenclature issue with the two routing options in FM.
And yes, I used the phrase 'nomenclature'
Awesome, a video would be super helpful. And lol, nomenclature is one of my favorite words!
@Alexandernaut Out of curiosity, why are you exposing Midi Routing from 2 drill ins? Is one different than the other? Seems like I can get the playhead to point to the synth from either option...
What do u mean by "drill in"?
And hmm, this is tough to get right! Each port u see in AUM (Allplayheads, playhead 1, etc.) is a midi port. So when sending on the different ports, you can technically send on different channels (which is what it is now).
Perhaps having a single value tied to the playhead is easier though... So for example, let's say you change Playhead 1's midi channel to 2. It would then be channel 2 on the All Playheads output AND the Playhead 1 output. Less powerful tho...
hmmm 🤔
Hrmmm. Now that i think about it. What this allows you to do is use the internal FM Playhead routing for AU synths and the other Midi output drill in can be used to route to external gear which may be locked to specific midi channels.
Cool, yeah. Ok, thanks for the input @echoopera 🙌. I'll likely keep it the way it is, but add some reset buttons to make it easier for anyone that gets lost. Also, I think I'll remove the ability to turn off the main output.
All is well here on my iPhone XR. Had an issue with the AU graphics... but after opening the stand-alone, it was resolved.
Thanks..
Oh hmm, what happened with the AU graphics?
It was only showing like 3 outputs...
Ah, not sure exactly what happened, but my guess it has something to do with the TestFlight signing or maybe has to do with the name change (FM.au -> Fugue Machine).
Hey all, just posted another beta. Thanks to some great feedback, I cleaned things up significantly. Much much better now I think.
And @echoopera, a handful of users asked the same question (why 2 separate choices), and that inspired the change. Super helpful feedback, thanks again 🙌
Here's the TestFlight link again for anyone interested:

I didn’t reread the thread but is there any way to get user presets stored in the standalone app to show up in AU or a way to import a backup into AU? Maybe iCloud or Files access?
Swipe right on the preset and select Copy.
In the destination, select Paste.
You can go SA to AU or AU to SA. Or AU to AU.
If you want to backup/import, I think you still have to use iTunes on a computer.
Thanks @CracklePot. To backup/import, you can also use AirDrop, email, and all the things. Go to More Menu > Patterns > Backups, and tap the share button on the backup you want to share.
Also, just released 1.5.3.
Here's the change log:
