  • Works, thank you @dendy

  • Why does this happen every time i tap on a sample i had imported in the ns2 folder? Its starts the app with this info on top.

  • edited November 2019

Hm.. no idea why is this hapenning.. normally this dialogue appears if you use "open in nanostudio" apple dialogue from other app - NS in this case saves received files from other app into Library/Inbox - if they are audio files, or Obsidian patches into Inatruments/Obsidian/User, or Slate banks into Instruments/Slate/User) - this dialogue informs you about new imported files.

However, i noticed that if you tap on wav file in Files app, which already IS inside NS directory, this happens too (i mean that notification), but file isn't again "reimported" (which is good).

I will ask Matt later, i think it is just some side effect of how Files app opens files in app which owns those files...

Just noticed that there’s no ‘touch’ velocity option for Slate pads unless you choose the single pad view. This is a shame. Obvs it wouldn’t be as good an experience as on an iPad, but I could still differentiate touches between a few levels! Not all of us have meat hooves for hands. :)

  • @Michael_R_Grant

Ha ! Thanks for confirmation i was right

I was strongly for preserving touch velocity at least for 4x4 grid (on 8x4 it was really unusable) but Matt and other evil beta testers were against.

They were incorrect. :D Now I have to edit velocity manually, aaaaaargh.

Shame! I use that feature all the time on the iPad, it would be good to have it on the phone as well.

+1 for Velocity on Slate pads grid, when you’re used to iPhone music making, those slate pads are big enough.

Absolutely would be useable on 4X4 even on my tiny iPhone 6.

  • Please feed this back to Matt, @dendy !

Is there any way to rename the automatable knobs on each patch? I see them called loads of different things on various presets, but can't figure out how to change them from the default 'Knob 1' etc when I make a user preset, and I couldn't find any instructions about it in the user manual. I may be missing something obvious.

  • +1 for velocity on the slate pads. Even if it isn't accurate, I appreciate the "humanization" it can impart to velocity levels.

Thanks for identifying the destination for me! I went on a magical mystery tour to find that screen and eventually discovered it.

For anyone interested: tap Keyboard icon on left side of Obsidian screen to reach the ‘Perform Page’ - tap the 3 lines in right hand corner - tap on the knob you want - select ‘rename’ in the Macro Tools.

Richard...truly love your Factory Presets...any chance you could apply the same love and attention to some Obsidian Patches? I'd be willing to pay for them!

Yeah I think this last point is right. When you copy a file in the files app it’s not physically duplicated until an app actually needs to change it. Which I guess is why NS2 shows the import message even though it appears the file is there already. The file system will let ns2 know the file needs to be copied as ns2 will need to be able to edit the wav files destructively so can’t just use a reference to the original.

Thanks! Glad you like those Factory presets. I'm currently working on some presets for Lagrange, but once they're done I might well do a batch for Obsidian. Obsidian has a ton of potential for those kinds of sounds thanks to the sample synthesis.

A very good friend made me a script which converts the Kit Maker (https://www.kit-maker.com) Maschine library for BeatMaker to NanoStudio 2 Slate format and keeps the correct pad order!

Download the BeatNano script here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/1sjxkgru5vhgwxu/BeatNano.zip?dl=0

I've made a short tutorial video for anyone not familiar with Python and using Terminal etc, and how to copy over the library using the WebDAV in NanoStudio. You can also see how smooth browsing the kits in Slate is towards the end. I made this on macOS, but the process is basically the same on Windows.

    Instructions:

    1. Download and install Python 3 - https://www.python.org/downloads/

    2. Duplicate BeatMaker 2 kits folder to another location

    3. Copy “BeatNano.py” and “Package.slt” files to the duplicate folder

    4. Open Terminal - type “cd “ and drag the duplicate folder to terminal, press enter

    5. Run script with “python3 BeatNano.py”

    6. Copy all library folders to “Instruments/Slate/User” folder using the WebDav in Nanostudio 2 settings, or Airdrop to Files app.

    Enjoy!

    THANK YOU!

MASCHINE KITS ON MY IPHONE.... YOU SIR ARE A LEGEND! :)

Time is a human construct. It doesn't actually exist.

I know this is apparently so, but I really struggle with accepting it. Very odd.

Well, updates may be on a “relaxed” schedule, but NanoStudio released as universal long before BM3 got around to it. Intua has been promising since launch as well, but launched way sooner.

I appreciate the care that Matt puts into making sure NS2 is as solid and reliable as it can be. Props :)

Completely agreed! I was supposed to be a beta tester for BM3 for iPhone. I never got a single beta, and got strung along for several years with promises, until I got angry. At this point, I don't care if I ever see BM3 anymore. NS2 is shaping up to be everything I wanted.

WTH dendy, way to throw a guy under the bus 😀 for the record, touch velocity was pretty unusable with my small fingers on anything smaller than the 1 pad on my iPhone SE. But you rich guys with your 4,7” phablets can probably tapdance on the massive pads for all I know. I wasn’t against that. In this case it was a simple GUI issue that prevented the options, so there’s still hope Matt will change it in a future update.

FWIW I didn’t get the option to set the 1 pad to a fixed velocity, so we’re evenly miffed. 👍

Had some help today from a little friend. Used the OP-Z to create my ARPS and Chords and then recorded them into multiple instances of Obsidian for this little jam:

I’m visualizing this as an infomercial with obligatory hammy over-the-top acting.
