  • @blueveek Your hard work is appreciated. I think a launch-day "free-upgrade" bundle is a good option (if Apple support this).

  • @blueveek I just caught up in this thread and this looks amazing. I appreciated the technical overview of the under-the-hood implementation. That sounds like an engineering masterpiece.

I have an LPX now, but have been tempted to grab a Pro MK3 since they came out. Will Atom make use of the added functionality and controls on the Pro?

I like geeking out on this whenever I get the chance. Nice to see not everybody tunes out, heh :astonished:

Still iterating on the exact featureset. I'm aiming for clip launching parity with Ableton Live in 2.0, though a few less commonly used features (e.g. on the Pro model) are planned for a 2.x update to avoid further delay. Things won't be disabled though, so worst case scenario you'll have to do some manual parameter mapping. I'll mention exactly the extent of supported features just before release.

Very cool! Oh, I also meant to add my voice to those saying you need to charge for this work, or at least provide some way for us to contribute to your beer/coffee inspiration fund.

Since we’re on the topic, which features in the Pro are you eyeing out? This’ll help me prioritize.

If they don't, perhaps Apple would allow you to have a "tip the developer IAP," which would provide zero features — just provide a vehicle for myriad happy customers to enrich your bank account.

  • @SevenSystems is another small developer and he went with a version 2 that was effectively
a new app purchase. I think you should do that and be made whole on this effort.

For the very urgent purchasers offer an intro price and change the price according to your income needs over the first few days/weeks.

The current product has delivered a fair value and some may not be tracking this new work.
There will be a burst of activity when the app drops here no matter what path you take.
It would be a shame for that activity to be a zero boost for your income, IMHO. It creates and incentive to program for some other target.

Maybe it's time to change the name and avoid the Atom vs Atom 2 expectations.

Get paid for the work and hopefully at a level that encourages you to make more products with the same attention to detail and innovations.

    Just my opinion.

Just picked a pro mk3 up today. The session functions seem to not work with the iPad as they are ableton specific. Would be nice to have that mode unlocked for use with the iPad. Which is pretty much the entire bottom row unless you create a custom layout.

  • Capture midi and undo would be amazing as well to control with LP Pro.

  • @blueveek , wouldn't be much easier to let users create custom scripts for their controllers?
That way you would not have to check every controller (especially new ones) , plus old ones could get more functions with custom scripting.
There are plenty users that have experience in scripting (Mozaic , streambyter, puredata ), I'm pretty sure with a friendly API many will dive in

  • @blueveek don't forget that bundles tend to take days longer than apps to get approval. It seems to catch developers out a lot.

  • The fixed length feature is surprisingly useful on the LP Pro Mk3. Two key press clip length setter. Being able to sequence on the LP Pro and print those clips to Atom would be brilliant as well @blueveek

That's the plan. Atom v2 is fully scriptable (more on this soon) and I want to make controller support as easy as dropping in some code a'la Mozaic. Settling on a specific syntax and API that I'll support for the long term is actually the hard part here (probably going to be JavaScript), so I'm still debating whether or not it should be in 2.0 or an upcoming 2.1 update. Of course, supporting all possible controllers is much better if it's a community effort :) I'm not a fan of hard-coding specific controller support, it's not scalable.

Will we have a master track that can trigger the clips within the 8x8 matrix with automatable transposition and velocity parameters?

When I say Atom v2 is fully automateable, I mean it: you can use an Atom instance akin to a classic DAW arranger that starts/stops other Atoms ;) Or you can use Rozeta to do it. Or...

I actually didn't know that, never did an IAP or bundle before. Is this anecdotal or is there some specific limitation that I can learn more about somewhere?

Just anecdotal I think. There’s been about three launches I can think of where the devs apologized for the bundle getting approved about a week after the app launch. Will see if there’s any info out there.

Bundles can only be offered after the elements are listed in the App Store. So, I believe they can’t be set up prior to release...hence a lag.

Well in my poor opinion I think it's not a priority (compared to the actual release!) .

Check the Songkit release thread. That bundle took weeks, maybe 3 or more to come through. Don't quote me on that, I was impatiently waiting.

(edit) Looks like App released on 24 Sept and Bundle on Oct 13. So about 20 days for the bundle to come through in this instance.

This could work though, if it's clear in the description that a bundle is forthcoming which allows 1.0 users get 2.0 at no extra cost. Plus anyone who can't wait another week or would actually like to send some cash to @blueveek for all the hard work can just buy it straight away.

  • I like your logic @SpartanClownTide

    Sounds like a win-win situation.

    👌🏾👌🏾💯

  • My opinion is you should be releasing it at 2.0 and charging everyone for it, no bundle. You’ve worked many many many hours on it I’m sure. If people can’t pay a few bucks for something that they will use for many hours of their own time, it feels unfair.

This truly is a vastly superior product and you should be compensated considering it’s a rewrite. MHO.

“Molecule” works for me. Or maybe Molekewl?
