Very nice update @azul3D_Apps , many thanks. Can I ask if this is the right place to post enhancement requests or do you have a dedicated email / site... Ta

Thanks @GeoTony, for any questions, issues, feedback and requests you can contact me at [email protected]

  • Many thanks for the latest updates!

It seems every time I open this app it has a new feature

Yes. There's a definite feedback loop in force with @azul3D_Apps. I think the "tip"
IAP feature is a great idea... and I hope anyone that appreciates the new features
drops a taste in the tip jar to keep 'em coming.

I haven't worked through the various combinations in a significant way yet and by the time
I get to it I'm hoping there will be more to look into.

  • I’m loving the updates!

New things I’d like to see:

The ability to go back and tweak motifs after the fact. I’m finding that I have to think really hard about which parameters to set in advance because once the motif is generated I can’t do anything to change it after the fact. I often wish I could keep the motif but go back and change octaves or tweak a chord or change the type of accompaniment, swing etc.

The ability to change the amount of swing would be nice as the swing doesn’t always quite feel right.

The ability to add chords outside the key or scale. I realize this would also change the melodic motif to go with the chords but I would expect that to be the case.

I realize none of this might not be possible but thought I would ask anyway.

I’d love to beta test the app if you have openings.

    Keep up the wonderful work!!!

I like all 3 ideas. I usually record PM into Atom in AUM and tweak there, but more initial fiddling would be nice. I often like to use Relative Maj/Min Chords, as well as Parallel Maj/Min, so borrowed chords would be really cool.

    Export of both midi files
    is juice

  • still hoping for harmonic minor....

Hi @yowza. Thanks as always for the great feedback. I'll try to address your comments below.

    Modifying Saved Motifs
Unfortunately tweaking already saved motifs isn't possible. Saved motifs only contain key, scale, time signature and note information. There is no chord progression nor accompaniment information in the saved motif. So the only thing that could possibly be done after the fact could be changing octaves.

    Borrowed Chords
I have implemented some borrowed chords in the random motif generation. These have been carefully chosen trying to maintain the melodic integrity. Hopefully at some point I can incorporate some of these concepts into programmed chord progressions.

You should see the harmonic minor scale mode in the next release! :)

@alancodger currently the MIDI file has 2 tracks one for the melody (right hand) and one for the accompaniment (left hand). You can assign different instruments to each, or mute any of them if you need to.

  • A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.12) is available on the App Store. This new version adds the harmonic minor scale and some new chord progressions.
    Enjoy!

  • Nice... don't forget to "tip" your developer for prompt service.

  • @azul3D_Apps Did you get your hands on some Compound V? Your update rate is wild! Loved PM 10 updates ago, everything past that has been frosting, cherries and little vintage action figures on top!

    Here's a Harmonic Minor workout:

2 variations of output into various 4 Apps (one with an Arp preset to add more complexity) in AUM:

  • First harmonic minor motif it generated for me was so beautiful, Fernando, thank you!

    Same here. Just lovely...

  • Thanks @Mayo for the reminder about the missing harmonic minor which was a relatively easy to implement new feature and brings this melancholic, evocative and somber scale to Piano Motifs.

  • Next, I want the rest of the Messaien Modes of Limited Transposition.

    j/k

    Good work!

  • A new version of Piano Motifs is now available on the App Store. This version has the following new features:

    • Inversions for programmable chord progressions. Please note that inversions are only available for chord and bass accompaniments and not for arpeggio accompaniments.
    • New chord progressions.

    Enjoy!

  • Thanks again 👍

You can get some really nice textures running Piano Motifs in AUM rigs. This AUM project has a lot of Instruments and FX and I get the odd crackle. I change the AUM pattern in the middle of the track holding the F minor chord progression:

Don't forget to tip your developer if the new features inspire you to greater heights.

  • FINALLY! I've been searching for a low effort workflow to generate Piano Motifs variations as files and then load those MIDI files into a player that would play them all at the same time with different instrumental targets in a DAW.

    I've got it!

You'll hear distinct Piano Motifs targets:

    Ocarina (with reverb added)
    Pizzicato strings
    Marcato strings
    Piano

I don't have to stop at 4 and I could use the mixer in the DAW to bring instruments in and out of the mix in a longer piece. I do some of that at the end.

This took ZERO musical theory knowledge and I can claim this as a composition. Talk about
    Imposter Syndrome! Deal with it.

I'll give more details if enough people ask... otherwise I'm going to start a new thread since this one is probably being ignored and this is N-E-W-S for lazy composers.

  • Ha! That reverb on the Ocarina totally takes it to a new dimension.

    Nice Job!

Please add me to the list for your new low effort workflow...

One active reader... I will PM him the skinny if this lies dormant for too long.
    This is Y-U-G-E.

  • Very nice McD! There is a lot to learn from you! Look forward to further explanation of your methods. Thanks!

One more active reader (non-lurker) and I'll write up a status on my search for the perfect
Piano Motifs workflow. Maybe I'll make another SoundCloud demo using synths as targets to generate a massive ambient effect and mix the different tracks in and out of the mix via LFO's. No promises...

You got your one more. Now go put that low-effort workflow!
