Stochas which was a desktop midi plugin had this feature. It was cool. IT's open source now the developer stopped updating it.

One other feature it had was probability with linked notes. This was very useful where, for example, you'd want a double snare hit (a 16th note apart or something), and sometimes no snare hit at all. With normal per-note probability there's no way to do this, but linking notes and setting probability for both/all of them together would be very cool, I think especially for drums, but not solely.

The logical end point of this for me would be to have the ability to set up a 25% chance of playing snare hit on beat 2, 30% on beat 2, 25% on both beats 4 plus 4&, and 20% chance of nothing. Probably hard to implement but would be great!

Thanks for the tip on Stochas. Finally had a chance to check it out and it is very cool! Definitely a very musical take on mutation.

I have to admit that I don't know what the heck everyone is on about when talking about launching - it seems like this is what everyone is using this app for. I mostly wanted something to work on clips away from desktop DAW. I'm not sure if I can incorporate any "launching" in a typical pop/rock structure?
Can I use a physical keyboard midi controller instead of a dedicated Clip launcher?

    Yes

  • Is there a way to type in the number of bars?

Instead of just using the +/- symbols ...

Cause yes - hitting the „+“ button 64-times for 64bars ... I have to admit ... its quite annoying

But I am sure there is a smarter way to do it and I just haven’t found it ...

  • @blueveek
When selecting ‘launch notes or launch cc’ tapping the arrows can take quite a while, any chance of placing finger on the note or number, then sliding up or down to achieve the desired note, number quicker
Lots of other apps have this as a feature

If it's always the same number of bars, do it once and then save a preset. Reuse the preset later.

Use the MIDI learn feature in your host. In AUM, tap the third button in the top left in the window titlebar, pick "Launch" and then learn the parameter. Alternatively, enter "learn" mode and tap on buttons in Atom's UI to learn a MIDI command that controls them.

@blueveek Many thanks for the incredible bundle-price!!!

Are there any plans for a randomize function?

If almost everybody decides to pay 1$ for the upgrade, then who knows! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Very handy tips thankyou.

I use my Launchpad Pro with yahama midi connections. When I connect to the Launch pad app all the light show as they would do in Ableton Live. Can the above video still be achieved using this setup? I only have lightening to usb but without the extra usb port.
    Cheers

A direct wired connection is needed for now.

    I don’t blame u!

But I’d gladly pay $10+ for an IAP that adds some randomize/humanize options that control timing (to move things slightly off the grid) and velocities and strum options to make pianos etc sound more natural after they’re built on the grid. A good example of this is in FL Studio (desktop)

I’d also pay for the ability to import quantization profiles.

  • @blueveek
    Sure will try that
    Thanks

The thing is that I love to work with very long patterns - and that I love to work with uneven combinations - like a 24 bars pattern as a base - and then in combination with a 53, 64 and 79 bars pattern ,,, in order to get unpredictable coincidences while the several layers doing their looping

The progress of choosing the length of the patterns is quite intuitive and dependent on the song and the mood - so it would be great to have a quick and flexible way of adjusting the length - instead of having to save let’s say ... 20 different presets ,,,

What about adding the drambo method: next to „+1 / -1“ we could have a „x2 / :2“ and the symbols could be arranged in a cross-layout with the number in the centre ,,, or in a line - above and below the the +/- symbols

This would allow a quite handy and flexible way of adjusting the length without having to type in a number ,,,

A double/halve function would be nice, especially since there's also a dedicated button on the Launchpad Pro Mk3 for this that I could make use of.

Thanks for quick reply, do you if it is possible to run the Launchpad Pro from mains controller and then plug in through usb lightening, just dont want to do anything stupid. Thanks in advance

All those controls also have slide for entry btw, just tap and drag left and right (not up/down).

What do you mean by "mains controller"? As long as there's a wired USB connection from your Launchpad to the iPad somehow (doesn't matter if there's powered hubs in the way etc.), then it should be fine.

What midi file format does ATOM 2 save as?
it must me ‘1’.. been trying to import a file into Zenbeats.. without any luck..

‘Click 'Import MIDI File' and select a file... Here's how an imported MIDI file (Type 0) will look in Zenbeats: Remember to use Type 0 files. Type 1 files will appear empty!’

Are you sure you're using "Export MIDI" in Atom, and not "Share"? The former exports midi, the latter exports an Atom file that saves a lot more (scales, launch settings etc.).

Happy to - but I’m stuck on iOS 12 still... not keen to upgrade to 14 yet. Any chance Atom2 could run on 12? I believe when version 1.0 of Atom2 was released it said supported 12 - but the update changed it to ios13 minimum. Even if some of scripting or other features weren’t supported on 12 - still be nice to have a “mostly working” version.

Cool, would be great - and thanks for this great tool and your quick feedback

  • While @blueveek scribbles all the requests down in his notepad (including my extensive requests for randomination) remember that we have some really neat midi modifiers on iOS that can then be recorded back into Atom 2. You can use these to transpose, humanize, randomize, etc. Record it into a new pattern and you can still compare to the original.

Right, there where literally 0 users on iOS 12 before the update, so I wanted to be safe. I'm working out the iOS 13 kinks at the moment (and I think I've finally nailed them down thanks to some incredible investigative work by @MrBlaschke and @espiegel123). Once the dust settles there I'm happy to have a look at iOS 12.

Cool! Thanks. Where is the best place to go to learn specifically how to send a CC92 for PlayBeat? Is there a general help location?

Sorry, Atom 2 doesn't send CC's yet. That will come at some point.
You could use LK, or Stepbud to send CC's.

Paid the full price for Atom 2 without waiting for a bundle. Will be paying in the future too come similar bundle vs non-bundle situations. That’s the least you deserve for your hard-work!
