Triggering isn't hard but having more than one loop and the length of the loops would require more RAM which would drive the cost of the unit up. I'm not saying it's impossible because the sampling iElectribe is over $300.
yeah, and ram is cheap. I think the real cost hit would be in development which is wonderful in itself because there is zero need for it... when it comes to sample based beatmaking it's all been figured out, no need for the r&D and everyone knows what works and where the sweet spot is...... we need slicing, we need sequencing, we need time stretching, and some fx..... and the people will add the rest with all of their field recordings, vinyl collections, and plethora of other sample sources they use. There is tremendous value in the concept of a sampling box.
and if you check this great video I nicked from the other thread you'll see it's the only thing Novation hasn't done, I'm sure they don't want behringer to make a sampling launchpad clone when they could be the first and the ones to do it right, at least they don't sound like that type of people in this great vid.
Not the triggering, mind you.... Just the initial load times.
They've already done most of the work.....
keep the form factor of the circuit
add a small screen for waveform view and editing (nothing exstravagant)
same amount of knobs- use them for sample editing, and fx
make it so that each row of pads is by purpose, in that it can either be a sample sliced track or each button in that track can house individual samples, also make it possible to replace a sliced sample on a pad with another sample from your sample banks.
of course follow actions, going from left to right to make it visually easy to see the sample loop play out on the pads
and if they had follow actions going up and down too that would be just nuts, very innovative and a boon for creativity. make them work together.
use the parameter buttons that are up and down the left and right side of the circuit for great functions like realtime sampling where while the sequencer is playing you could press a button have it resample in sync and placed on another pad ready for you to trigger however you want, or slice up..... btw, make all the slicing, loading, and moving around of samples to be realtime accessible so that you can take your productions or your live performances to new heights with on the fly sampling, resampling, and triggering.
use other parameter buttons up and down the left side for snapshots, muting, hit a button and extend the amount of steps, etc.... there are 10 of these buttons, that's 5 on each side of the pads on the circuit and they could be used to a great and tremendous affect on the workflow of a unit like this. for instance 'note repeat'
keep the speaker..... samplist have never had anything like this and would love to be able to be sitting in the park or on the stoop/porch alone or with a friend not forced to use headphones and work together on sample based music.
this would be a first and have an extremely positive influence on the experience.
make the pads velocity sensitive so that we could play in beats with dynamics in addition to being able to build them with the stepsequencer....and make both methods available simultaneously so that we could switch it up the moment we feel, another boon to that creativity...
you could add flash storage like on the mpc 1000, or keep it internal and allow backups through usb.
it might seem like this sounds ambitious but honestly something like this would kill the mpc touch, and I have 3 mpcs and a maschine....., you keep this form factor of the circuit and allow simplist to travel around with a little box like this in their bag, give it midi in and out (class compliant usb and regular midi din) so that it can hook up with everybody's iPhone and iPad and for fucks sake you will change the game. I will pay whatever you charge for it.
I will wear a novation t-shirt and sell these things everywhere I go in los angeles.
just imagine flipping through those Novation like screen modes changing velocities, this, that, and the other on the fly with those pads while holding down a parameter button on the left......and all of this not on a synth but on a sampler !!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! you never had a stand alone experience like this. who would not purchase one. this thing would move like the electribe sampler never could.
even got a name
NOVATION CAMPLR
http://www.residentadvisor.net/images/reviews/2015/novation-circuit-472.jpg
i can't take it anymore I gotta go eat something !!!!!
@kobamoto
^ this guy gets it.. You should send this to novation. I would buy that thing day 1
Add parameter locks and this thing would be unstoppable. Camplr is not a good name though, maybe transistr to align it with circuit
@kobamoto
for the love of god make the kickstarter. i turn to stone and crumble when trying to make music on a computer so i love standalone devices
i feel your pain...... if Novation makes it , the people will buy it.
how about 'the Novation Bento' (frankly I don't care what they called it just gimme gimme ) but a bento box equates easily to a sampler and collage aaaand the word 'bent' goes with circuit as in circuit bent for creating strange and wonderful noises. Kinda has a ring to it.
Just a heads up Robotspeak in SF has a few of them..Also I met the guy from Novation and he was saying they are working on something where you'll be able to make/import your own sounds. I believe it was with Max software.
interesting, I'm a huge Arturia fan with the exception of the spark, but it will be nice to see what they come up with.
It amazes me when sampling takes the back burner, sample based music is like nothing else cause you can go to something beautiful from dead scratch or you can be inspired by something that you sampled and turn it into something else that inspires you even more there's nothing like it in the way that it can appealsto synthesist and non-synthesist alike
sorry I meant Novation!!
what Novation?
strange Launchpadforios didn't mention that now I'm really curious!
Yes, they'll be releasing something that allows you to create your own sounds, save patterns and so on.
lmao me too! I feel like a robot

I got my Circuit last week, and just posted a video review if anyone is still curious about it:
The editor looks nice. If Novation makes it for iOS I will reconsider buying Circuit. I will never understand why they did not add a simple LCD screen.
I don't think it needs a screen.
The editor takes this thing to the next level though. Anyone else creating their own presets? I was wondering whether or not to roll with consistent macro controls.
I've started on a bank of presets for this one. I'm gonna do my best to fill up those 64 slots with some, hopefully, decent stuff. Many of the factory sounds are....mediocre, which really isn't a good thing on a groovebox with only 64 presets. Having had a look at the editor tho, it's a very capable engine, somewhat hampered by the 6 voice poly (which I constantly gets reminded of). After I'm done I'll prolly get rid of it, I just can't get along with using pads to play on (altho I might grow to like it while making this bank...altho then again I'm using my master keyboard hm..)
Edit: By the way, as for macros, so far I'm mapping things that makes sense for the presets, so I'm not doing the "happy accidents" stuff Novation are making a thing of with their presets. I kinda feel that it hampers the flow when you have no idea what the knobs will do, and gotta memorize it. When I dial up presets, I at least wanna be able to guess what some knobs will do, if that makes sense...
I got my shiny new Circuit yesterday and it is awesome. MIDI implementation looks very comprehensive too so I look forward to digging deep at some point
Oh and I sold my Electribe 2 on eBay which spookily was bought by one of the iOS music devs. Small world.
would love to know how good it works as a midi controller, especially controlling ableton live among other things
What do you want it to do? Currently the Circuit has no "dumb" mode so you can't use it like a launchpad for example. But it can send midi notes and controller messages either manually or via the sequencer.
I would be surprised if Novation don't integrate it more in the future. I have a Circuit and a Launchpad Mini, best of both worlds!
i'd be satisfied with just being able to turn down the volume and assign all of it's knobs and buttons to whatever I want in ableton and use it that way if possible
I wish my launchpad had a bunch of knobs and faders
Exactly, which is why I was think of having standard macros on the first 4 knobs say (filter, res, envelope, decay / release say?) and leave the other 4 for experimentation. That way I know my way about for standard analog tweaking. Otherwise I'll have to keep a notebook!
I'd like to make a poor mans push, as I wouldn't want to take an actual push out anywhere
No problem there. The CCs of the knobs are fixed, but you can reassign in Ableton.
cool thanks, I'm surprised I haven't seen any videos of anyone using it that way yet.
the pads are velocity sensitive right
is it possible to change the midi note on the pads?
