Haha! Thanks everyone who commented on my demo.And oi @Richardyot leave my watch alone!!:D best £10 I ever spent!! I thought if anything,you'd rip the piss out of me for having a "Lego Batman" sticker on my uke!!:D
@rkmonkey , @richardyot, @johnyygoodyear (Mr "Where are the Vocals?"), @Bluepunk, @AlterEgo_UK, @LostBoy85, @eustressor - thanks to all of you for your kind words...
@Igneous1 - thanks also for your feedback - glad you like the chord progression. I think your feedback is very 'on point'. You're right about some of the timing being loose - actually it's the main lead melody (which happens at the start and then repeats at the end). I played this live in Animoog (midi recording into MTS) and when you look at the midi on one particular note i'm quite a way off - probably a couple of other points too (and none of the notes are quantised).
I was vaguely aware of this but only after i'd recorded this track to audio (while messing with Animoog's knobs) and to be honest I was too lazy to go back and do it again because it had taken a fair few attempts to get the live Animoog knob modulation (filter and crush) how I'd wanted it.
I also agree - as i think @JohnnyGoodyear also points out - that this one doesn't really build. Again - slightly laziliy I just repeated the main lead in the second half of the track - with some added ad-lib stuff with a different patch that precedes it. By this point (does anyone else get this?) I was kind of loosing interest in the track and just wanted to finish it. I didn't really feel I had the creative strength to work out another 'finale' part which wouldn't ruin what I had .
Part of the point of this track was actually to try out a completely new workflow in MutliTrack Studio. Occular and Vegas were basically recorded as live jams - and not even mixed or mastered really (just the master track stuck through MasterRecord I think). So my aim with Swiftly was to keep the same kind of set-up (Animoog led, with a live noodle feel, same kind of tempo) but make it more as a controlled studio piece in MTS.
It worked out ok, I had the control I wanted by playing everything as midi into MTS and then playing it back and recording to audio while messing with knobs in Animoog and Sunrizer track by track. Same kind of thing with DrumJam. Patterning I just flicked around Patterns live and that worked well too. And it's all EQed, compressed and sent to reverb with MTS internal effects modules.
So all in all a workflow success... although I guess it's a little less immediate than Gadget for quick changes and very quick composition etc...
I'm going to attempt to release my collaboration with LostBoy85 this month too... I just need to get that one out there cos it's been 95% finished for a while now.
And i'm starting on some more up tempo stuff back in Gadget now... I think the "Animoog EP" might be done now .
Thanks! It's interesting that some people here are saying the track is a bit long - 6 minutes is on the short end of the spectrum for this kind of music... I wasn't intending to make a radio edit (which I could I guess...)
Hey, @AlterEgo_UK, can I presume from the guitar in your avatar that you're not responsible for the this all time classic from 2004?!:
@Simon_Acetone: You presume correctly! Although my music covers a multitude of genres
@Simon_Acetone welcome aboard. I enjoyed how you began with a little tribal type rhythm at 0.32 then kicked in with your dance riff & beat at 0.53. A good solid back beat with some crisp hihat flicks throughout. I liked all the transition from vocals into the music & beat sections. They worked well & as I wasn't expecting this style when it started, was a big (in a good way)surprise.
It's a top tune that forced me to have a wee jig around to its groove.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 Had another listen this morning and feel as positive about the vibe/feel as I did yesterday. Just very wistful (which in my language is one of my top positives . And, yes, I know I'm a bugger about words. Just my thing is all. BUT on that subject, why Swiftly? Doesn't matter a jot, just interested.....

Nice one @Bluepunk, thanks a lot :-)
I lost my father to pancreatic cancer, one week ago today. I wrote this song, "No Fear To Bleed," for him during his battle, so its definitely more of a fight song than a sad song. I recorded this video this week, part tribute, part therapy.
He fought with courage and was an inspiration to other survivors. The fight will continue on in his memory. I tried to reflect these themes in the lyrics.
Coincidentally, I performed it on ukulele, so I think this qualifies for the ukulele walkman challenge
@gburks sorry to hear about your father.
I like the song, and although the performance is a little ragged I like the energy and honesty of it - the intro could be a bit shorter, that would probably be my main crit. But there's definitely a good song going on here, especially the rising and falling dynamics and the energy of the last chorus. Good job.
@gburks Yeah. Good effort. There's a finished, big production, full-on, anthemic thing in here and this is a great demo. AND I don't know why but I love seeing, you know, a real piano being played. I want soaring harmonic backing vocals and real power etc etc
Good tribute to your Dad also.
Hi @gburks .
Very sorry to hear about your dad. Must be very tough.
I really like the track, great performances too. A really nice tribute and a great song in it's own right too.
@LostBoy85
Great demo. I love the words to this one. Really clever and funny.
Nice musical structure too. Simple but effective.
I'm thinking that I do actually have a uke knocking around (not that i've ever played one) so maybe I should do something like sample it for a track this month... Or maybe not!
Well, entries that don't feature a ukulele this month might find themselves disqualified. Unless they were recorded on a Sony Walkman or while wearing a Casio watch. Judges will exercise their discretion at all times.
Ill have to mend the strap on my Casio watch then.
@Simon_Acetone
I really like this... Very accomplished really. I would agree it's a little too long... It's not really a club dance track to my mind. To me it sounds like more like an album track on something by the Shamen or something (but not that)... (that's meant as a compliment BTW). So therefore I think the point is probably best made in 4-5 minutes.
Anyway... I really liked:
the overall mix - sounded great to me - and if yu cut all those sound samples up to under 5 seconds and triggered them in Gadget then good on you!
the effects on the voice - I think they work TBH
your mate - he's got a great voice and a great turn of phrase if he wrote the material - it's good stuff
the words - Johnny is quite right... it's very close to the stuff we hear all the time - the stuff about young people getting the raw end of the deal is very on point I think. The stuff about being all too aware of the (social) problems and doing absolutely nothing about them... It's depressingly true IMO.
good sounds from Gadget. I take it you spent a fair time making all your own patches in Gadget?
Basically, it's good.
I guess if you want a criticism then for my personal taste it could have been ever so slightly more adventurous, modern or interesting musically(you have the talent, obviously). It seems to tread a slightly well worn (although perfect good) path musically but that's just a taste thing (if you like that style then fair enough).
And TBH this was always going to be all about the words...
Thanks very much @Matt_Fletcher_2000 !!
Here's some answers to your comments:
You can thank my brand new Pioneer HRM-7 Studio Reference Monitor Headphones for that.... Amazing cans for just £109.00 - I was recommended them by a world famous DJ & producer and they really are THE SHIT. He swears blind they are as good as £2000 cans.
No, the music was imported into Cubasis and mixed/produced/etc in there, and the vocal was recorded and edited in Cubasis too
Thank you, I think you've convinced me to leave it as is
I will pass on your compliments
Exactly... Too many people are afraid of making music that's overtly political, but given the current climate I thought why not?!
Nope... Patches? What dem?! I use quite a lot of automation of filters etc in Gadget and then add more effects in Cubasis
YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ME BLUSH
LOL
YEAH BUT WHERE WAS THE UKULELE?
It's buried quite deep in the mix....
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
Thanks buddy! I'm glad u like the lyrics.
@gburks
Dude,u win the Uke competition hands down!!:) great song mate,well done,varied and interesting.

@AlterEgo_UK
Sorry mate,I initially missed your comment.Thanks very much!:D
@gburks great tribute to your father. Great passion and the uke to boot. Peace brother.
@gburks: interesting instrumentation, good song and video, with passionate lyrics and a fitting tribute to your father.
Wow, quality Matt
I agree, this is the best thing you've done so far
Very very nice ambience, sounds, very drifty
Overall quality of production crisp mate
Well fucking done!
Starting a side project called "Infinity Flames", geared toward a harder, moodier sound yet retaining some atmospheres. Drawing from my original influences from Detroit and euro techno from back in the day
This is a demo of the sound I've developed for this project and not a finished track, just to give you an idea
Gadget used exclusively as always
@touchconspiracy - wow. Thanks .
@touchconspiracy cook driving track. Outside of my ability to make suggestions. enjoyed it.
Thanks for listening !
If you have suggestions, don't hesitate to try express them..good to hear from different angles of vision mate!
@gburks so sorry to hear about your Dad. Sad times. Your song is a fitting tribute & very well played. Great to hear (& see) the energy flowing throughout & in parts it reminded me a bit of Hue & Cry. I liked the bongos which gave a different texture to your tune. Great song.
@Bluepunk thanks for your earlier comments mate.Im very much looking forward to your track this month:)
No pressure of course...
