@Matt_Fletcher_2000
Hi Matt, I'm glad you took my criticism in the constructive way it was intended. This SOTMC club is an unusual venture in that constructive critique is encouraged / welcomed.
I don't think it helps anyone when 'back slapping' comments prevail. On a technical level, there's always things that can be addressed (for anyone) The SOTMC certainly beats Soundcloud hands down in that respect
@touchconspiracy sorry, this one wasn't really my cup of tea, I found it it bit too hard sounding for my tastes, so I will recuse myself from commenting since it's probably a matter of taste/genre etc...
My pleasure @LostBoy85 you have a naturally wonderful voice that I'd like to borrow! Mind, with the style of music I enjoy making at the moment, it would probably be wasted!
"1, 2, 3, 4 scream, shout, expletive, repeat." I'm even finding THAT tough to do this time around!
Interesting and useful response because I too generally won't comment if something is not my cup of tea because I feel it's best not to give negative feedback, especially if there is no serious friendship or professional relationship
The way I see it is that everyone has different tastes, opinions and perceptions...
As far as my own tastes go, I like electronica from mellow ambient to about as hard as the track you just listened to
If it's harder than that, ie hardcore gabba or seriously grungy neurofunk dnb, my ears just cannot handle it
In general I'm drifting toward the more atmospheric emotive electronic moods, kind of trancey but not like the pop stuff from tiesto, his brother hardwell, and it will always have a techno edge cause that's what I grew up with and love.
The track submitted was highlighting another side of my output and will not be the dominant one but I did seriously enjoy revisiting this style ..it wakes me up.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to listen mate!
Well I don't normally shy away from being critical, but I really felt this was a case were I couldn't really be objective as it was probably the genre that was off-putting rather than the musical content. I've enjoyed some of your recent work so it was probably a case of "not this time".
@Matt_Fletcher_2000: I agree with much of what others have said here. The tune has a lovely chilled vibe to it. Enjoyable melodies. I enjoyed the contrast between the ethereal pads and leads and the sometimes busy percussive parts. Nice use of reverb sets the piece in a nice space.
Okay, here's a quickly thrown together mindless piece. Used Patterning and Fugue Mahine and other stuff. No singing, no melody, no destination, just jamming I guess.
@NoiseHorse many interesting parts. A lot going on. I was hoping for an intermission somewhere in the middle. The last minute gives a bit of a breather. Like the piano and guitar the most.
That's cool mate, no worries
@rkmonkey thanks. My songs used to be very simple, but since I got the Audiobus set up I hear a lot more stuff in my head when I make something. The piano is 2 pianos: iGrand and iM1. Guitar goes thru AUFX Dub which I could play all day long. I wish I could write cooler stuff like Matt Fletcher 2000, and those techno wizards like him, but my ear is more old fashioned I guess. (I put the intermission at the end because everybody expects one in the middle.)
@NoiseHorse It IS a jam and it DOESN'T go anywhere and so on and so forth, but I really like the atmosphere/feel/call it what you will. It has a lively mellowness (unusual combination .

I am the same. I record jams and songs that are more often creative chaos than songs with traditional structure. Your tack is plenty cool. Matt hit it out of the park this month.
@touchconspiracy I don't know much about this type of music (my ignorance & maybe age) but sometimes I like a tune that I can easily tap along too & makes me want to dance. Your song achieved this.
I liked the section 0.58 to 1.27 where the riff stops briefly then starts again. I was expecting it to carry on through so it was a tidy surprise. Nice bass sound coming it at 1.55.
This is one of the great things about this Club. I get to listen to many different styles of music that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. It has certainly broadened my listening habits & appreciate other types of sounds & genres.
@NoiseHorse in many ways your track is very musical, there's certainly a lot of music going on, and it starts very promisingly IMO. However, as you probably suspect, the structure does let it down, partly because all the new parts simply get piled on top of the existing parts, nothing ever gets removed, just constant additions. So it ends up getting very busy and there doesn't seem to be any thought as to how all the various elements should relate to each other.
The rhythm is also pretty disjointed for me, and doesn't really sit right with the mellow sounds. I definitly think this would be better if there was more thought put into the structure and if the track had a sense of evolution and story. With the right editing and arranging it could be quite a beautiful and chilled out piece of music.
Thank you!
I'm 45 but still doing this lol , was there in the acid house days..still am there
I don't dig recent edm like electro house, pop trance or dubstep much, I like to think I'm "post old school rave" I'm some respects
Appreciate ur comments a lot!
@touchconspiracy: a great rhythmic base and framework on which to build
@NoiseHorse: some nice musical ideas in there but, as @richardyot said, some judicious editing to remove some of the clutter in places would improve it a lot. Also a rhythmic element that helps bind it together and give it more structure would be another suggestion.
@touchconspiracy Hey man,it's great to hear stuff you're currently working on opposed to older tracks.I liked the moodiness of this track.Fave bit was the start, nice moody bass and I also liked the sounds In the last 30 secs or so:)
@NoiseHorse Hey dude, there's definitely some good stuff to be found in this "jam session" that could be developed further,it's a little "jumbled/busy" for me but I sense you were just having a good time jamming. Its great that you posted it mate, keep 'em comin!:)
Right then peeps, this is my track for this month. Thanks to @Richardyot and @Jocphone who after hearing the rough demo encouraged me to play my uke on the main song,I would never have entertained the idea otherwise and I had a lot of fun doing it!:D
This is a song I wrote about an old buddy of mine who was & probably still is a mega hit with the ladies, but for all his looks and charm he was also a complete plonker and let's just say the guys got some great stories!:)
Apps used,drumjam,figure,IM1,tiny bit of sessionband, auria, audiomastering and vocalive.
@LostBoy85 A veritable Uke-opera matey-boy! I wish in a way you'd never told us about your boy-band past (s'alright, we're all friends here , because I couldn't help but see you belting this out on stage with suitably tight threads and a writhing teenager-mass all weeping and bawling. And nothing wrong with that
Good work, and it won't surprise you to hear that my favorite bits were the side-comment/vocals in the background which added commentary and a wink and a nod to the whole process. You do have a way with structure. 'Classic' in terms of verse/chorus/8 etc and pull it off well within the genre.
If I had anything useful to say it might be that it feels, production-wise, a bit 100% almost all the time and might benefit from a bit of variance, but I think until the studio calls you've got a great demo of your chosen piece here.
Thanks mate !
Thanks mate , I only posted one older track..all the rest were done recently and all gadget
Yes it's more moody than my usual
Glad I checked this out mate, it's good. Very cheery and I like the uke actually
You have a very good coherent and tuneful voice and the final mix is clear and balanced imho
@LostBoy85 you must have a blast recording. Smooth and great production.
@LostBoy85 definitely a step in the right direction. Will give proper feedback at the end of the month, just wanted to say top marks for trying a new approach.
@touchconspiracy my bad,I had it in my head that you posted more than that.
Thanks for your comments dude:)
@LostBot85: ...and the diamond shines through! Great job on this. You turned it into a really good pastiche pop song with a catchy chorus and polished production and everything!
@LostBoy85 very very good, probably your best yet IMO. Really nice production, great arrangement and structure, love the way the song ebbs and flows, fantastic vocals and great melodies. Great backing vocals as well, they add some lovely textures to the song.
Most of all though, I really like the ukulele, it adds another dimension to the song, and you play it really well. It really feels as if you've put as much thought into the music as the vocals this time, and as a result the whole track gets a lift.
My only crit is a technical one, I think there is a smidge too much top end on the main vocal (a slight harshness), it might be because of the internal mic on the iPad though.
Maybe something like this should be on your xmas list:

@LostBoy85 "Aim to please?" Of course you did. You consistently do. Simon Cowell said on Saturday night when commenting on one of the singers that the sign of a good artist is when you listen to a song, you know who it is. You are one of those that he was referring to.
A happy, cheeky song with your voice producing yet again that distinctive wonderful tone which coaxes your tune merrily along its path. Your backing vocals are an added bonus for me & work very well. The ukulele playing & sound is fabulous & I'm sure Mr Formby would be putting a big thumbs up for its inclusion into one of your songs.
Yet another radio friendly pop hit from your stable that has all the ingredients measured out correctly & mixed gently by hand, not a heavy duty food processor. I still have a soft spot for Moraira Sky but this is running it to a photo finish. Now, is there a new location to add to the list of "I sang this in a ........." Another hit pop pickers!
Here's my entry for this month. As usual, created entirely in Gadget, mastered on the desktop - Har-bal, FLStudio, Loudmax etc.
It took quite a while this one, it may not sound like it, but I was endeavouring to get it to 'flow', primarily. If it sounds like a mad thing at first, it may (or may not !) make a bit more sense with repeated listenings, as it is pretty oblique / dense.
