The Surface Pro 4 specs are killer! The same as my laptop! It is a beast!
What if Apple were to have matched these specs on the Ipad Pro personally I would have been elated!
The Ipad Pro is basically the Ipad Air 3!
Is Apple guilty of planned obsolescence?
Should we as consumers petition Apple to make mobile devices with better specs?

Do you really want discussion on this matter, or is this just a click bait thread? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the intention.
To my mind, they are 2 very different devices and only the market will ultimately decide if there is call for both of them.
Now if you asked, should we try to express to Apple that we would like more choice in the spec of devices made, I could understand that. Don't forget though, the cost of the higher end Surface Pros are out of reach of comparison to the iPad Pro. Remember there is more to a useful device than specs.
lol Google Windows Tablet and music apps and see how little there is.
Apps for the iPad Pro are low cost, plentiful and fully touch optimised. Can't say the same for the Surface Pro.
The only spec in there that's interesting to me is:
I wonder why MS decided to put the higher MP camera in the front? Have we really lost our collective selfie mind so severely?
Microsoft cares deeply for the naked Skype market.
I don't agree with his somewhat intemperate language, but I think this forward-looking statement still applies...

@JohnnyGoodyear
Bill pretty much said what I was going to.
Software it is. Touch software, here. I found an approach on iOS 9, air 2, that gave me results that blew my mind beyond repair. A crash free 6 app live network, with a 7th app (and 8th really) for filing/file transfer. Part of what is cool here is all them apps flowing together, (all praise AB, really). The set up let me use the wildest CPU munching thoroughbred iOS synths, in which I've invested so heavily.
Right around the time I found a method I'd been looking for since iPad 1, I had a look at the next one of several big iOS DAWs on the horizon. Then Bitwigs touch version went live and I bought a Surface Pro 3, (which cost about what I paid for my air 2).
I already owned Bitwig. The math here is that Bitwig does what everything 7 of the 8 apps are doing. That is it in a nutshell: I had the software but hated using PC, as I was literally always pawing the poor last gen laptop screen thinking Bitwig would respond the way DAW and synths respond on iPad. Now it does, beautifully as does the PC version of MTS, which all-in costs about twice the iOS version but does at least twice as much. And there's Stagelight which is priced (and price modeled) like an iOS app, and is quite amazing, and not just because it's a twenty dollar app that hosts Bazille, Serum etc. And there's Sunvox to rule them all, which is free, like a ton of amazing software for PC, like Crystal, Synth 1, OBXD, Hornet, Scythe, all the CM freebies...
“Keep clear ‘o the moor.”

I have no idea they what mean with tight nuts. Some native speaker has to explain this to me, lol.
Show me a single app for the surface to touch Sector, Samplr or Patterning, in terms of elegance and performance w/ touch, and I'll entertain the idea.
It's also important to recognize that iOS is highly optimized to perform smoothly, coolly and for 10 hours, with a fraction of the specs.
Show me a Windows tablet that can run 2 samplers, a softsynth, and an effects suite into a DAW, without performance or overheating issues.
The most glaring difference to me is the storage space. 32GB from the company that defined premium computer hardware? It makes no sense to me. And it is the one factor that compares exactly to Windows. iOS cannot optimize 32GB to be more than 32.
Here's a little iPad Pro scenario: i can render 3 streams of 4k video simultaneously! Amazing... But how many minutes fit on my 32GB iPad? So I run out of space and have to offload it to iCloud. Or transfer it via USB 2.0 speeds to my computer. Utter lack of "premium" or innovative features in storage space.
Meanwhile Msft starts at 128GB which happens to be iPad maximum. Hmm...
All that said, If I had the funds, I would go buy an iPad Pro 32GB tomorrow. I'm sold on the joy of touch music and iOS is doing it better than anyone else so I'm stuck with it. And overall, things work and you can have a lot of fun making serious music.
I think that should be no problem since even my mid speced Macbook runs several instances of Kontakt plus Omnisphere multis etc.
There are already tools which do things and a lot more like sector, patterning etc. Then most iOS apps are still half baked tools ....bla bla bla..... IOS smoothly? Not for me, sorry! But every OS is beta today of course!
But really, another vs. thread? For the pure touch the iPad wins for me and the specs are not bad for a tablet. But also nothing special for a huge tablet today.
Just get your device of choice and tools and create some mucic folks
Man, it would appear the new guy kind of got jumped on. Don't take any of it personal @oldschoolwillie as you will learn pretty much all jabs here are playful and not vindictive. Well, at least that's how I see them. Maybe some of you really are seething.
i plead ios fanboy in the 1st degree. personaly i dont even register who says what most of the time and am just ussualy replying to the void.
I use the front camera on my iPad far more than the rear. Skype for work and FaceTime with overseas family. I'd actually prefer the better camera in front for a tablet and I must not be alone. I wouldn't want that for my phone though.
Yah i guess that makes sense the larger the device the more you may want the better cam on the screen side. People are probably less likely to be taking snaps with a tab then a phone.
@oldschoolwillie Apologies if required. Let me mind my manners a little here. Normally (mostly) do our best to welcome folks a little better than that. Must have been something or other that caused a few of us to retreat into our defensive shell just a little
yes the specs are better, yes apple tablet users would love to have those specs, no apple won't give those specs to their users, no apple won't allow iOS and OS X to be run together, yes if they did that would make apple customers so very happy, no that happiness is not a good enough reason for apple to allow this, yes ableton live and bitwig can pretty much do almost anything that one could want, yes people are invested in the apps even some doofuses had the nerve to buy 560 apps and run them on an iPad 3 like a nut, yes that same nut wishes he had a surface but the surface is too big and so the nutter got a iPad mini 4 instead, yes i lost the point of my post....
I agree with Mr Cinebent. But I wonder if Apple would change the spec what we all been wanting, if they come last in the sales v.s competition in a years time? But yes, all we musicians( good, or bad) want a super duper iPad for our musical creations, but in Apples eyes, but are we the money making majority? NO!... I don think so?.... Apple doesn't seemed too threatened at Microsoft, Andriod devices, or there continuing IOS fuck ups. Until that happens, " Let The Show Go On!!"..... iPad Pro is an expanded iPad Air....... That's all!!... Not enough to call it a Pro. You cannot expand it, or write your data to an external hard drive. You can with the iPads competition. It's the same system as our iPad Air series, but a slightly faster CPU, & A little more Ram, with a slightly bigger screen........ Woooopee Dooo! If you want to make music as a sketch pad, and a bit of fun, with reanalysed priced apps, stay with Apple........ Want too really go "Pro", get Surface Pro 4....... Or just stay with the Laptops(MAC or PC).......... Do you think Ableton will make it on iPad, or Omnisphere 2........... Enjoy what you have. Make the best songs you can, and enjoy doing it.......
Speaking about iPad hardware I've mentioned this before but specs are not everything. Real world performance is what matters. Apple's custom built CPU and OS otperform Intel despite Intel CPUs having a higher clock speed. Reviewers last year said the Air 2 was the fastest tablet on the market.
like other posters said, it's about the software. currently the touch software for iOS is worlds better than the surface. bitwig is a big step up for the surface and may be powerful enough to be worth switching, but it's still pretty lonely over there...
It's not about the device. It's about the software it runs. At the moment Microsoft's app store almost completely devoid of any fun and inspiring music apps.
Sure you can run something like Bitwig in Surface mode and pretend it's the same as apps that are optimized for touch - and only for that, not as an afterthought. It's not the same though.
Microsoft will never catch up to Apple unless they make their platform as more appealing than iOS to indy app developers.
If you can afford it, get a Surface AND an iPad. But let's not pretend a Surface can replace an iPad or vice versa.

I use the rear camera daily and use the front camera only rarely on my iPad. So much easier to frame and compose shots on the big screen. Lack of the 6s camera on the iPad Pro was a huge disappointment to me. But I may be weird, I carry my iPad everywhere with me.
seems the discussion about the surface being an iPad killer has been going on since the 1st surface pro. (Surface rt was dead in the water from launch). But I have to say I'm more tempted to get a surface 4 than an iPad pro not sure iPad pro does enough more than air2 to make it worthwhile.
