This was composed in Gadget and then into Auria, which I think is fantastic. I threw a few effects at it, added a vocal and there u have it. I worry that the vocal needs to be brought forward a few milliseconds to make it a bit more snappy on the beat. Also it's a touch empty at times, particularly before the end segment kicks in. I've been trying to make my tunes shorter and less self-indulgent. I'd welcome any comments. Cheers.
You've got a good voice, but I think you could promote it far more via the mix. For me it's not so much a matter of its millisecond placement, but more the effects/size etc.
If you checked out any of previous SOTMC postings you will have sussed that while we are a friendly and supportive enough crowd the underlying idea here is not simply mother-love ('Well done dear!"), but some constructive criticism if possible, which you should leave or take as you wish etc.
I put that paragraph there because my main crit of this song is the words. Especially in this declarative style the words are very clear and -for me- some of the no pain/no gain felt a little too cliched and moon/june-ish. BUT I can also be a pain in the arse about words, so just letting you know what one poncey over-literate bugger thinks
keep 'em coming dude! One a month if u can:)
It's not too busy & your song is free to breathe without gasping for air.
I spent last month reading as much as I could about Compression, and EQ. Comments last month were that the vocals needed to come up, and compression on them, and that it sounded muddy. I thought I could tell a difference between my original input song, and my new version. Now, I'm not sure. Less muddy? Vocals louder, and leveled a bit better?
Thoughts please, and soon to give feed back on all yers. Thanks!
Your voice sounds good, quite strong in some places. You kept the guitar more atmospheric, less obvious, which I think served that tribal feel well. Great work!
Musically it's not really my thing, but the technical skill you have is undeniable, very good singing - all 8 of you
I think the new gear certainly sounds like it's helping though, the vocal sounds really clean and well balanced, without that harshness from last month.
So for Christmas I think we would all feel let down if you didn't do "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".
I often make something which I believe in, but at the end of it (or at the place where I can take it no further) I'm left convinced that a real engineer/producer could take the stems/tracks and make a better, more integrated, final product out it than I've managed.
There is a lot going on in this number and tremendous energy, and you've done the hard work, you've written the song, made something where there was nothing. Perhaps, as and when, you might think about some further collaboration to polish it up and knit it together. My own answer (short term as it may be) is to put the thing in a metaphorical drawer for six months and then take another listen.
I am not going to be offended by anything anyone has to say. I am using this form, to learn, learn and learn. It's been fee nom in all so far. I NEED feeback on my songs! Basically, cuz I don't know what the hellavallouva I'm doing. The articles I read on Compression and EQ last month were very helpful. I've read things on them before, but I read one after the other, and made it stick. I wish I could get it right, like you said, in different words, it's not quite there yet, it's lacking the "professional touch".
Could you do me a favor, and listen to the first time I submitted the track in October I believe, and tell me if you think this is an improvement, or a step in the right direction? Thanks again!
Sweet vocals. Amazing harmonies, what more can I say except can I have one of your voices please.
i can't wait to hear more of your stuff dude
Ooohm oooh, and a mash-up medley of Julie Andrews favorites. Oh go-wan.....
Mister, you are a Man-Band. Like a boy-band but there's only one of you and you don't need those other guys stinking up the joint.
You're also a love-puppy, but I've heard that's what the girls like. I, for one, will not be letting Mrs. Goodyear listen to your output. I'd never hear the last of 'So why do YOU make that terrible existentialized racket when you could be making sweet love songs like that nice man?'
She has other qualities. Many of them.
Anyway, good technical stuff, good new mic put to very good use. Yes, you have a superior voice, and you know that already, but you are also putting it to use, especially in terms of the harmonies etc. Accomplished stuff.
It's true that your genre is not my box of socks, but I can still appreciate them. So, yeah, Lion King and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious are obvious silly/fun Xmas party specials BUT more seriously I would love to hear you take on something not completely other. Maybe even still acappella. Or not.
Lots of possibilities of course and it should be something that works for you, maybe we should have a poll
Off the top of my dizzy head I would suggest 'For the turnstiles' (Neil Young), 'Drug Buddy' (The Lemonheads), 'Keep me in your heart for a while' (Warren Zevon), 'Please Be With Me\Cowboy' (Duane Allman), 'Goddamn Lonely Love' (Drive-By Truckers).
All love songs, mostly, kinda.
Saturn's one of the pretty Auria plug-ins....
is my kind of pretty...
