  • I'm just about to shell out EUR 70 for a single plugin to add to my DAW because it's awesome AND because I need it (..and I'm not a pro...). Guess AUM will be just the same for me; awesome and necessary for my iOS music-workflow. And am sure the price will be fair too. Now I get back to working on new music. Everyone have a great day!

So I got MiMix instead and mixed inside AB, then record to the lightweight AudioShare. That actually works better, more stable, and I can do more before the resources are spent.

Snap! Anything that does the job more elegantly, has to be a good deal. This is what I am expecting and hoping for with AUM. I see it very much as a complimentary app to AudioBus, and a more capable successors to MiMix.

Incidentally, one good thing that came about following my disappointment with DAWs on IOS and one in particular, was that I decided to stop banging my head against the virtual wall. So now, I mostly do the creative bits on my iPad, and put them together using Logic Pro X on my Mac. All being well, AUM looks like it will integrate nicely into this process.

Came to the same conclusion myself. Hadn't been in Logic Pro in awhile and fired it up yesterday. Kept asking the same question, "Why the heck am I trying to make this little iPad do all the heavy lifting, when I already have a desktop DAW that's more than capable for my needs?"

Like laying out a print catalog or brochure. I wouldn't want to do that on an iPad (even though you can) but I like putting together all the creative bits on a mobile device, then compositing them later on the desktop with more horsepower and a larger screen. That's about the same analogy right? ;)

The built in file players change speed when you change tempo, so it stays in sync given that you have told it the original tempo of the file, or the number of beats in it if it's a loop. This also works when synced with Link.

    Bloody marvellous!

Another fun, and a bit hidden feature, of the file players is that you can enter a fractional beat duration for the loops! So you could set up several players with the same loop, one set to 4 beats, another on 4.25, etc. Or even 4.01 and have it slowly drift out of sync for those minimalism time phase effects :)

The Secret Steve Reich feature! Wouldn't setting to it to 4.25 bump the pitch too? Is beat duration controllable via MIDI?

  • Woohoo, Released today at 3:00 my time, on the west coast. Of course, not sure if I'm going to buy it yet or not. If the intro price is significantly less than the regular price, might pop for it now to take advantage. Otherwise, no rush, it's not super important in my workflow. I'm an Auria guy, I have AudioShare on the phone for recording, just be nice to try something different, and a slightly more robust environment to go to.

Ah, I got the timezone wrong. For some reason I thought it was New Zealand, but it's central european. Oh, well.

  • Sorry @rickwaugh that confusion was probably caused by me putting my NZ timezone hopes on the release time.

  • @j_liljedahl excited for this more and more .. but curious about performance. All your other apps are highly optimized and light on CPU - and I'm expecting AUM will be too. But can you give us any idea of what we can expect performance-wise? How much CPU does AUM take up just loading it up by itself ? What are your recommendations for minimum hardware? Ipad 3? 4?

  • are there going to be any instructional videos released, to help explain all the cool stuff in this app?

  • Are we there yet?

  • countdown: 15:30 hours left

I thought it was 00:00 here in Sweden :D

  • I don't get this release date thing. If apple approved it you have a button RELEASE NOW. Realease it already. I understand the need in iTunes connect to have a release date setting for instance when you have a multi national marketing campaign.

Yes, just like the Steve Reich pieces :) (but there the difference is much less than 0.25 beats)..

Is beat duration controllable via MIDI?

    Not at the moment, no.

AUM itself should take very little CPU, but it's hard to give a number.. Depends on what you are comparing to! At least the built in filters and file player etc are very light on the CPU. The main factor is of course which apps you're loading up.

In general, it works well on my iPad mini 2, but my iPad Pro can do a lot more :)

Also, note that iOS has a bug that's been fixed (or at least much improved) in iOS 9.3, that make the CPU speed down even if there are lots of audio work to do! So expect less crackles in all audio apps in 9.3.

Yes, I will try to do some basic tutorials soon, and hoping others will do some videos too!

It's because I wanted to have a specific date and time in the press releases sent out to blogs and other media. I'm as impatient as you! :)

    Here's a countdown timer: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/launch?iso=20160224T12&p0=239&msg=AUM+-+Audio+Mixer&font=sanserif&csz=1

  • Thanks, that means I can go to sleep now and get it around lunch-time tomorrow :)

Q: 'Dad, are we there yet?!!!'

    A: 'Here, take this timer....'

I can see a tantrum looming over the horizon

  • See you guys at 4am.

  • Ouch @syrupcore ....a moe reasonable 6am here.

  • Yeah, 6 here as well in Melbourne Beach. I wont make the grand opening, but I’ll be one of the first 100 in the store.
