I can't decide. Can someone help me figure out what I could do with this I can't do with samplr?
Not including any ready made loops or samples. Not interested in that.

Hey @Redo1, the main thing we aimed for was the speed of exploring key matched sounds through the browser, real-time stretching of the content (keeping the key the same), and the iPhone version support. Now with Link, you can also use Blocs Wave to Jam with your other apps and crucially record them too via Audiobus. These make Blocs Wave great for new ideas, and jamming.
These things should separate it from the mighty Samplr app which clearly has it's own unqiue merits. With Mix & Pad Exporting coming out next week that should really help people get their tunes out of the app too.

  • Thank you @Launchpadforios.
I will take another look at it.

@Launchpadforios hi, a pack style request... I was excited to see Cinematic Electronica, but it doesn't really evoke the kind of cinematic vibes I was hoping for. Maybe another cinematically-themed pack with more low key, sweeping, moody, strings, etc. kind of pack?

Or, maybe there's something on the Launchpad side that's closer to that description?

Basically, something more mood-soundtrack-centric and less groovy-dance-party.

  • Thanks guys! Yes, this does rock

  • @Launchpadforios We love new stuff and always have a hundred variations or suggestions for more new stuff, but more than anything I think most of us like to see a developer who's working/on it/moving forward. Well done.

  • Hey Launchpadforios- why do you only answer some of the questions raised here when you visit?
How do you name imported samples in order that you can see their name whilst playing- instead of them all being called 'imported'?

HI Rob, It seems that all samples work in this way, they show the category. You can change the category of a sample by selecting attributes (bottom left) when in EDIT. So it would seem that name is not currently possible, but at least you can have Vocal/Bass/Melodic etc... and not just Imported or Recorded.

Yeah. Little things that are big things. Naming is key.

  • Well link is awesome, but it would be nice to be able to browse recordings in The library also and have the random button pick samples from user imported loops.......

  • read through this thread from the beginning to see what is on the way.... that stuff is coming!

    Naming is labelling.

  • it never occurred to me to jam with myself over Link on my phone & ipad until I saw the Blocs/Link promo video. thank you for making the obvious apparent, just had a little session and am now putting all my Link'd apps back on my phone.

  • Are any of you guys getting drifting? I sliced up a sample in Audioshare using snap to grid and imported into Blocs and while it's in sync with the drum loops for a few minutes, it starts to drift which surprised me since I thought all samples are automatically time stretched?

I made sure the beats were set to 8 to ensure maybe a 7.99 might be the cause of the problem so not sure if I'm missing something obvious.

    Thanks in advance

  • Anyone running this on an ipad3? curious if i can use my ipad 3 as a dedicated recorder using this app

  • edited April 2016

ok very good app. just bought it and recording is very well done. hopefully it runs ok on the ipad3

    Hey Mireko_2
iPad 3 is the toughest challenge for us. I'm pretty sure it works, but it's by far the slowest system for a challenging audio time-stretch environment. We'd did a few things to make sure it works, but I fear it will struggle to cope in the near future.

I haven't noticed any drifting, however I have trimmed loops in AudioShare to 8 beats, then when importing into Wave using tempo length gets reported as 7.99 in Wave. In edit in Wave you can use the attributes button (bottom left) to set the beats back to 8.
When importing if you specify the number of beats instead of tempo this should not happen.

This has only happened a couple of times and is not a regular occurance, the import usually works fine. I took it to be loose fingers when trimming or a difference in rounding between AS and BW, as the audio for me was not affected I never thought anything of it until @gjcrus mentioned it.

Got to say, as yet I have had no problems with imports on timing. Have had a few refuse to play, but very very rare.

If you still have the file in audioshare that is going out of sync, could you possibly mail it to our support email address and we'll check it out? You can do this straight from audioshare I think. ([email protected])

Unfortunately it's a no go. Just tried on my ipad3. It's laggy and audio breaks up a lot.

On my iPad mini 2 it's fantastic though.

I'm just going to have to shift my setup so the mini 2 is the recorder and the 3 is the sound source. Not ideal as the 3 struggles with many synth apps too :(

I think it's time to decommission the 3, it's always been very bad with audio apps.

Also my focusrite interface started to crackle badly in blocs too. I will be ordering a lightning camera connection adapter to try it in my mini2 and fingers crossed it works. Really is an ideal lightweight recording setup if it does.

I've been wanting something like this for a long time and you guys have really nailed it. Love the way I can select the inputs on the focusrite.

My interface is the 18i6 fyi, in case there are know issues with blocs and that interface

I have done some more digging on the 7.99 beats thing, and can confirm it is nothing to do with Wave, it is in fact occuring when using quantised record in AUM. I haven't yet tried quantised record in ModStep or Wave to see if the same thing happens there. When using this feature in AUM the ending of recordings are not EXACTLY quantised to a beat, there seems to always some small variance of anything from 0.01 to 0.00001 of a beat. You can see this by making a quantised record in AUM, then open the recording in AS, select trim and snap to beat, set the tempo to your original tempo, the number of beats displayed will not necessarily be exact.

The variance is very small, but if you repeat copy a part over time without quantising the start to a beat each time then it would drift eventually.

As mentioned before, if when you import into wave you specifiy the number of beats and not the tempo, you will not get any drift or noticeable timing difference.

    @j_liljedahl can you confirm ?

  • Audioshare's tiny variances in beat-cutting were causing me problems with Group the Loop awhile back, it just seems to occassionally/randomly subtract .001 seconds or so.

  • Wtf! Just spent an hour jamming and made a track I was really happy with. Copied it to add some more variations and when I went back it's loads empty. All my tracks load empty. I went to my iPhone and recalled the track I made on my lunch break.. Empty.
    What am I doing wrong??!!
    Or is save completely broken

  • I just hit the little "+" to save tracks, it creates a name for the track and that's it. Is there another button elsewhere that you have to press??!

  • Oook I get it now. You have to create the track before starting then it saves to that slot. Dammit

  • I did the same @mireko_2. Sorry to hear you lost something good.

The UX on save is not intuitive--one of the few areas of this app that is not.

Just checking, was this issue in Blocs Wave or another app like AUM?

Hey @robsardine I didn't apologise yet for not answering your question from a previous page. My bad. It was a busy few days with our Link launch and exporting announcement next week, still that's no real excuse from me. Apologies. I see that someone has answered, but do let me know if you need more information. Matt
