Yes I found slip mode. But it's a faff.
1 set recording length to longer than I need
2 slip the recording to line up with a beat
3 move the start to line up with the beat in 2
4 move the end to the end of the recording.

Ok, Understood. Would Link do the trick for you here, or do you need anything else?

Link will be good but not for this ( no transport controls in link)

As I said before what would be good would be if you could start the recording by pressing the start button in Audiobus.

That way you can have the source and recording start at the same time.

Or IAA host sync, then you could have it follow the transport controls. Or make the recorder start recording on bar boundaries (like in AUM), then you could sync via Link, start playing first, then enable record and it would start recording exactly on the right beat.

I'm probably being dumb, but how does that help? If I have a loop more than one bar long and follow that procedure wouldn't recording start from the start of bar 2?

If using IAA host sync, and Blocs added a way to arm recording before playing, it could start recording when IAA host starts playing, from the start.

If using Link, and Blocs synced rec start to it, you would tap rec just before the first bar you want to record, so you could let the loop run once and then tap REC just before it wraps around.

    Hi Matt.
Sorry for this question, but I am one of the harder of thinking members of the forum.

We all love a minor chord, but having only MCs available is shite. I don't want to record a major chord sample into BW just so I can have one: I want it to be available to me as a choice, like it is in Garage Band. I'd like to be able to set up the dial with the chords I want before starting my project.

Now, it may indeed be the case that this is in fact possible and I haven't found out how to do it (not having located any manual anywhere).
If that is the case, I'm sorry and I await one of the many kind posters on here's gently shepherding me to the answers I need.

    Hi Mike

The transposing is working at a phrase level, that is it is transposing the whole loop as a single entity and not processing the individual notes or intervals between those notes. This means it cannot change a minor scale into a major one.
You can record a major phrase and it will stay major when transposed, so if you want all major or all minor chords in your tune you are OK, but the major ones just won't work well with the auto browse functions. just ignore the minor part and specify your root note. I have yet to find a workable way of mixing major and minor without recording the whole chord progression as a single phrase, but this does take away from the freedom of changing the key to find the progression in the first place as well as severly limiting the interoperability of the loops with others.

Give me major chords! I'm not asking for diminisheds or augmenteds or major 7ths or anything else: just major chords.

Because, truth be told, if a chord set up system were available, this app could become as loved as Novation.

I'd like to see they key wheel set out like the circle of fifths :) Matt has said that they wanted the initial release to be easy to pick up and go for users with a wide range of musical know how, and that was why they went with only minor first, as it was the most used in successful tunes. It doesn't matter how the key wheel is laid out, with the current transpose you would still need to record both Maj and Min versions of the loop to be able to use them. For that sort of transpose functionality you are in Autotune and Melodyne territory, and I'm not sure that even these will convert major to minor, particularly with chords (i.e polyphonic), they may stand a chance with monophonic phrases.

Thanks in advance for your response and, oh yeah, my name is Mike.

Matt, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for your response and congrats again on the app; for all my bellyaching I am absolutely loving it.

One other little thing. When changing the key note, you can't start or stop blocs. Also, some blocs are locking up when loaded initially until changed, only noticed this since updating to 9.3 but might be coincidence.

I noticed this yesterday evening too, it seems they are taking time to get transposed now where they weren't taking as long before. When you first switch the key you can see what looks like a progress bar on the clips that are transposing.

EDIT: Actually, now I think about it, 9.3 is not the only new thing, I was also using my own recorded loops for the first time too, and there were 2, one 32 bars long and another which was 48 bars long, so perhaps it is just that my iPad Mini 2 is struggling to do the processing quick enough for long loops :|

  • @Launchpadforios
Hi Matt, something else I struggled with last night, when recording in infinite mode, the playback always starts from the last position reached, and does not go back to the start until a loop point.
Imported loops however play from the beginning each time you stop and start playback. This was making it very difficult to try and slip the loop into the correct timing, Is this intended behaviour ?
I'll admit I didn't try the same thing with a fixed length recording though.

hahaha - Since last nights conversation, and me listening to OA on the way to work this morning I'm itching to get me guitar out and record some spacey reggae chops to go with my one drop drum patterns and dubby bass lines.
It is what I started using a computer for many years ago, but since doing it i've gotten so distracted with doing the synths and stuff that the guitar and bass are mainly sitting in their cases :|
I think that now with Wave and its keytagging and transposing I have what I need to be able to just record loops as I get the urge, then put them together later, rather than starting with drums, then doing bass, then keys and keep going round until I heard it to death and no longer want to put the guitars on.

Yep I should have some spare cash in a month or so. Had got swept up in the idea of another iPad, but after the new 9.7 Pro - I'm thinking of learning guitar to go with my iPad. £800 or so should get me a guitar and amp....plug in my iPad as well and instant jamming rig for parties :p

You can spend a lot less that £800 and get a good setup.
I got one of these nowadays which although relatively cheap is pretty good
