I am having a few issues
Some synth apps aren't working with modstep at all, for example ims20 and iProphet are loaded in IAA in modstep but nothing when for example addictive synth or iSEM are working
Also impc pro isn't recognized when in link inside modstep.
    Any ideas?

I just re-do test on them for you to make sure my talk are no nonsense.

ims20 and iprophet are working on Modstep IAA with Modstep internal keyboard. You need to know your midi setting

For impc pro, you should set up IAA inst, then go impc midi learn for each drum pad, working fine every time, it just you can not export your saved midi learn drum pad setup to iPad storage. itunes method is bad. I do not have computer. Troublesome if you reinstall Modstep again to set up everthing on impc pro again.

You need to provide signle midi channel on iprophet and tick iProphet virtual midi in inside ur iProphet

__OMG!!!!! The haq videos have finally made MS click with my brain!!!!
I loaded up Z3TA, Cubasis as an IAA instrument, and Navichord In a track and created some amazing sounding tracks!!!! Well at least for me o:)

I setted Navichord to send Chord midi data to Z3 via Modstep, and loaded up some free groove monkey midi drum tracks!!! Which for the life of me couldn't figure out how to do. But after the Haq videos MS has truly opened up like never before! It no longer looks like this wild untamable beast, but rather the most beautiful midi decoder ever!
Cubasis was just being my midi sound module playing back the midi sent by the midi file loaded in MS.
In Cubasis I set up a midi drum track with the new Sampler drum kits, which sound huge!!! For rock these are awesome!!!!!

Set the track to midi channel 10 and just follow Haq's midi instructions on the video and set up MS to send it out to Cubasis which now seems so easy compared to before!

Thanks MS, thanks Haq, I truly love this app and it has really made a huge difference!

  • So afraid of this beast.. These definitely help.

Ben, as Modstep is getting more sophisticated into future. There are more tools onboard for users. Please considering a way to design track play button (right hand side) more friendly for internal keyboard on track. If want to record the track scene and clip, you need to press that right hand side play circle, then touch the upper keyboard button, then you ready for recording notes on keyboard. So the timing is gone simply because this hidden behind feature. Plus there is no metronome count-in before that right hand side play button start.

Yes, I can wait the loop repeating back to do recording, but you know if that steps grid is more than one or four of 16 steps counts, you need lots time to wait the repeating process. So better way I think is when the internal keyboard on, you can also do the 'play circle' pressing on top-line of internal keyboard with count-in ready.

    Thank you

It's like genome midi sequencer but modern and actually useful
Still mixing in AUM as opposed to modstep, unless anyone knows how to set up sends in modstep ;)

  • +1 for optional metronome count-in on record. Even better if you can also configure the number of beats to count-in.

To add a bit to what @Kaikoo2 said...
iMS 20 works great, and you can sequence EACH TRACK on MS. There R 7!
If you create 7 tracks load or drag ims20 in first one and the other 6 will stay with midi icon.
Now enable all 7 outputs to ims20 and give each track a midi channel 1-7.
Use the melody editor and you can play ALL TRACKS PITCHED.
    And that's really amazing stuff...
I had to restart ims20 to get sound out first time.
Also DrumPerfect pro needs to have the IAA icon on left top showing or it works weird

Rename tracks. Finding your recordings will be much easier since they will be "track name-1"
You can find imported samples in "imported" folder

    THANKS. :) ....will do...

I wish there was a way to automatically load recordings RIGHT after being recorded into a "waiting" sampler on next available pad. Only after recording, otherwise they go in folders.
Or something a bit simpler to access/load JUST recorded loop.

  • Can someone please tell me how to import midi using an iPad only ? I have midi in my drop box and audioshare but how do you actually get it into modstep ?

  • edited April 2016

import from audioshare (AS import in the file browser) works for audio and midi

If you have your MIDI file in Audioshare, then in MS simply press the file icon top right, then from lower right select AS Import in the Midi Files section

  • Yeah, very simple things like loading up a midi clip from Audioshare was like so cryptic, but really not MS fault just that we are so used to having so little options gets you used to apps with less of them but having more space to put bigger icons. So MS is trying to utilize every centimeter of space wisely so one needs some guidance. That's why the Haq videos were so instrumental in helping me find the basics. I'm in no way there yet, but it really felt great to have finally some midi tracks rocking!

Thank you too for all your great contributions to the forum!

  • In one of these Modstep threads someone posted a trick where you trigger multiple instruments in b-16i. I can't find the post so I'm posting a brief description here in case anyone else is interested.

In short, you load a bunch of MIDI tracks in Modstep and load b-16i on to one of them. You then point MIDI OUT on all of the tracks that don't have b-16i loaded at the b-16i track. Set all the non-b16-i tracks to trigger different MIDI channels, and set up different instruments on different MIDI channels in b-16i. Voila, you're now sequencing multiple synth voices with only one instrument app loaded into Modstep. Very cpu friendly. I don't own the Roland soundcanvas app, but given how the vst version works, I'm guessing it's multi-timbral like this too.

Thanks to who ever posted that trick! Couldn't find the original post. :)

Thank you so much. was goin slightly insane trying to figure it out myself. not sure how i missed that.

  • Also if you notice the Load.mid button is not highlighted until you select a midi clip or file to load. Also the AS button is short for AudioShare.

Little things that drive you nuts but they save screen space.

  • Bug:
DFX app loads fine as an IAA fx ,but will not work with Modstep after loading a project. Currently DFX is a bit buggy, meaning it needs to be launched first and then add it to an fx chain (off topic : talked to the devs a while ago and they said they will fix it and add Link!).

I load DFX first ,it connects to Modstep when loading the project ,I can also switch to DFX from Modstep's icon , but Modstep track remains in loading mode, gives me a warning about DFX and cannot remove the fx. Project failed!

  • I also noticed that IAA apps still autostart even if you have it turned off (which I do because I had to delete earlier versions of Modstep when this caused problems).

  • Seeing the same as @rhcball .

I reported this one to the developer last night.

  • Also it's sort of hard to put anything 'professional' together using the internal sampler due to the volume levels while using the app not matching what's exported. I think somebody mentioned this earlier but just wondering if it's gonna be adjusted.

I got iMaschine 2 today and ended up ripping out some of the samples and putting them in Modstep's sample folder, another victory for Modstep...

So, if you had this thingie (ModStep) clean and tidy and untouched in a folder, and if you fully intended to devote a week at some point to getting on top of it (now some videos are out etc) might you be tempted to hold off until the next update (especially if you were, you know, maybe a confuseable guy, like, you know, my friend....)

Everybody got different 0 dB, so we should build 0 Bd standard.

Modulation King says so, to reduce worldwide noise levels!

No, it's totally useable and it'll take you awhile to get the hang of it, so better now than whenever. It's only an issue if you're, like, exporting a track that's going on the marketplace, where the levels need to be right (all that "mastering" nonsense). But I've been plunking away at it, sampling synths and exporting the wavs to Audioshare because Modstep doesn't allow file renaming, and then importing them back in (you can make folders for different breeds and species of samples!)...really, if you look at a) all the energy and attention surrounding modstep, and compare it to b) the obvious issues that need ironing out, then c) this must be a powerful and/or seductive app.

Thank you muchly Mister. I appreciate your logic and (relative) concision :) Off to the videos it is then I suppose...

  • Is there a way to disable auto-stopping a clip when triggering other clip on the same track?

  • @Korakios said:

No, it's like Launchpad, one playing per column. Infinite Looper can play every clip in a column at once if that's your thing.

  • Thanks, I enjoy both ,but I was wondering if I missed something since Modestep seems to surprise me (in a nice way) every time I use it by finding something new!
