Gang culture what kind of culture is that supposed to be?
i shoot you before you shoot me and then I am going to tell your ppl how oppressed I am and that it's the circumstances and not me pulling the trigger.

    Srsly?

you sound like you don't know that everyone who raps is not a gangster
you sound like you don't know that every gangster does not rap.
you sound like you don't know that all black people don't rap or gangbang
    you sound confused.

lol you sound like you've never heard of a non-black, non-rapping gangster!.... ffs

    I can't believe I am having this conversation ... :#
    this is beyond stupid ...

The topic of the thread is rap. Racism is a stark reality in the US, and hip hop delivers the most honest perspective on that subject. So any conversation about hip hop will necessarily involve a frank conversation about race and racism. What the hell are you lingering in a rap discussion / thread for, if the topic is distasteful to you?

    There's the virtual door.

we can keep the thread civil, I don't want them to leave, they sound like they don't know the definition of racism, rap music, or hiphop, or gang culture as in (never even heard of the mafia).... they sound confused AF..... and I can help.

this conversation is to crazy for my taste
And I am sick and tired from being told I am a racist when it's the other person thinking in skin colors. Fuck that shit. :#
I am not going to waste my time talking to a black racist. Good evening gentleman.

  • then don't elude to race and explain what you're saying, I've only asked you to talk about what you've said?

Im not saying anything that @lala isn't suggesting. It's pretty common sense (for someone who isn't a narcissist, or a masochist) that decorum forbids whining about a subject that is germane to the topic. Moderator OR guest; you don't derail an honest conversation about race. Civility is key. That's no doubt. But if it makes you uncomfortable, move on! Or should we tailor the discussion to skirt around whatever isn't warm and fuzzy enough for some folks?

Offering a counterpoint or dissent is one thing. Saying "Aww, jeez. Racism again?" begs the question; "why stay?". This isn't a party. It's not a room. It's a thread of text. If it bothers you, go!

    No offense at all.

  • now you're making offers that are hard to refuse :) , but alas we've got to keep it transparent.

    what this thread is about.

rap music has many genres, not unlike rock music, jazz, house, electronic, country, and gangster rap is just one of them. it's not that complex.

  • @icepulse, I'm just trying to foster an environment where one can feel comfortable to offer an honest counterpoint cause I'm really intrigued...

@Sebastian : you were right just close it. I was curious if it would lead to something. No it doesn't.

Right, but gangsta isn't, by any stretch, the only style to address racism. KRS-One isn't "gangster", nor is PE, KMD, Kweli, Jeru, Mos Def, etc....

  • C'mon man now you're trying to get the thread closed?.... Sebastian is a thinking man and actually that's how the thread got started about the machinations of the rap art form....
lets not be afraid to talk.

yeah but they weren't making that case

Close it? Why? Because you haven't found a sympathetic ear here? It's totally civil.

That's how folks ALWAYS deal with racism. "Close it down".

Indeed. Sounds just like a GOP tactic.

  • btw that post was a response to Lala's offer for tea

  • edited May 2016

No it's not like that, Sebastian talked to me before about closing this ish here, I said no don't do that, culture clashes are expected and we will sort it out. I was wrong, to bad about the wasted time.

It's not a clash. All anyone is saying is don't derail the conversation. Everyone else is handling it like adults.

  • I'm off. End of message.

  • I'm not aware of any clashes of culture here, What culture is it that I'm clashing with?

  • So, Gang Starr, eh?
