Korg 50% off sale.

I had planned on getting some of the Fabfilters, and now this happens. Looks like I have some decisions to make this weekend.

  • I swear the best sales always happen after I spend my money

  • Gadget and Module sales end tomorrow no?

  • Hmmm do I "need" module? I have apps with what I think are decent piano sounds.

But then if I don't get module do I "need" im1?

    Ugh

  • Questions for those kind enough to share their thoughts...Has Model 15 (which I adore) made iMS-20 obsolete, or does the 'ol Korg modular app still have something interesting to offer?
Also...same sort of question re iElectribe...worth getting if I already own Patterning/Elastic/DM1,2 etc?

    @Cliffy
I would say both are worth getting. They are still a couple of the best iOS music apps imo. IF you like their sounds and interfaces. (They can both be pretty unique). With iMS20 I like to zoom in(double tap) and use my midi keyboard. Works well. iElectrible is a lot of fun.

Without knowing what kind of music you make and/or aspire to make, think the answers you'll get (from strangers about whom you don't know similar things) aren't going to be very useful. Also, I need to learn to write better sentences.

  • I just got Gadget and Module on sale and it was the best thing I could do. Module sounds amazing it really does make my production sound alot better. Gadget well thats just fun and amazing opens a different world of synths and how I use them

    iM1 dropped to $14,99 from $29,99.

    http://audiob.us/get/931/KORG-iM1

    M1 Cards Pack $2,99
    T1 Cards Pack $2,99

Could anyone explain what include those cards? (the sentence "Library Cards 3 & 4 newly added" sound confussed to me). Sorry at advance if this is a silly question. :(

I'm tempted for iElectribe for iPhone as well...

M1 and T1 cards are well worth it. They give you the balance of original M1 factory sounds and the full T1 soundest. The Library cards are additional user storage space.

What is the difference between module and im1 ? Anyone ?

iM1 is a virtual knock-off of the Korg M1 Synth. It uses short samples for tone generators which then go through subtractive synthesis processing (filters, EGs, modulation, FX…) It’s a synthesizer with presets included, and in the stand-alone app you can also program patches just like the real hardware synth. Module is a sample player or sound module. It’s loaded with high quality sampled instruments you can trigger with the keyboard or MIDI. You don’t program your own sounds with it.

    iM1
Since it went on sale in 1988 the legendary M1 music workstation rapidly achieved record-breaking sales, becoming a mainstay of the music scene from the late 1980s and beyond. The appearance of the M1 helped musicians deliver professional-quality songs using just a single piece of equipment.
The design goal of the M1 was to deliver sound that would satisfy professional needs in two areas: performance and music production. This goal became the new direction for the PCM synthesizers and desktop music sound modules that subsequently appeared, and has been carried on to the present day with KORG’s flagship model the KRONOS.
High-capacity sampling and the increase in computer speed have enormously improved overall sound quality from a computer, but generating sound that delivers a real sense of presence demands technology and ideas beyond those that merely improve sound quality. The common element of electronic instruments that have left their name in history is that they had a unique sound that was difficult if not impossible to replicate. Sounds such as the “M1 Piano” and “M1 Organ” are instantly recognizable and have appeared on countless hit records over many years, and yet these are sounds that could only be produced by the M1. And that’s what you can now have on your iPad!

    Module
Ideal for performance and music production, KORG Module is a high-quality sound module app for iOS that contains a professional sound library. With just your iPad / iPhone and a MIDI keyboard such as the new microKEY, you can play studio-quality keyboard and grand piano sounds anywhere. You can also use the sounds of KORG Module for the KORG Gadget music production app.
Maintaining its position at the forefront of mobile music apps, KORG now offers you a new style of performance and production with KORG Module for iOS.

  • I can only hope this means a paid upgrade or sound pack for Ikaossilator is incoming. For the love of god.

  • Aww shit, small gadget update AND ids-10. One more to go please!

  • :D can so relate db!!!

  • Damn, I bought iM1 and both sound packs full price just a few days ago. Assumed it just wasn't going to be part of the sale, since it wasn't reduced with all the other stuff at first. Live and learn, I reckon. Pretty new to this iOS thing in general.

  • how come iTunes says sale until july 31st, but korgs fb page says sale ends on july 15th?

  • edited July 2016

Ok iMS20 looks pretty remarkable. I'm not sure how it's categorically different from the ids-10, though.
Do either of them connect directly to gadget?

  • Warning
The iMS20 is not easy to work straight away unless you have experience with the ms20 or a bit of synth knowledge. It can take some time to learn, but this part can be fun too.

  • I have all the Korg apps except Gorillaz.

    Where's that iMono/Poly? ;)

  • @Redo1's warning is absolutely fair, however, I have never really known what I'm doing with iMS20 but you'd have to dead-hand-pry etc.

Usable presets? And the sequencer and drum machine: just worse or unnecessary versions of what I already have? I just don't want anything that can't escape its genre. I listened to the iM1: to me, totally cheesy; I would never use anything I heard.

Indeed, but it's a great soft synth, very close to the sound of the real thing, with more power than the monophonic-only limitations suggests, and a very decent drum machine and sequencer. Check out iPolysixx as well

  • Oh come on ! Now Ipolysix, iMs20 and ids-10? Owners of these apps, what is your call? Satisfied?

  • @AlexB said:

I own the first and second there and hardly ever open them. They're cool apps but they are fixed to preset midi channels and listen to all incoming midi signals from anywhere. Useless to me in a multi-app midi setup.

I just answered with my impressions for both the iPolysixx and the iMS20: both great, and my latest album has songs with I used then extensively (check out on Spotify for my songs "Metrópole" and "Periferias" for examples).

An honest assessment (which is probably about the equivalent of a wild guess, as I don't know you) would be that you don't need it.

  • Grrrr I have bought all Korg products (im a fanboy) few weeks or days ago and now there is a sale ,am i damned ? Those products were never on sale since i got my iPad .May i hope to have a refund by Apple ?

  • Hi, is there a way to sync ims-20 sequencer to other apps , link?
I didn't see anything in the app description....

You can program your own patches in iM1 and ignore the presets. The additional "cards" give you more waveforms to use. It's capable of some great pads & strings.
