They actually took the headphone jack out. Are they fucking stupid?
Yeah, $234 billion stupid.
At least now I have one more reason not to be dissatisfied with my iPhone 5s.
Are they gonna do this for the ipad? How would I get my Audio Technica headphones to work? Oh, I know....BUY the adapter.......................
Hoping Mario isn't the highlight.
Rumor is adapter will be included.
Hoping for Mario on iPad Pro 12.9
Mario Lanza? Mario Andretti? Mario Lemieux?
Wow, they're actually doing it. I remember posting this in December 2015 and the reactions varied from "they'd never do that" to "of course they'd do that"
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/11121/rumor-iphone-7-may-ditch-headphone-jack/p1
Still, I'm having trouble wrapping my head around them actually doing it. Hasn't there been an explosion in premium headphone sales over the past 5-10 years? I understand that Bluetooth headphones are a thing, and may well be completely dominant over wired headsets soon, but is that 3 years from now? 5? 10?
What probably will happen is that Apple packs in a little dongle and we all just get used to it and planting a bunch of them all over the house.
What could happen is any number of nightmare scenarios for iOS music. The most immediate hurdle is charging the device. But even supposing there's some converter where you can charge and have an audio output at the same time, what other problems does that create? What if you have dirty power in your house or there's some type of grounding issue...does having the audio jack next to the power source on a dongle create noise issues? Most of us use the Lightning data jack as the audio input (not the headphone jack). But the 3.5mm jack is still the overwhelming way that we get audio OUT of the iPhone/iPad, and now that's being relegated to some legacy feature that you have to buy a converter for.
Again, this thread may look laughable by 2020. But one of the nice things about A/V equipment is the long-term compatibility of hardwired connections - it's the reason a quality set of headphones from the 90's can still be used today. There's something to be said for the fact that you plugged into an 80's Walkman the same way you plugged into a smartphone streaming Spotify...until now.
No headphone socket means I'll upgrade to the latest 6 instead. Tossers.
Yep, adapter to 3.5mm jack is included with each iPhone.
It's another way to sell a new round of mediocre, overpriced Beats by Dre headphones. Now with bluetooth!
This won't affect me one bit. All of my current devices have a headphone jack. When the time comes to upgrade I doubt it will be a huge issue. Nobody is taking your "jacked" devices away from you and leaving you stranded. So what's the big deal?
Oh the horror of it all...
Airpods look great
I could see the airpod technology being pretty awesome if you could have a mini device that has an audio out, where you could have a latency free, wireless output to speakers. Bluetooth has always been to laggy for me.
I wonder who owns Beats?
The issue I have, is that the Lightning connector on my current phone is knackered and worn out, and takes me ten minutes of wiggling leads to get it to connect.
That's just from charger use - so with headphones being plugged in and out the socket will wear out even quicker.
At least that's probably what they're hoping.
Have you tried cleaning it? They can get full of dust. I have no issues with my 5S although I have it in a case that covers the port.
But... 400 flying monkeys, people!
If you intend to use the iP7 to produce music/audio, buy an Apogee One as well: has a headphone jack, 48v phantom power, charges the ipad while you're using it and has pro grade AD/DA.
256G
256GB of storage on iPhone 7!
Wow!
Are you talking about the storage or the price gouge for the extra storage?
Wow! Would be if they just included a $@*!!$ SD card slot.
Well they featured music more than I expected... But not in the way I was hoping :-/
(Longest awkward closing song ever)!!
Oh nice.
So I guess the iPad upgrade will be in March?

OK, CAN ALL THE NEW AND UPDATED APPS DROP NOW, PLEASE.
(And $160 for the airpods? Don't they come with the iP7??)
