So I wonder if this adapter will sound better than the pretty lame ass sounding jack on my mini2? I wonder if I can use it on my mini2? This could be good...
Someone needs to disect the new adapter and see if it contains a DAC and also measure the output voltage
This is THE MOST ADVANCED iPhone ever, how dare you question the magical-ness?
I nominate Samu! Seconded!
my iphone 4s is working great. no complaints.

I would be surprised if it isn't just a cheap small DAC. It looks so small. I doubt it will improve sound compared to standard iOS device 3.5mm
Is there a pic somewhere?
Will still take some time before they are available here in Sweden
If the 'dongle' also works with the iPad it will be easy to compare the 'quality'...
The 3.5 jack discussion sparks similar agrevation that happened when aple introduced the first iPhone and stepped away from what was thought as 'core business'.(ie. calling Apple idiots and foolish dumbasses).
At least I hope we'll see a boom i high quality affordable ad/da devices.
We also still have no information on the latency of the new W1 chip it might even transfer uncompressed audio.
Personally I can't stand the 'Beats Sound' with loudness at 200% for zombies of a certain genre of music... Aha Aha Ahyeaaah etc.
I clean it all the time, it's the cleanest thing in the house. It's physically worn, so the connector is a bit loose in the socket.
Yah I am pretty much married to my Sennheissier monitors, even on the bus etc. Cool thing about this is there will be a boom of development on super small lightning ad/da devices. I really want to Link two ipads and record with my UCA 202 on one and output on the other with the smallest/bestest lightning adapter I can find.
But I bet your ass iPhone will recognise if you're trying to use a knockoff hardware
Let's talk about charging while using.
Come on all the yay sayers.
Thoughts? Solutions? Spagetti ?
CCK with external DAC the same way I do it with my iPad and iPhone today...
I'd be constantly fishing them out of the urinal after I scratch my ear while taking a leak.
That was my first thought!
Mine, too, but as an ipod
"Apple, however, suggests there are advantages to using its Airpods, which will cost $159 (£119)."
I can see who benefits most from that advantage.
Spagetti then. Mobility crippled.
For professional use or for everyday use?.
But what about the awesome new stereo speakers? Just use those while your phone is charging and you won't miss a beat! (Just kidding)
Haha. And can I just say it: they are fugly. The little white stick coming out of your ear, ew. It looks weird.
(But Apple marketing genius will convince us all otherwise, so no worries there)
And did they have other colors?
I wonder if this will affect some hardware that connect to the 3.5mm jack to send app changes to hardware such as some apps and pedals? Will it still work through the adaptor or not?
The 'hardware' that is controlled via 3.5" jack works on same principle as tape-recorders so as long as the app can output audio it will work. This goes for things like Volca Sample..
As far as I can see, you need at least a CCK3 (to enable charging) and some kind of USB device to connect your headphones (like a DAC). And a charger.
In stead of a charger an a pair of phones.
Or am I missing something ?
So really it's just a matter of updates in the software side?
Luckily i just bought iphone se a while back, so i dont need to get a new phone soon. I seriously hope that the new iphone without the headphone jack is a complete fail in terms of sales(which i kinda doubt as hc apple fans will buy anything from them and many apple buyers dont know what a headphone jack is and will just use the provided earbuds), so that they realize that the technology isnt there yet for this sort of phone without a headphone jack.. Luckily iphone se will be on the market for few more years(if mine breaks or gets old in few years when its time for a new phone), since i wouldnt want to move back to android..
I don't even think that is needed since apps send audio using 'Core Audio' and not directly to a specific hardware port.
So should be ok there then - cool
Sheesh! £919 for the iPhone 7 I was wanting to buy! Anyway apart from the disappearance of the headphone jack this looks good. I was glad that the stereo speakers are on each side of the phone in portrait mode because for a moment I thought Apple were going to stick just two speakers at the bottom of the phone where the headphone jack was. The zoom functions on the 7 Plus model has whetted my appetite and the Lightning audio could have better audio quality.
