  • Would it have killed them to put the kaoss pad in the gadget version?

  • Gadget has a freeze per track.

  • And this Odyssey has two things lacking from the Korg reissue hardware unit -- presets and effects!

Do you have a reissue unit? Will be interesting to hear where the differences exist, and just how different they are. I imagine it won't be long before there are some YouTube comparisons, but it'd be nice to hear some first-hand accounts. Been heavily debating purchasing a re-issue or a Minilogue.

  • How many instances can iPad Pro users get going at once?

A couple more beefy flexible Gadgets like this and I may want to upgrade the old Air1. I hope they make a sweet 64bit only power sampler!

  • Forgive these tired piggy eyes, but can anyone tell me if there's a hold button (not the one on the YX, but one to keep the played sound going)....can't seem to find it....

  • "Latch" at the arpeggiator setting switch.

yes, and it would kill them twice to put midi in and out in the ikaossilator app

Well we wouldn't want that now.

A thousand thank yous. But of course...

with no other apps open I just racked up 15 instances all holding a sustained chord, randomly selected presets, and various haphazard automations on each instance. Zero crackles or dropouts with a 512 buffer on the 12" pro. I gave up at 15 but now I guess I have to satisfy this curiosity and keep going to see how many oddyseys will sink the ship.

  • The Gadget version lacks the full app versions parameter sequencer control. This makes some of the presets very weak versions of their former selves.

Does it come with lessons to make you play like that :)

I'm really tempted by this.....I want to dive in and join the fun but there have been a couple of questions raised here that I would like to know definite answers to beforehand....who am I kidding I'll probably buy it anyway....but

Can the app be synced to either link or MIDI, for LFO's and/or apreggiator ?
Is there full CC control of all parameters ?

The lack of preset sharing between stand alone and Gadget is a bummer, but if it has full cc control you could get around that by recording CC into something like ModStep, and then playing them back to the Odyssei of your choice ? It would be very fiddly but would work, it is how we used to have to save patches on some of the old patchless gear, or when we'd filled up all the memory slots :)

Just whack the VCA gain up - that way nothing's modulating the VCA downwards, it just sits there and lets everything pass all the time.

By the way, could someone with this app clarify, does the VCA gain (which is now called 'drive gain') act as the old VCA gain did, or does it go through 100% pass through and into an overdrive situation, thus merging the VCA gain slider with the Karp's new drive switch beside it?

These are really helping shift me off the fence - that sounds really bloody good - very rich tones, particularly the bass.

Damn nice work , still trying to hold off ( trying to save up for Drum Session coming very soon) but you guys are making it almost impossible!

  • I'm holding off too, although I'll get it eventually. It was a good time to refinance the mortgage and start the process of replacing the roof, but a bad time app-wise...ha!

Cubasis full from Cubasis LE (via iRig Pro) and also fresh Auria Pro (despite separately having Auria) and Poison and Phasemaker and Blocs Wave and Addictive Pro and DRC and Phonem have all drained my hunting and gathering resources of late, so this'll have to wait. Oh well, I've still got a real Arp 2600 so I should be happy.

Incidentally, when the buzz started about Korg announcing new mysteries, I was imagining it'd be a smart move to (and smarter had they did it in the first place) make a version of the Karp Odyssey Desktop, that has 'feet' on the back to prop it up so it can also stand full face-on nearly vertical, and has panel patch jacks for everything, like a real 2600. That'd be achievable as of now.

Going further into the fantasy, it'd be great if it had a third VCO, but to be honest most people used it as an LFO anyway. Further, though, it'd be nice to have the inverters and multiple jacks. Further than that, fit a pair of oval speakers on the front but add the subwoofer from the Microkorg S. But super-duper further, it'd be a dream if it had the real 2600 ring modulator (which is a proper analogue balanced modulator, rather than the simple XOR gate scheme on the square/pulse waves only that the Odyssey had and also the MS20). Then the kit could be sold with a Korg Microkey Air 49 in the same colour scheme(s) as if it were a modern 2600. But, oh well…

  • Short demo (not mine)

Hah! Awesome. I sure hope this is a sign of where new Gadgets are headed.

    Sweet, in all senses.

@MonzoPro This is a thing worth de-fencerstrating yourself for. A little chapped that I can't seem to save presets in the standalone for use in The Gadg, but to be honest I had one of those two-hours-just-went-by way past my bedroom just feeding this into Cubasis and found it so, I dunno, thingable. And anyway, because Korg I guess.

Yah, no need to push the articulation on this one. He's practicaly feet up with a brew by the pool.

Yeah, good synth. Haven't tried it in Gadget yet but I can see this becoming a 'go to' synth as it does a lot of things very well, and aspire to use UI than say, Thor and Moog 15. Big, rich sounds.

Update - really comes into its own in Gadget - lush, and very usable synth.

  • Lexington , where the revolution began . Is Korg beginning some sort of revolution of their own? Makes me wonder just how much better Gadget can and will become.

  • For some reason I don't yet have the option to buy Lexington in the Gadget list?

Did you update Gadget? Also, you can just buy Odessi as a standalone app (using the App Store link from your favorite iOS site).
