For some reason I don't yet have the option to buy Lexington in the Gadget list?

What iOS version are you running?

  • There is no option to update Gadget at the App Store- so I think I must have the latest version. I wouldn't want it as standalone so I want to make sure it will arrive in Gadget before I buy it.

Lexington , where the revolution began . Is Korg beginning some sort of revolution of their own? Makes me wonder just how much better Gadget can and will become.

Yup, sure starting to get good for a 'toy'. I wonder if one day they rebrand it as 'Korg Studio'

Oddyssei requires a 64 bit iOS device, so I can't get the app for my ipad4, but works just fine in Gadget on mini2.

  • Someone tried it on the IPhone 6 ? Is it working smoothly?

To be clear guys it's "Odyssei" not "Odessi" important because "Odessi" is such a turd itself

  • I am using an Air 2

  • Requires 9.3 or later, check to be sure.

Calling it a 'toy' seems a bit hard to me man... it's not because it's called 'Gadget' that it is not a 'Studio' ;-)

PS : for me Gadget is probably the most complete mobile and touchscreen oriented music making app so far... Most other big apps such as Cubasis or Auria are wonderful, but they feel like adaptations of desktop DAW, never completly satisfying IMO...

Hehe yah I would never call it a toy personaly. Although I like toys, so why not?

  • So I've only had a chance to play with this on my iPhone and not the iPad, so unfortunately I can barely read the words of Lexington in Gadget.

Is there a switch to turn on the arp functionality in Gadget? When I bring up an arp preset in Gadget it only plays a single note, which is a bummer.

    Thanks!

  • Initial impressions are this is a very flexible synth. The unison and 8 note polyphony greatly expands the capabilities.
The reverb when set to Apollo changes to freeze when the time is at maximum
The UI in the standalone app on my iPad mini is too small to be usable with my ageing eyes. Not too bothered as I bought it to only use in Gadget. Set to full screen its fine and I prefer the controls on separate pages as its less cluttered and more focused that way.

  • I really love this synth. My favourite now so far. but why they keep the keyboard on the screen when there's another switchable keyboard? The presets which use the arp parameters obviously souds different in Gadget. Is there a compromise to don't bring the arp in Gadget? Is really fun to play this arp/sequencer

I guess because gadget has an arp under scales already? if Lexington had an arp you could arp the arp and who knows what portal to hell you may open.... ?

Yeah portal to Hell synths is what we want. People are making synths too safe these days!

  • Okay, clearly displaying my Gadget ignorance. I had no idea that there was an arp function on scale (just found it). Slowly learning all the coolness Gadget has to offer. Thanks for the tip!

  • Didn't know either. Btw, anyone knows how to customize the chord when you press on Scale button?

No customize, but it "snaps" to whatever scale you select (1-3-5-7 degres relative to the key you press)

  • That's what I thought..thanks

Yep. Working a treat on my iPhone6.

TBH I haven't had any time yet to try it out on my iPad Air2.

I'm massively favouring Gadget on my iPhone6 these days (due to how it fits with the when and where's of the pockets of time I get).

  • I'm really loving the presets on this. Have just saved about 50 of the total 200 (with IAPs) to my user folder.

I've previously felt that the presets that came with Gadget were quite poor, generally. But this has some really lovely and interesting ones. I guess having all the effects available helps.

[By the way, if something is an ARP - just arp it in Gadget (available from the Scale button). ]

The parameter automation available on this thing from within Gadget is quite something! Incredible really.

This feels like a proper grown up synth, finally all within Gadget. I'll have to take some time to read the manual properly - but it seems like there'd be a huge range of things you could do with this synth over and above what any of the other Gadget synths give you.

Also, the sound quality seems exceptionally good to me. Maybe it's good use of the effects in the patch design or something. But a lot of them just sound fantastic and rich to me.

Spot on- thanks- did the trick :)

  • Your welcome. Funny but I just finally got around to downloading this about a half hour ago. Wow and that's before using it in gadget even!

Nice idea about pulling the 'good' ones over to the user bank. I think your summation is on point. There's some genuinely interesting stuff going on here. Very happy with its addition, within and without Gadget.

I will not ask you what kind of toys you prefer lol ;-)

Ok, I understand now, you were just talking about the name... But it's a good name to me.

What I wonder is why Korg does not update some of their Gadgets once in a while... E.g. they could had the big keyboard with velocity on most Gadget this would be really sweet, and they could also improve Bilbao and/or Abu so that you could pitch shift by semi-tones your samples and maybe choose a number of bars so that they automatically timestretch and adapt to the beat of your track (this last would be f****g awesome lol)...

This turns Gadget into a serious contender. I was making a tune with it last night, and Lexington really beef's up the sound, and I found myself using it in nearly every channel.

The standalone is great too - I used to use a couple of the synths in Gadget as lead instruments in non-Gadget tracks (via Aum) just because they sound so rich. Now I can use iOddyssey or whatever the silly name of it is as it has a similar, big sound, without the need to boot up Gadget for my live Aum jams.

Saying that though I have a whole folder full of unfinished Gadget tracks, Lexington should inspire me to finish these off into proper things.

  • Worth watching. Guy from Orbital on the Arp:

  • There is a difference in using the ARP on the Odyssei and the ARP in Gadget, with the synth ARP you can specify the notes and number of steps that will play, but with gadget you cannot do this.
Luckily I have a Beatstep so can use that as an ARP so I can get the full ARP functionality within Gadget. :)
That beatstep has been gathering dust for a few months and now I have a use for it again :)

Yep. Or point StepPolyArp or Arpist or similar into Gadget.

True, that is a great vid for showing some of what this thing can do :)
