Korg has really killed the competition lately, in the cheap synth market as well as the iOS realm. While I appreciate their synths and use them quite a bit, I'm still waiting for the day when a Korg machine has some distinct feel or personality. They're all very good but all blank-faced. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe it's not.
I've been using the tempo in Gadget to adjust sequence playback speed.
Gadget is the best app on my iPad that I hardly ever use, and never finish a track on. Dunno why, I get halfway through and then....
I know the feeling. Recording live into a daw like Cubasis helps though.
With you there Monzo. I used to live and breathe Gadget but eventually the grind just got to me. So much repetitive work to make anything of substance. I still occasionally go back and have a tweak, and it sounds great, but the flow just isn't there for me anymore.
The bit that gets me is the effort involved in transposing a section into another key. You can select the notes in the timeline and shift them around, but it never quite works, and takes so long to get right that I give up.
Then there's the jamming thing - I'll get a really good sequence going, and then when I play it back I'll find the start point has ended up in the middle of the timeline.
Brilliant app to start jamming with, but I just find it madingly (?) frustrating to use for a finished thing.
I'd like another wavetable synth, as I like to the sound of wavetable morphing. Looking for something similar to the Synthtech E350 Morphing Terrarium. Having trouble deciding between iWavestation and Nave. Heavily leaning towards iWavestation for the simple fact that Korg keeps their apps current, where Waldorf seemingly does not (in hindsight purchasing Attack was probably a mistake, and so I never bought Nave). All insight is welcome!
I agree. It's great to begin with but to do anything slightly complex becomes very tedious. It's lacking basic arrangement functions but hopefully it'll grow further. Modstep is more advanced here and it's a younger app. But it is great at starting sketches.
Ok just downloaded.
It seems like iFunbox ( and the other one that shall remain Nameless and unloved) is the way to import and export .
No 'open in' appears in Audioshare or Dropbox :-((
Banks export as Xxx.iws and import as .iws or .syx ..and whatever Legacy format is..
Dear KORG ( I know you're watching )
Request # 1. SAVE TO and OPEN IN Audiobus and Dropbox
Request #2 EXPORT As Sysex
Nave is awesome and did not suffer any of the same ills of Attack. Had I bought Attack first I would have skipped Nave but so glad I got Nave.
Yeah Nave is a good synth, had no problems with that one.
The magic here is again:Tempo Rubato was the man behind Nave while Attack was developed/ported by someone else.
I havent been like "Wow" over a synth in awhile but I defintely got that vibe from iWavestation yesterday. I have the Legacy Collection on pc but the rework they've done on Wavestation made it much more graspable for me.
Sold my iProphet today so will pick up an iWavestation later this afternoon![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
The in-app purchase expansion pack includes the following cards:
Some great stuff in there, well worth it.
Yeah, if you like the synth I don't see how you don't pick up the pack. Surprised in a way they didn't break it out into smaller cash-money sections etc.
How many presets are in the vanilla version?
can most of the cool glitch sequencing be covered by abu dhabi? from listening the only thing i really care about is the sequencing and i could set up various single cylces in 16step loops and pass on the wavestation.
Thanks for the info!
550 ...50 per bank
The iap adds 7 banks plus extra waveforms.
There are many, many good, great and average free presets online that can be imported into user banks also.
With these it helps to have the whole story as some will use waveforms from the iap.
You could if you liked all the effort involved with that.
Or you could just keep hitting the random button in Milpitas.
Creating 'playable' and 'transposable' sequences using Abu Dhabi is a total nightmare.
The wave/sample-list on the iWavestation covers a lot and the IAPs expand the wave/sample-selection even further.
AbuDhabi has one advantage 'User Samples' and optional 'reverse play' on every step.
I suspect that once the new ( to many) and shiny gleaming facade of wave sequencing begins to tarnish that many will be pleasantly surprised by what a great synth engine lies beneath.
Especially with the addition of a resonant filter and touch screen editing facility.
The wave sequences are very cool and ,thankfully, much easier to edit compared to on the hardware,. They are , though, quite signature of this synth. Whether this is a good thing or not remains to be seen.
The Random button has certainly thrown the cat amongst the pigeons as far as new tricks from an old dog goes. Ahhh I do love a mixed metaphor!
Sequencing more static patches from external sequencers yields interesting results also.
These are just a few impressions.
my 2cents: after being letdown I couldn't get Oddessei (ipad 4 user) I was hoping iWavestation would help ease that pain. I was hesitant at first - but Matt Fletchers demo and a few others here helped ease my mind. I don't have Darwin or Module or Kamata because no user demos sold me on them - but so far with only a short hour with iWavestation I can say I don't think I have any regets purchasing.
Thought I'd post the results of my first hour with it here - i used 2 presets and a couple of randomized Milpitas, with a Bilboa for drums and Wolfsburg bass coming in after a few bars. I found Milpitas to be inspiring and capable of many different sounds and textures so far. haven't gone through more than 10-15% of presets and a few randomize button pushes. But I do like it alot so far! It's so nice to have another sound module in Gadget for me - cause I do love Gadget so much.
This is brilliant. Lovely sounds.
Does iWavestation have a multi mode similar to iM1 where you can assign different midi channels to individual parts? My setup has two midi keyboards and I would like to tigger different sounds using each controller.
Was just going to post that I got my cheap itunes cards for iWavestation, now am wondering if this is the best use of them. Just read a couple posts above and listened to @Halftone results AND see that it is only 58.6MB! so here we go....
Thanks for all the encouraging guys.
Could anyone explain the X mix and Y mix on the joystick in Milpitas to me?
What exactly and I mixing between here?
where did you get that 35 for 25 iTunes card from?
