Does iWavestation have a multi mode similar to iM1 where you can assign different midi channels to individual parts? My setup has two midi keyboards and I would like to tigger different sounds using each controller.

Yep. Up to 8 (maybe 16) parts.

You can play individual parts via keyboard splitting (which works really well) but you cant assign midi channels. Unless I've missed this setting..

Yeah I saw the keyboard splitting which m1 also has but did not see any place for midi channel assignment for specific parts for wavestation.

So if you're in a live performance situation with two different midi controllers, would Gadget be the only way to control wavestation sounds individually? Can Gadget even work for live performance? I know that it's more of a music production app.

I'm just debating on wavestation and if it will work into what I'm trying to do as a live player. I often have a need to play something like a ambient pad sound which is sustained on one controller and then something like a piano/organ/synth lead over top of it with the second controller.

Sorry for the misinformation! Thought I'd seen it in the manual.

Maybe Korg might add it if we asked nicely :)

it's almost impossible to do this accurately with finger. well i'm talking about changing the wave in the sequence using the vertical bar. is this what you're referring to as well?
this needs to be fixed somehow like thor's sensitivity solution.

In case people missed it, Samu gave a good tip on how to make small + 1/-1 adjustments to the waves by pressing the 'Wave' icon on the left (making it green): https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/291121/#Comment_291121

Ah ok thanks both of you. It is better.

  • Quick question if anyone's figured it:

When in Random mode and having selected 'loop' I see you can choose any number of patches next to each other or indeed all at once, but any way of selecting (say) the third, fourth and seventh at the same time?

Sounds like a power user question!

Not that I could find. Very wanting of the same.

yeah i ran into this problem as well, would be really powerful to be able to select individual and skip some. Would make the random mode a lot more useable

    Not worries man

  • A lot of the presets at least sound a little thin. Haven't really tried creating my own yet, so....

The in-app purchase expansion pack includes the following cards:

    • Piano
    • Drums & Percussion
    • Synth & Time Slice
    • Dance
    • Synth Design
    • Ethnic
    • Korg Legacy Collection

Some great stuff in there, well worth it.

Do the expansion packs give you any new waveforms ? or are they just more presets made with the same as included in the vanilla synth ?

    Thanks

Was just looking at the hardware wavestation manual and found that there's a wave sequence step copy function. I couldn't find the same in the app. Am I missing it? This would at least allow for taking steps 3, 4 and 7 and moving them to a new sequence track in a somewhat quick manner.

  • Just noticed a good one-liner within a review on the app store that sorta speaks to some of the "90s sound" discussion here:

Want that '90s sound? Go ahead and get an iM1! Want a '90s synthesizer? Then this is for you!

    From the manual:

In total, there are 550 performances, 385 patches, 352 wave
sequences, and 484 waves on the 11 internal cards (internal
memory). Including the contents that can be purchased
(CARD 1–6, KLC 1), there are a total of 1,050 performances,
735 patches, 672 wave sequences, and 780 waves that can be
    used.

250 new waveforms according to iap description.

Unfortunately no copy afaik, odd since it does have Insert/Duplicate/Delete.

  • I'm getting such app withdraw reading all this.....roll on the day I can afford apps again :)

  • So how do people think it sounds? We know it sounds like 90s etc. but how is the quality? Are you able to get full rich sound of it yet?
(I went back to model 15 after this and it was sort of a breath of fresh air. Admittedly I need more time with iW)

  • The presets are full sounding (in my view) and yes very much of their era ! I really like this synth after some initial misgivings, it seems to me a more useful M1, creating your own presets much easier in the standalone version than the M1
    Here's my retro track:

    Bing, bing, bing....

  • Anyone else on 1.0.1 feeling that their stability is enhanced?

    so recommended update from 9.3.5?
(Oh there is an iW update already. Thought it was a typo and was referring to iOS. Updating now. Thanks)

I'll give it a try and se if I can make it 'dive' :D
I had some issues with it crashing when adjusting the length and fades of wave-segments.

The SysEx import dialogue is still in Japanese...

  • Another 'thing' I've yet to figure out is how to 'clear' the USER 1-3 cards without having to re-install the app...

Interestingly enough when looking at the about menu in iWavestation it says 1.0.2 while the app that was updated says 1.0.1...

Korg is really in a rush to fix issues :)

  • I feel still kind of shocked you cannot choose the global midi channel or even more specifically the parts midi channel. Anyone knows if this will be fixed? For me it's ridiculous that something quite Basic was not implemented. And I know the workaround with Malpitas but honestly, the standalone version should have this feature !

  • Is there a latch or hold key/kaosspad button somewhere?

At least it has it's own Virtual Midi Port so when hosted in AUM it's easy enough to avoid port collisions.
Head over to the Korg Forums and help them out.

I started a Thread there with some observations.

Goodie, if you scan thru some of the other threads you'll see some other members from here sharing their ideas.
Korg does read what happens there but seldom responds in writing.

I'm not a huge fan of Twitter but I do follow @korgapp and the Gadget developers sometimes respond there...

I think you can make it sound like some of the stuff on Disclosure's wonderful Settle album.

Eg: Fizzy and slightly kitch pads, chords, synth hits and FX. Plus some reverby percussion sounds.

Producing a definite tip of the hat to the 90s - but made to sound modern with modern basslines, drums, production and songwriting.

The Analog / Moog sound is no longer just about the time those synths were first used. It's transcended that now. So perhaps we're seeing the same thing here?

I would like to know this as well.
