Vocals are from Zero-G (Time & Space CD) ''Voices from Africa''.

Clever idea to combine the African vocal samples with the dance music just not quite sure that it worked.

Thanks for listening. I do try & experiment with things. As Dell Boy said to Rodney(in Only Fools & Horses)............. "He Who Dares Rodney!"...... ;)

  • @trackedout Yet another track of yours that reeks of unadulterated originality. A song that wouldn't be out of place on an Eels album. Kinda Mark Everett in your vocal delivery and tone and musically, a light, airy feel to its soul.

"Hey doctor, I can't feel my face," is a cracking line and the satisfying way you say "agaiiiin" is "boy next door" in it's charm. WoooOOOH! ......why..t..F... can I hear all the words now? Oh no. You haven't been signed by some perfectionist producer already have you ;) Warned ya! Knowing enough about your off kilter but brilliant bass and drum riffs, your ending didn't surprise me and I liked the out of sync bit.....meant or not. Didn't miss the mental bass lines, good shout, because of the songs casual, wispy wonders.....it didn't need anything more. :)

@orchardman To me, this is your Poitin amongst all your other high alcohol content, top shelf slurp songs. The most professionally sung, played and produced song I've heard from you two down there in the Swansea swamps. Visited them myself back in the day, Cloud 9 in Bunnies was particularly wet ;)

The long ringing out strum on the second beat in the bars (sorry) is what adds a dynamic delight to the methodical and effective "hump" beats of the bass drum rhythm. I get a Louisiana, voodoo vibe with hints of herb and plant intoxication and some croc conflicts going on in the background. Deeply felt blues with lovely bendy guitar work. Far too technical for my air guitar worthy, six string squash racquet. Full on dirty sound and skill fully separated in the mix. Feels heavy but nice one because it sounds like you played with honey dripping from your fingers, coating the strings in love then hammering the guts out of em. Deep South.......I hear tinges of an American accent in some words and is really cute folded in with your wife's wonderful voice and Celtic folk mastery. :)

@Bluepunk thanks for the kind words good sir, we are rather pleased with the way this one turned out. The guitar playing is more luck than judgement, when I realised I couldn't play fast and gave up the idea of being a metal guitar hero I decided to play slow and let every note count instead. Sometimes it sounds as if I know what I'm doing. As for the Poitin, well I do occasionally enjoy a wee dram of the oirish so you may be onto something.

I'm not sure this the right forum to be sharing reminisces about that particular Swansea swamp, particularly with the good lady wife looking on ;)

I'm with you their brother. My missus is lurking.......somewhere! Let's just say that the crocs down there had a healthy appetite for human flesh. Still carry the scars ;)

  • @RickH At first I struggled to grab hold of something to tempt and draw me in. With age, I've learnt that it is a good thing as it forces me to delve deeper and challenge my senses. I couldn't work out whether it was the bass drum beats or the stabs that appear to be out of sync on occasions. Works well on looser tunes but I felt with this style, they may need tightening up. I will shut up.

So I had a good few listens to fall into it. The chirpy sounds with the wee delay echoing in my right lug are pleasant and gave some breathing space to the darker grunge/trudge (new genre alert) running throughout. Maybe whistling on top of the chirpy bits would add a bit of a sarcastic twist.....or are you saving your voice for a full on vox assault for your December offering. :)

A piece I created with Beathawk

Love the driving drone of this. Would like a plaintive vocal where the melody lives currently...

Not been around much recently (working on projects with Doug Woods and others ;) ) but recently bought the Korg Odyssei (used to have a Rev1 ARP Odyssey so enjoying reminiscing with that IAP!)
In this track Odyssei provides the ARP, Patterning the relentless beat and Animoog the synth lead (accompanied by some guitars via Bias FX and Tonebridge and Cubasis Amp Sim.

Really like the drive (ha!) of this piece. I am not a metal man but sometimes throw my brain back to nights at the Roundhouse watching UFO etc and remember being transformed by the pulsing noise of Mister Way and Mister Schenker. Not entirely convinced by the main lead sound here. Perfectly nice, but doesn't feel that it makes the most of the substantial platform provided for it, but that's just toast on my part probably. Good effort. Would like to watch the movie.

My entry for this month. All done in Gadget (as usual), 5 instances of Lexington and 1 of London. Mastered in Auria Pro using Fabfilter C2 and Q2.

Literally groovy. May have been because I spent all weekend listening to old soul records, but I wanted a sleepy brass section on this somewhere, but I like what you have here. Envy the AP mix also.

My new song, "Bandido". Enjoy the listening, and have a great week!

    Dimitri.

Very much in your accomplished canon here. Can't decide whether I want Sade or Frank Zappa singing on this one (now there's an odd couple...). I have the two most left-feet in the world and the rhythm of a brick wall, but was blasting this out happily while making some weird tacos earlier....

    Guitars and star wars :)

B52s date Timbuk3 under the specific supervision of Stanard Ridgway. Plus droids. Makes sense.

I leave a track not so developed but with the intention to show the capabilities of the new Korg app Odyssei. Different layers of Korg Odissey as only synth used ( presets from the basic app). Launchpad used for drum and voice loops. The sound is IMHO very 80's even not my style but I like the quality of the synth sound.

As indicated, perhaps less than the sum of its parts, but some of those parts are very nice. A real swaying feel, but without words I struggle to find shape.

Interesting collisions. I liked the very high keening voice particularly, almost scary. I can't say sitting in my living room this really made a lot of sense to me, but if I imagine it really thumping out in a dark packed club I would no doubt feel differently.

Thanks @JohnnyGoodyear for listening mate. When I make music ....... good, or bad(lol) I try to make it as if I was in a club. But mainly for my own tastes of relaxation....... Years ago, I use to DJ. When I see the people dancing to the tunes playing, & if looking like they're having a good time, it gave me a Happy Euphoria. Especially, if it was in a Pub with a difficult mob to entertain.

  • @trackedout I enjoyed that, funny track and definitely not run-of-the-mill stuff, you've got your own thing going on and I really like it.

  • @marliess another entry full of humour to follow up on your submission last month, the lyrics were very enjoyable and the track is a great way to brighten up a grey morning in south east England.

  • @theconnactic very strong late 70s vibe to this one, both in the guitars and the synths, and the intro is great but it does feel a little like it builds up without really taking the song as far as it could go. The tension when the instruments drop out just before the 1 minute mark is really cool with that synth, but it would be better if the instruments then came back in with a bit more oommph. Tricky to do without drums I guess. Also the track feels like it needs more intensity at the end, when the gunshots are firing.

The choice of sounds is great though, particularly the synths, and the concept is fun.

@AlterEgo_UK cool stuff, a dark and foreboding track, and that lead line is really something, love the synth patch and the playing and that slow snaking melody. And then the guitars come and coil themselves around it as the intensity builds up, by which time it feels as if the whole world is slowly catching fire.

Shame it sort of fizzles out at the end though, because in terms of atmosphere and intensity this was really quite spectacular. A very enjoyable listen.

  • Do you have to have entered a song here or is anyone welcome to comment on others tracks ?

I made this while sleeping on the trampoline under the full moon.

  • @marliess Yeehaw. Funky or what! A foot tapper indeed sir. You've gone and done it again, congrats. Your lyrics, as usual are beautifully crafted. Intelligent with splashes of humour and sarcasm. How you shoehorn them all in so perfectly is one of your song writing skills I adore. Little things again like how you say the "errrrrs" at the end of Darrrrrtht Vaderrrr and traderrrr. Comforting and wholesome.

Love the section from 1.33 and when the filth guitar kicks in at 1.46 (louder please ;) ) Cool vocoder effect at the end which changed the dynamics to a lighter shade, less urgent. With your tight, snappy snare and solid rhythm section thrusting your tune forward, it all adds up to demonstrate that you DO have The Knack :)

  • @studs1966 Any tune that has wobble board useage (1.14 and 2.50) is ok with me. You are an expert at selecting vocal samples. Matching obscure (to me) sounding samples that maybe shouldn't go but always do. The "wailing" one at 1.59 and 2.25 is spine tingling and is felt.

Uplifting dance to get lost to at 3am at a club in Ayia Napa. Would also work very well as a Sunday chill out tune to massage away the aching booze, substance and dance muscle shot, post party body parts that were fortunate enough to remain attached to the torso. Lots of scrumptious synth sounds flicking in and out, side to side reinforcing the psychedelic, trance pulse I feel. Good stuff Mister DJ. :)

Thank you for you nice comments. Infact, Ayia Napa is about 2 & a half hours away from where I live(Paphos)....... Cheers mate. ;)

  • @theconnactic 42 tracks! Was reading your comment on another thread. Fair play Dimitri. Is that an iPad Pro turbo Plus model you have over there? Pushing all things to the red line and beyond appeals. Consistent supreme guitar playing plus this dynamic electro twist you have added to your repertoire ensure there's always something different to enjoy and appreciate in your songs.

Mixed by a talented sound chef, can hear every little thing. Like the way you've plaited the gunshots into a rhythm over the main one, crunching down hard in between the music. The layers of synths on the outro would suit a still pic of the pile of skint, naked, dead punters that Dick Turpin had left behind after his pilfering sesh. Surreal.......haunting. :)

Pleasure. You must be in paradise. I served 2 years in Akrotiri with the mob and spent many a weekend in Paphos and Napa waking up on different parts of the beach, with different people. KEO beer hangovers......ouch. ;)

  • @AlterEgo_UK Good to see you back in the hot tub. Apt title sir. Heavy, solid, immovable, unstoppable. Sod the road junctions and roundabouts, I ain't stopping till I run out of diesel........or riffs. Is this one of those extra long low loaders that require a Police escort. Certainly carrying a tons of goodies on it's trailer. ;)

I see/hear a couple of pallets with "Prog" stamped on them but the majority of them have "chunk." Love that grime ingrained guitar at 2.30...Rock riff sensors heightened. Oh yeah.
What Cubasis amp sim did you use please? Glad you chose one of them because I think they get forgotten about and are decent. I mentioned prog but I feel some Massive Attack under vibe as well. Enjoyable slab of tarmac. Keep those big wheels rolling sir. :)

  • @Igneous1 You are the Clubs Gadget Guru Igneous. You and @BvsMV (Christmas tune maybe?) have it all sussed out. Good on ya for sticking to your gadget guns and I always look forward to experiencing a trip into your musical world. If I ever discover enough live, workable brain cells left to try Gadget out, you'll be top of the list to ask wtf do I do now please?

I counted 3 minutes and didn't detect one, not one, legendary obscure time change! (Bluepunk throws teddy in corner sulking). Did I miss one? What's noticeable to me is in the year I've been listen to your music, how the bass track/sound has darkened. Not sure if that's what I feel and not just hear though. You changed the perception of Gadget I had as well. Talented to maintain that unexplainable, cool Igneous vibe throughout all songs. Happiness pumps through it's veins. Spikey, medium grade sandpaper happiness if that makes senses. Not the sickly, sweet variety. Got me to my feet. Dancing to this brings joy. Thanks. :)

Nor mine either sir but the years have softened me up and I can now appreciate that era and groups like Durrun Durrun as Tony Blackburn called them. John Taylor had fantastic cheek bone structure though.... Twat! Reminds me of the incessant Euro pop spewing out from Hollands Cafeteria's back in the day. Thank god I was ruined off Super Lemon Haze at the time ;) Now is different.

Lots of straight down the middle bass drum beat tunes out this month. Did enjoy those double, triple, quad fills. Very nice. The voice loops work well and that high one puts a lovely melancholy swipe across your tune. Agreed, the calibre of the sounds are refined and on point. Mixed well showing off the Odissey. The effect at 2.49 is cool. Sounds like you had a real blast making this. Good on you. :)

Thanks! The effect you mention in 2.49 is the flanger from launchpad.
All synths were prerecorded from Korg Odyssey and put into Loopy and the whole song was recorded live directly the outputs to Audiobus and after to Cubasis. Transitions, effects , , fade ins and outs were also all recorded live, no post production.

  • Was collecting some coche (ish) merchandise from the docks a couple of months ago but unfortunately I ran into Maud over at Customs on my way out. Badly timed on my part because I thought she listened to "HM Revenue & Customs Weekly" on "Radio Bore the Shit out of me FM" at 2pm every Friday. Relax Maudy, I ain't no Howard Marks love. Began writing this song using the telling off I received as bait and then went a little further into a rant about stuff. Room 101 Part 1a.
