I'll have another look at SV, I confess to being a bit scared of it, possibly down to the UI - Audulus looks a bit friendlier.

I like the track you posted. Definitely the sort of thing I'd be looking to do with it. With all that's going on around me at the moment it'd be nice to be lost in space for a few hours.

Can't remember amongst all this sale-carnage, did you get ROTOR Mister

Nah, I've never used the other one, so didn't bother with this. Audulus and/or Effectrix are looking likely though...

Thought the other/first was v. disappointing (to me), but was somehow bullied into getting ROTOR and it has good things about it. Not required just because there's a sale on, but interesting to keep an eye on for mangling jam-it-out bastards such as your goodself...

Hmmm...ok chief I'll check out some vids - what are the main differences between the two?

I know, someone who really knows the both would brush off such a simple viewpoint, but it feels like the first was a warm up. ROTOR is easier to get amongst. Having said that, and having enjoyed a one-night stand with the object, I realize my dewy-eyed excitement was as much to do with at least getting the thing to put out some, and I have no doubt it could be a useful longer term lover, but, really? How many girls in how many ports does one man really need?

I bought the DRC unlock....great synth!

At $5.99, I was waiting for it to go on sale. Now it's $11.99. LOL

its gone up to $17.99 aussie dollars here..oh the joys of living in a banana republic...

  • Thinking of going for Audulus 3. Somebody talk me out of it. ;)

  • I, er, just bought - Sunvox. On Android. It's slightly more expensive over there, but nevertheless on sale at the moment. That makes the first thing I've ever actually spent actual money on, on Android. All my other android apps since I've ever been using android have been free ones only. This probably will be the last app I buy on Android, also.

  • Bought a bunch of stuff including the Model 15 ... wow. I was researching desktop synths too and this blew everything out of the water ... even Diva for getting close to the analog sound. I did get VirtualCZ for the desktop though.

  • So, I know Audulus 3 is a modular synth, but the description mentions sound processing too. Does that mean you can use it to build effects to process external sound as well? And does it load in effects slots?

I watched the two vids (not the silly promos) on YT and I'm still not tempted. It looks interesting, but when I load up Reactable I can see it being a five minute wonder (for me). If I didn't have that one I probably would, but it's too similar to the one I'm already not using. Not knocking the app, just don't think it's for me.

I'll watch some more Audulus vids later and then probably not get that one as well.

I'm enjoying my new iPhone SE though - saved sixty quid on that yesterday, and finally have a phone that can run music apps.

  • Good reminder. Feel like we could use a UPDATE YOUR REVIEWS sticky at the top of the forum to remind us all that new versions drop all existing reviews from the front page.

Probably annoy some but 'Review this app' would be a helpful addition to the home screen icons' default force touch menu items. If you're on device, the only semi-reasonable way to update a bunch of reviews is to

Or better yet, an App Store Reviews app that would show your reviews for each app you own. The main listing page would show if you'd reviewed it, if the review needed an update...

Yeah. Picked up a 6S a few weeks ago and am finally doing a little on the phone. Still prefer to lug the Pro around, but live in fear of breaking it of course.

As for ROTOR, I think that's probably the right decision. If I could go back I likely would however if you told me that some dark night I'll make something I might not otherwise I wouldn't be surprised. Pretty sure it's a desert island app; if you had nothing else to play with for a week or two you'd fall in love etc., but I'm actually going to a desert island in a few weeks and I fully intend to take the 763 apps that are on my iPad with me....

Just down the road from me and a regular weekend haunt in the 70's. Dr Feelgood posters everywhere, knife fights, severed limbs washed up on the beach from London hospital barges....ahhhh, those were the days...

  • @MonzoPro Just read all the comments from users of Audulus on the discchord page talking about it's launch last year. By the user comments, sounds more daunting that I thought it was.

Also, I didn't realize this is one of those apps that dev releases a first version of, then you have to re-buy for each version. Those who bought the first Audulus, evidently had to buy it all over again for V2, then all over once again for V3.

Makes me wonder if Audulus V3 is at the end of it's product cycle and it's on sale because they're going to release a completely new Audulus V4 version soonish?

For what it does it's worth it. Cheaper than the desktop.

Version 3 was released just this summer, so probably no.
    I'm still happy with V2.

I watched a couple of the intro videos and was pretty lost from the git-go. I think I want this one, but I'm concerned I simply don't have the math chops for it.

@skiphunt The bump from number two to number three was pretty large there's interim updates probably for a while. The quality of the audio improved hugely, and the code was rewritten from the bottom up.

There's usually talk on the forum well in advance of new versions.

It's fairly easy to get into now because they've loaded it with built modules so it's not necessary to start with first principles (the maths) to get stuff going

Modular stuff is really well represented in the sales right now zMors, Audulus and model 15 are all must haves

I just got Model 15 and have played with lesser modulars. What I'm attracted to Audulus for is that it seems it's also something you can create your own effects/processing of external audio... in addition to the synthesizer part. Is that so? Or, am I confused?

Could either Audulus OR zMors be used to create effects? Or, if you're not interested in more modular synthesizrs beyond Model 15, they're kinda pointless?

  • edited November 2016

@skiphunt yep they both are usable as IAA and Audiobus fx, and both ship with modules for this purpose, and Audulus community is an additional resource for fx modules along with every other kind you could conceive of. That's a huge feature of Audulus: the geniuses on that forum building stuff and sharing it gratis...

As an aside, like Model 15, Audulus is universal so if you're making music on the phone it's there for fx and synths...

  • Just got Phasemaker and iSymphonic plus Arpa sound set iap
    Real excited to delve in!

I settled on Audulus 3 and just tried your preset. Cool. :)

Audulus is definitely out of my league so far, but I did manage to build a primitive effect patch that works. Doesn't sound so swell but it works. And, before I've even read any instructions or done a tutorial. So, I'm hopeful.

I may be just about done with my Black Friday + cyber Monday app purchases.

    Here's where I landed

    Quincy
3X Launchpad Packs (still thinking about the sample importer, not sure I'd use it)
    Moog Model 15
    iVCS3
    Phasemaker
    Photophor
    Phawuo
    rrarrow
    76 Synthesizer
    Dedalus
    Limiter
    zMors EQ
    TC-Data
    iSEM
    Audulous

Contemplating one or two of these before I call it done:

    RF-1
    RP-1
    Dot Melody
    ARP Odyssei
    Enkl
    Paintstorm Studio

  • @skiphunt I would highly recommend Arp Odyssei, a really good sounding synth.

Ah, you jumped in before I did, well done. Still on the cards for me, I'll have to make a decision before the end of the day. Interested to hear how you get on.

  • I'm not sure if you guys are going to let me hang out here any more. I bought one app during this sales bonanza; Korvpressor. I've only bought about four apps in the past six months. I am truly apped-out. I have enough. No, more than enough. No, no, way more than enough. And I am tired of scrolling the endless list in AUM, Auria or (rarely these days) AudioBus. I'm going to do a huge purge soon and get rid of 75% of the apps. I have room for them on my iPad but I am tired of seeing them. Maybe, just maybe, I will get AB3 when/if it ever comes out, but that may be it for a long time.

  • edited November 2016

granted i literally have spent 15 minutes with it, but the phasemaker sounds "out of the box" seem pretty thin and dinky to me.

i like to be slightly scared or a little bit jarred by a synth when i am initially exploring a synth's presets (shoom, sunrizer, cyclops, animoog, mitosynth, etc) and i was a bit letdown by all the ravings about phasemaker. i haven't taken the time to delve yet, though. and i 10000 percent trust the opinions of this incredible forum.

i will never forget getting my mind absolutely blown the first time i hooked up animoog to my loudspeakers. i felt like alladin (sane) letting the genie out of the bottle.

    @skiphunt

You bought Quincy. I was looking at that. How random is it? I mean is it just a matter of hitting go or can you "set" things up? Is it a good random generator for synth apps?
OR, what is it best at?
